Michigan and Ohio State Collect Men’s Weekly Tennis Honors

Tomizawa (MICH) and Lilov (OSU) take home titles at Big Ten Individual Championships

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Michigan freshman Naoto Tomizawa has been named Player of the Week and Ohio State sophomore (redshirt freshman) Victor Lilov chosen Freshmen of the Week by the Big Ten Conference for matches played Oct. 29-Nov. 1.
 
Player of the Week
Naoto Tomizawa, Michigan
Fr. – Tokyo, Japan
  • Captured the singles championship at the Big Ten Individual Championships, held Oct. 29-Nov. 1 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
  • Playing on his home courts, advanced through the 64-player draw with a 4-0 record to reach the championship match, which was won in walk-over fashion
  • Became first Michigan player to win the singles title since Gavin Young in 2021
  • Dropped just one game in an opening round win over Indiana and rallied from a set down against Wisconsin in the Round of 16; won two matches by tiebreakers
  • Posted a doubles win with partner Evan Burnett, finishing with a 5-2 overall record at the championships
  • Last Wolverine chosen Big Ten Player of the Week: Bjorn Swenson (April 20, 2026)
Freshman of the Week
Victor Lilov, Ohio State 
So. (R-Fr.) – Miramar, Fla.
  • Amassed an 8-0 overall record at the Big Ten Individual Championships, contested at the Varsity Tennis Center on Michigan’s campus
  • Compiled a 4-0 record to reach the singles championship match before withdrawing
  • Teamed with Denis Petak to capture the doubles championship with a 4-0 mark, winning 24 of 36 games
  • Defeated Purdue’s Maj Premzl and Juan David Velasquez, 6-4, in the doubles final
  • After two tournaments, owns a 15-2 overall record (9-1 singles, 6-1 doubles) for the fall season
  • Earns Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors for the second-straight time
