 </a>    ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference announced Monday that 1,926 students on varsity rosters have earned the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award. The list includes students from all 18 institutions, plus Johns Hopkins and Notre Dame and 41 sports who have recorded a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.7 or higher for the previous academic year.    The 2025-26 class of Distinguished Scholar Award Recipients includes 350 students who maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA during the previous academic year, represented in bold on the official list.    Big Ten Faculty Representatives established the Distinguished Scholar Award in 2008 to supplement the Academic All-Big Ten program. Distinguished Scholar Award recipients must have earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full time at the institution for the entire previous academic year (two semesters or three quarters) and earned a minimum GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year, excluding any summer grades. The Academic All-Big Ten threshold is a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for a student's academic career.     A complete list of the 2025-26 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award recipients can be found above.    </div>

Big Ten Recognizes 2025-26 Distinguished Scholar Award Recipients 

<div class="payload-richtext">PORTLAND, Ore. - As the sun set over the rolling hills of Cooper Mountain Vineyards on Saturday evening, “Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest” concluded its immersive educational experience where student-athletes from all 18 Big Ten institutions learned firsthand about the rich culture and history of the Pacific Northwest.   Over the course of less than 48 hours, over 175 student-athletes and administrators engaged in programming that included visits to Multnomah Falls, the Oregon Historical Society, the Grande Ronde Reservation, and Cooper Mountain Vineyards. The event brought together participants from all 18 Big Ten institutions, creating opportunities for learning, dialogue, and relationship-building among student-athletes from across the conference.    “Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest was a remarkable experience that allowed attendees to better understand and interact with the history, culture, landscape, and people that give the Pacific Northwest its distinct identity,” said Big Ten Chief Operating Officer Kerry Kenny. “The unique opportunity to connect student-athletes from across the country to an immersive experience outside of their traditional element is what distinguishes the Big Ten in preparing these young men and women for life after campus.”    At the Oregon Historical Society on Saturday morning, student-athletes learned about how Oregon became the state it is today, including the often-untold Black, Native American, and Japanese history that has shaped the state. Participants also toured the Yasui Family exhibit, learning about the challenges Japanese Americans faced during World War II and the advocacy efforts that helped advance civil rights in the decades that followed.    The quote on the back of the Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest T-shirt: “What is done to the least of us can be done to all of us” was from Presidential Medal of Freedom winner Minori Yasui.    “I found his bravery in speaking out about these issues incredible,” said Indiana women’s track & field sprinter Kristina Vincic. “Having a voice isn’t an easy thing and it takes time to build one. That’s something we can definitely tie in to our teams.”     After learning about Native American history at the Oregon Historical Society, participants experienced its living impact firsthand at the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Veterans Powwow. Student-athletes learned about the traditional longhouse, witnessed cultural traditions, and took part in the Grand Entry ceremony.  Often competitors on the field, student-athletes joined together to dance with members of the Grande Ronde Confederation and in honoring Veterans. For many student-athletes, it is the moment they said they will remember most about the trip.    “It was beautiful seeing the tradition unfold right before my eyes and getting involved with it,” said Penn State football student-athlete Armstrong Nnodim. “As athletes we get caught up in the competitive world, so to come here and bond with everyone from different backgrounds was amazing.”   Launched in 2022, the Big Life Series is part of the Big Ten’s commitment to providing educational and developmental opportunities beyond competition. Big Life Series Showcases the Spirit of the Pacific Northwest

