ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference will be well represented when the U.S. men’s gymnastics team begins competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics, as four athletes with ties to the conference have been selected to the team.Michigan’s Paul Juda and Fred Richard will join former Nittany Lion Stephen Nedoroscik on the squad, while former Golden Gopher Shane Wiskus was named as a traveling replacement. NCAA and Autonomy Conferences Agree on Settlement

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Four Big Ten schools finished in the top six at the 2024 NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Championships, held at Ohio State’s Covelli Center.Michigan finished second for the second consecutive year, posting a score of 419.689, while Nebraska (412.427), Illinois (411.659), and Ohio State (399.122) finished four, fifth, and sixth respectively. Stanford (425.325) scored its fifth consecutive team title.Michigan graduate student Paul Juda and Illinois sophomore Tate Costa claimed individual titles.Juda won the floor exercise with a score of 14.800. This marks Judas third NCAA individual championship, joining his 2022 all-around and vault crowns.Costa claimed his first NCAA individual championship in the high bar with a score of 13.900. Costa becomes the first Illini to win the high bar since C.J. Maestas won gold in 2015.

Michigan 2nd at NCAA Championships; Big Ten Claims a Pair of Individual Titles

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten will be well represented when the NCAA Mane’s Gymnastics Championships get underway this weekend at Ohio State’s Covelli Center. All five Big Ten teams, Illinois, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, and Penn State, are among 12 teams selected to participate in the event.Big Ten champion Michigan leads the list of conference participants, sporting the third-highest qualifying score this season (413.038). The Big Ten also claims the next four spots on the qualifying list with Illinois (411.813), Nebraska (411.6), Ohio State (406.413), and Penn State (405.175).Three-time defending NCAA champion Stanford is the top qualifier with a score of 417.025, volowed by Oklahoma (415.5).The NCAA Championships will begin April 19 (1 and 7 p.m. ET) at the Covelli Center on the campus of Ohio State University with two pre-qualifying sessions consisting of six teams each. The top three finishing teams in each session will advance to the NCAA finals on April 20 (6 p.m. ET). CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Six individual event titles were handed out Saturday night to cap off the 2024 Big Ten Conference Men’s Gymnastics Championships at State Farm Center in Champaign, Ill. In addition, University of Michigan freshman Fred Richard was named the Gymnast of the Championships, while Wolverine head coach Yuan Xiao was chosen as the Big Ten Coach of the Year by a vote of the conference coaches.&nbsp;Earlier this week, Richard was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Year, while Illinois’ Brandon Dang was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year. It’s the second straight individual award for Richard after being named the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Year in 2023. Xiao was chosen as Big Ten Coach of the Year for the third consecutive season. It is also the ninth time a Wolverine coach has earned the honor, including each of the past five seasons, with Xiao’s predecessor at Michigan, Kurt Goder, as the recipient in 2020 and 2021.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dang took home the pommel horse title with a 14.800, winning the event for the seventh time this season following six regular season pommel horse titles.&nbsp;&nbsp;Illinois’ Connor McCool and Michigan’s Landen Blixt were named co-champions on floor with matching 14.500s. It was the second consecutive Big Ten floor title for McCool.&nbsp;&nbsp;Illinois rounded out its conference-leading four individual titles on Saturday with a first-place finish on rings and vault. Ashton Anaya placed first on rings with a 14.200, his third consecutive win on the event at the Big Ten Championships. The 114th Big Ten Men's Gymnastics Championships will be held April 5-6 at the State Farm Center on the University of Illinois campus&nbsp;in Champaign, Ill.&nbsp;The meet will be conducted over two days, with the team and all-around competitions held on Friday, April 5, and the individual event finals taking place on Saturday, April 6. Rotations on both days will begin at 8&nbsp;p.m. (ET). The 10 highest individual scores on each apparatus from the team competition shall advance to the individual event finals — in case of a tie, it shall be broken by the highest individual E (Executon) judging panel score on that apparatus during the team competition. If a tie still exists, the individual with the higher national ranking prior to the Big Ten Championships will advance. A printed copy of the national ranking shall be available at the head table. One alternate shall be prepared in case of injury.
Both days of competition will be televised live on the Big Ten Network and will also be available on the FOX Sports app.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The University of Michigan men’s gymnastics team earned the 2024 Big Ten Championship Friday night at State Farm Center in Champaign, Ill. The Wolverines claimed their 21st title overall and fourth straight.Michigan tallied 418.100 points to win the championship, while second-place Illinois earned 413.750 points and third-place Nebraska notched 407.350. Ohio State finished in fourth place with 406.550 points, followed by Penn State in fifth with 404.050 points.Michigan’s Fred Richard earned the Big Ten all-around title on Friday with 83.900 points, marking the fifth consecutive year a Wolverine won the all-around championship and second-straight for Richard. ROSEMONT, Ill.&nbsp; — The Big Ten Conference announced the 2024 men’s gymnastics individual award recipients on Tuesday. Michigan’s Fred Richard earned Big Ten Gymnast of the Year honors, while Illinois’ Brandon Dang was selected as Big Ten Freshman of the Year, following a vote by the conference’s head coaches.Richard is the 10th Michigan gymnast selected as Big Ten Gymnast of the Year and the second current Wolverine to earn the honor, as teammate Paul Juda received the accolade in 2021 and 2022. A native of San Jose, Calif., Dang was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week four times, while collecting three Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week honors.Dang has claimed six pommel horse titles this season, posting a season-high score of 15.200 at Michigan and owns a nation-leading 15.017 four-score average on the apparatus. The pommel horse specialist also won a silver medal at the 2024 Winter Cup, posting a score of 14.850.Also on Tuesday, the Big Ten recognized the five men’s gymnastics Sportsmanship Award honorees. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These student-athletes must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.The 2024 Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics Championships will be held Friday and Saturday at Illinois’ State Farm Center in Champaign, Ill.
