<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Indiana Hoosiers have been selected as the favorite the 2025 Big Ten Conference title, according to a vote of the league’s coaches released on Tuesday.Ranked No. 11 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll, Indiana received six first place votes and four second place nods to take the top spot. Maryland finished second, while defending Big Ten Tournament champion Ohio State placed third. UCLA and Washington rounded out the top five.The conference also unveiled the 2025 Big Ten Players to Watch List on Tuesday, as selected by the league’s coaches. Included in the list are eight student-athletes who earned All-Big Ten recognition in 2024. <div class="payload-richtext">WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 6, 2025 – Today marks a historic milestone for college athletics in the United States. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California has granted final approval to a settlement in the House v. NCAA (“House”) litigation. This landmark settlement – agreed to by plaintiffs representing nearly 400,000 current and former student-athletes and the NCAA, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), Big Ten Conference, Big 12 Conference, Pac-12 Conference and Southeastern Conference (SEC) – will reshape the landscape of college sports, paving the way for a model that prioritizes fairness, stability, integrity and opportunity for student-athletes and institutions.Overseeing this model will be the newly established <a href="https://www.collegesportscommission.org/">
 College Sports Commission
 </a> – an independent body that will be responsible for implementing the settlement terms governing revenue sharing, student-athlete Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) deals and roster limits. The Commission will investigate any potential violations of these rules, make determinations regarding potential rules violations and penalties, provide notice and opportunity to be heard, participate in the arbitration process and ultimately administer penalties for violations of these rules. The Commission’s leadership team will be announced in the near future.Under the new system, student-athletes will have more opportunities to financially benefit during their participation in intercollegiate athletics than ever before. Institutions are now able to share revenue directly with student-athletes, in addition to providing existing benefits such as athletic scholarships, access to world-class training facilities, academic counseling, medical care, post-eligibility medical coverage, mental health resources, nutritional guidance and life skills development.Beginning July 1, 2025, each year, participating schools can distribute up to 22% of the average revenue among schools in the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC from media rights, ticket sales, and sponsorships – known as the revenue sharing cap. The cap is estimated at $20.5 million per school for the 2025-26 academic year, pending final confirmation. To ensure revenue sharing with student-athletes is appropriately managed and reported to the Court for compliance, athletics departments will use the new College Athlete Payment System (CAPS) platform developed by LBi Software.Student-athletes will also be able to continue receiving compensation from third-parties other than their institutions for the use of their NIL, so long as their NIL deals are made with the purpose of using their NIL for a valid business purpose and do not exceed a reasonable range of compensation. On behalf of the College Sports Commission, Deloitte* has built and will maintain a new technology platform called NIL Go in which student-athletes will be required to report their NIL deals to confirm they are in compliance with the rules. Deals will be evaluated based on:<ul class="list-bullet"><li

 >Payor association – The relationship between the payor and the student-athlete’s school.</li><li
 class=""
 style=""
 value="2"
 >Valid business purpose – Whether the payor is seeking the use of the student-athlete’s NIL for a valid business purpose, meaning to sell a good or service to the public for profit.</li><li

 style=""
 value="3"
 >Range of compensation – Whether the compensation paid to the student-athlete is commensurate with compensation paid to similarly situated individuals.</li></ul>Finally, for participating schools, NCAA scholarship limits have been removed and roster limits have been established for each sport, allowing for a significant increase in scholarship opportunities for student-athletes. Under this new model, schools will have the option to offer partial or full scholarships to every student-athlete on a team’s roster, as long as the total number of student-athletes stays within the sport’s specific roster limit. Efforts have also been made to ensure current and immediately incoming student-athletes are not adversely impacted by the establishing of roster limits. Coupling the academic goals set forth by leaders of the charter members of the conference with their steadfast commitment to athletics, the conference instituted the Big Ten Medal of Honor in 1915, the first award to demonstrate support for the educational emphasis placed on intercollegiate athletics. It is awarded annually by each member institution to one male and one female student of the graduating class who has attained the greatest proficiency in scholarship and athletics.In June of 2020 the conference launched the Big Ten Equality Coalition. This