<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. - As part of the “Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest”, the Big Ten will host over 150 student-athletes, coaches and administrators from all 18 Big Ten schools in Portland, Ore. from Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12. The program is designed to deepen participants’ understanding of the region’s rich history, culture and communities through an immersive educational experience.   Programming will begin Friday evening with a nature walk through Multnomah Falls to showcase the region’s deep ties to nature and the history of the Pacific Northwest landscape.    On Saturday, student-athletes will visit the Oregon Historical Society and have the chance to learn about the Japanese American West Coast experience and hear firsthand from a member of the Oregon Black Pioneers. Through discussions centered on resilience, community, and historical impact, participants will gain a deeper appreciation for the individuals and stories that have shaped the Pacific Northwest.    The group will then travel to the Grand Ronde Reservation for a Veterans Powwow, which will provide an opportunity to engage with living cultural traditions and better understand the history, values and contributions of the Native American communities across the region.   The evening will conclude with a dinner at Cooper Mountain Vineyard, where student-athletes will have a hands-on discussion about the agricultural history of the region and the grape-growing operation.   The Big Life series is an immersive educational experience started in 2022 that focuses on engaging, educating, and empowering Big Ten student-athletes, coaches, and administrators. With trips to Selma, Alabama; Mount Vernon, Iowa; and Portland, Oregon attendees learn about the historical and cultural significance of the region. Since its inception, over 500 students-athletes have participated in these programs. The Huskies (113.2 points) earned the title over runners-up UCLA (112), with Michigan (105.6), USC (104.4) and Ohio State (100.8) rounding out the final Top-5 of the year-long competition.Across the 2025-26 campaign, Washington excelled in numerous women’s sports including soccer, where they captured both the Big Ten regular-season and tournament titles, and rowing, at which they won six of seven grand finals to repeat as conference champions. The Huskies also piled up points with Top-4 finishes at the Big Ten cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field championship meets, headlined by sisters Amanda and Hana Moll who finished No. 1 and No. 2 in pole vault at the NCAA Championships this year.“Winning is in the DNA of Washington. Having success across the board is something that’s critically important to us,” said Washington Athletic Director Pat Chun. “We take an extraordinary amount of pride in winning this Allstate Women’s Championship award, and being the inaugural winners, especially because the Big Ten conference is so difficult across the board in all sports. This is a league that historically has prioritized women’s sports and is at the current peak of women’s college sports, and for us to be able to win this, it’s really hard to articulate but we take an immense amount of pride in winning this. Jones picked up her fourth honor, while Wright earned her third. Iowa’s Jen Llewellyn was named North Central Region Head Coach of the Year, the second head coach in program history to receive the award and first since 2016. Minnesota assistants Mya Hooten, Kiki Parenteau and Sam Scherwinski were recognized as the North Central Region Assistant Coaches of the Year.Rutgers head coach Anastasia Candia was tabbed as the Northeast Region Co-Head Coach of the Year, her second award in as many seasons. Eight Big Ten Programs Earn 2026 WCGA Regional Awards 

<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. – Minnesota and UCLA will represent the Big Ten Conference in Fort Worth, Texas, after earning spots in the semifinals of the 2026 NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships. The semifinals are slated for 4:30 p.m. ET and 9 p.m. ET on April 16 inside Dickies Arena and will air on ESPN2. The NCAA Finals on April 18 will be televised on ABC at 4 p.m. ET.The fourth-seeded Bruins finished atop the podium in the Corvallis Regional with a score of 197.725, securing back-to-back trips to the semifinals. No. 13 Minnesota was right behind them in second place with a 197.625 for its first appearance in the semifinals since 2022.The Big Ten has eight individual qualifiers competing in the NCAA Championships. Michigan’s Sophia Diaz and Carly Bauman will compete on uneven bars and balance beam, respectively, rotating Stanford. 2026 11 Big Ten Gymnasts Claim WCGA Regular Season All-America Recognition