group, which features student-athletes, coaches, athletic directors, chancellors, presidents and other members, has a stated goal of seeking tangible ways to actively and constructively combat racism and hate around the world, while also empowering student-athletes to express their rights to free speech and peaceful protest. An important initiative resulting from conversations initiated by the coalition was the Big Ten Voter Registration Initiative.In recent years, several delegations of conference student-athletes and administrators have traveled to Selma and Montgomery, Alabama, for an immersive civil rights educational experience entitled: “Big Life Series: Selma to Montgomery.” The visit to one of the key centers of the civil rights movement was highlighted by marching across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma to learn more about the profound impact that young people had on the civil rights movement.Additionally, the Big Ten Conference is dedicated to making a lasting impact on the communities where its major events are held hosting sports clinics, renovating recreation centers, and giving elementary-aged children a behind-the-scenes experience with major Big Ten events. In all cases the conference focuses on creating meaningful improvements aimed at leaving each location better than it was found. Boltz is the highest draft pick in program history, besting Chris Mueller, who was picked at No. 6 by Orlando City SC in 2018.Boltz was one of four Big Ten players selected in the first round, joining Indiana defender Jansen Miller, Ohio State midfielder Michael Adedokun, and Michigan defender Jason Bucknor.This season’s 16 draft picks are the third most in Big Ten history. Ohio State, the tournament’s overall No. 1 seed, will join Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, UCLA, and Washington in the event, which is set to begin on Thursday, November 21.Fresh off winning both the Big Ten regular season and tournament championships, the Buckeyes earned a first-round bye and will begin their 12th NCAA Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 24 against the winner of a first-round match between Western Michigan and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. The Buckeyes have been ranked No. 1 in the United Soccer Coaches poll for the last three weeks and own the national’s best win percentage.Indiana will extend its NCAA record with a 38th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, as the Hoosiers earned a No. 14 national seed and a first-round bye. The Hoosiers will open their 49th NCAA Tournament appearance and host Princeton or Akron on Nov. 24 in the second round. Indiana has won eight national championships, the nation's most since the program's inception in 1973 and owns NCAA records with 104 tournament wins, 22 final fours, and 17 national championship game appearances.After missing the 2023 NCAA Tournament, Maryland will make its 41st appearance on Thursday, as they play host to two-time defending Northeast Conference champion Long Island University. (Nov. 8, 2024) – The Big Ten Conference announced the 2024 Men’s Soccer All-Big Ten teams and individual honors, according to a vote of the league’s 11 head coaches.Five schools were represented among the Big Ten’s six awards. Ohio State claimed a pair of awards, as senior Michael Adedokun and head coach Brian Maisonneuve were unanimous selections as Midfielder and Coach of the Year.  Indiana senior Tommy Mihalic was named Offensive Player of the Year, while Maryland senior William Kulvik claimed Defensive Player of the Year honors. Michigan State junior Zac Kelly secured the Goaltender of the Year, with Wisconsin’s Dean Boltz earning Freshman of the Year accolades.Adedokun was named the Big Ten’s top midfielder after leading the conference with 27 points and 11 assists, while his eight goals ranked second in the league. The Eruwa, Nigeria native also ranked in the nation’s top 20 in five statistical categories, including points per game and shots per game. This marks the third consecutive year a player from Ohio State has been named Big Ten Midfielder of the Year, as Laurence Wootton claimed the honor in 2022 and 2023.Himself a former Big Ten Player of the Year in 1993, Maisonneuve led the Buckeyes from unranked in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll to the No. 1 spot at the end of the regular season. Sporting a 12-1-3 overall record, including 7-1-2 in the Big Ten, Maisonneuve led Ohio State to its fifth conference title and the number one seed in the Big Ten Tournament. Maisonneuve joins four-time honoree John Bluem (1999, 2004, 2009, 2014) and Gary Avedikian (1992) as Buckeye head coaches named Big Ten Coach of the Year.Mihalic was right on Adedokun’s heals for the league lead in points, as the Indiana senior tallied 25 points and 10 goals, tied for the Big Ten lead. The Skokie, Ill. native recorded three braces on the season en route to becoming Indiana’s third Offensive Player of the Year, joining Victor Bezerra (2020) and Eriq Zavaleta (2012).Kulvik anchored the Terps defensive effort, missing just six minutes of action through Maryland’s 17 regular season matches. The senior from Oslo, Norway added two goals and two assists to the Terps’ coffers and becomes Maryland’s first Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year since Alex Crognale in 2016.Kelly was a stalwart between the Spartans’ pipe in 2024, boasting a league best six clean sheets and a .743 save percentage and 52 saves, both good for second in the conference.