<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference will send representatives from all 12 of its women’s gymnastics programs to the regional round of the 2026 NCAA Championships, with those regionals taking place April 1-5 at four campus sites around the country.For the second year in a row, the Big Ten had 11 institutions earn spots in the team competition, while gymnasts from Illinois, Nebraska, Rutgers and Washington will participate in individual events.Four Big Ten programs garnered national seeds with Big Ten Champion UCLA (4th), Michigan (10th), Michigan State (11th) and Minnesota (13th).Maryland, Ohio State and Rutgers will compete in the Lexington Regional. The Terrapins will open action in the first session of the second round on April 3 at 1 p.m. ET. The Buckeyes will participate in the evening session of the second round on April 3 at 7 p.m. ET. The Scarlet Knights will take part in a “play-in” dual meet against Central Michigan on April 2 at 2 p.m. ET to determine the final participant in the eight-team regional competition. With a win, Rutgers would advance to join Ohio State in the evening session on April 3.The Corvallis Regional has the potential to host a Big Ten quad meet in the evening session of the second round. Washington will challenge San Jose State in a “play-in” dual meet on April 2 at 5 p.m. ET for the opportunity to join UCLA, Minnesota and Iowa in the second round on April 3 at 10 p.m. ET.Nebraska and Michigan are headed to the Baton Rouge Regional. The Spartans will compete in the first session of the second round on April 2 at 4 p.m. ET, followed by the Nittany Lions in the second session at 10 p.m. ET.ESPN+ will stream live coverage from all four NCAA regional sites, with coverage of every gymnast and apparatus.The top two teams from each session in the second round will advance to the regional final. The top two teams from each regional final will receive an automatic berth to the national championship. In addition, the top all-around competitor and top event specialist on each event (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will advance to the national championship. Event specialist qualifiers will only compete in the events they qualified.ESPN2 will air the national semifinals on April 16, with sessions slated for 4:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. ET. Big Ten Ties Record with 11 Programs Headed to 2026 NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Regionals

<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced its 2026 women’s gymnastics individual awards as voted upon by the conference’s 12 head coaches on Monday.UCLA’s Jordan Chiles was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Year, while Michigan’s Carly Bauman was selected as the Big Ten Event Specialist of the Year. Minnesota’s Arianna Ostrum was voted Big Ten Freshman of the Year, and UCLA’s Janelle McDonald was tabbed as the Big Ten Coach of the Year.Chiles captured the all-around crown at the 2026 Big Ten Women’s Gymnastics Championships with a 39.825, the highest all-around score ever at the Big Ten Championships. It was her 11th all-around title of the season as she became only the second gymnast in Big Ten history to tally at least a 39.800 at the event. The senior won balance beam outright with a 9.950 and scored a 10 on floor exercise for the second year in a row to take home the victory. Chiles, a first team All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Championships Team honoree, set the single-season record for most Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors with 10 this year. She is the first Bruin in program history to win gymnast of the year. Bauman, who earned a spot on the all-championships team for her second-place finish on floor exercise (9.950), is the first Wolverine to be recognized as the Big Ten Event Specialist of the Year. The West Des Moines, Iowa, native was a first team All-Big Ten performer and was twice selected as the Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week this season.Ostrum is the fourth Minnesota gymnast to be honored as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and first since 2018. She was the Big Ten Co-Champion on vault with a score of 9.950 and picked up all-championships team laurels for her performances on vault, floor exercise and all-around. Ostrum was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week three times this year, was an All-Big Ten first teamer and claimed all-freshman team placement.For the second straight season, McDonald garnered coach of the year distinction after UCLA repeated as the Big Ten’s regular season and conference champions. The Bruins once again had a spotless 9-0 record in league meets and have not lost to a Big Ten opponent in non-conference or postseason action since joining the conference. UCLA was just the fifth team in Big Ten Championships history to surpass 198 with a team score of 198.100 and had three gymnasts win individual titles – Jordan Chiles (all-around, uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise), Riley Jenkins (vault) and Sydney Barros (uneven bars). Under McDonald’s guidance, four Bruins earned All-Big Ten honors in 2026 with Chiles, Ashlee Sullivan and Tiana Sumanasekera on the first team and Ciena Alipio on the second team. The team’s 198.100 is just the fifth score above 198 in the history of the Big Ten Championships. The Bruins also secured the 2026 regular-season crown for the second year in a row.Michigan State placed second at this year’s competition with a 197.475, while Minnesota earned a spot on the podium with 196.900 points. Michigan finished fourth behind a 196.800, followed by Iowa in fifth (196.700). Ohio State captured sixth place (196.250), Penn State checked in seventh (196.000), Rutgers earned eighth (195.700) and Washington had a ninth-place finish (195.475).
