<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference on Thursday announced the dates and host sites for 2026-27 Olympic sports championships and tournaments. For the second consecutive year, all Big Ten Women’s Olympic Sports Championships & Tournaments will be presented by Allstate, the title sponsor of the Allstate Big Ten Women’s Championship Series. A complete schedule is below. The first postseason hardware of the fall will be handed out on October 30 in Madison, Wisconsin, at the 2026 Big Ten Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Championships on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course, which hosted the 2024 NCAA Championships and numerous NCAA Regionals. The following weekend, the Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament will take place at Ohio State’s Buckeye Varsity Field from Nov. 4-8, and the quarter- and semifinals of the Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament unfold at Energizer Park, home of Major League Soccer’s St. Louis CITY SC. The women’s tournament champion will be determined on Nov. 13 on the home field of the highest remaining seed, and the men’s soccer tournament title also will be handed out on Nov. 15 on the highest remaining seed’s campus. The winter championships begin in the pool with the Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships taking place Feb. 17-20 in Iowa City, and the Men’s Championships from Feb. 24-27 at Purdue’s Morgan J. Burke Aquatics Center. The 2027 Men’s & Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships return to the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion Feb. 25-27. For the first time, the Big Ten Wrestling Championships will be hosted at a neutral site, Columbus’ Nationwide Arena, home of the NHL’s Blue Jackets. The conference that has produced 19 consecutive NCAA team champions will gather in Ohio’s capital city March 6-7. The Big Ten Ice Hockey tournament title will be determined on March 19 at the home of the highest remaining seed in the tournament, and the winter season will conclude with Women’s Gymnastics March 19-20 at Ohio State, and Men’s Gymnastics April 2-3 at Penn State. Spring action gets underway April 22-25 with the Big Ten Women’s Tennis Tournament at Illinois’ Atkins Tennis Center. The Big Ten Women’s Golf Championships will be contested April 23-25 at Nemacolin Resort in Farmington, Pennsylvania. From April 28-May 2, the Women’s Lacrosse Tournament heads west for the first time at USC’s Rawlinson Stadium. That same weekend Men’s Tennis will determine a tournament champion at Michigan’s Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, and the Men’s Golf Championships will take place at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey. The Big Ten Men’s Lacrosse Tournament will be held May 6-8 at Penn State’s Panzer Stadium. Big Ten Softball will determine its tournament champion May 12-15 at Bowlin Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships head to TrackTown USA, Eugene, Oregon, at historic Hayward Field, while the Big Ten Rowing Championships return to the Indianapolis Rowing Center May 15-16. For the eighth consecutive year, the final Big Ten tournament title of the season will be handed out in Omaha, Nebraska, where the Big Ten Baseball Tournament will be played at Charles Schwab Field Omaha from May 25-30. Big Ten Announces Hosts For 2026-27 Olympic Sports Tournaments And Championships

<div class="payload-richtext">The Big Ten Conference left a mark on the national sports landscape this week, as current student-athletes and distinguished alumni dominated podiums across two major showcase events: the 2026 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Phoenix, Ariz., and the USA Diving National Championships in Morgantown, W.Va. From individual all-around crowns to synchronized diving victories, competitors representing Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State, and Indiana proved to be the standard-bearers in elite national competition. At the 2026 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships inside the Mortgage Matchup Center, Big Ten gymnastics stars spearheaded a headline-grabbing week. Leading the charge was former University of Michigan standout Frederick Richard, who captured his first career senior U.S. national all-around title after landing on the podium in 2023, 2024 and 2025. This year, Richard put on a masterclass over two days of competition, compiling a two-day total score of 170.015 to finish more than two points clear of the field, while also adding national gold in the floor exercise. With an elusive national title finally in hand, Richard immediately set his sights on building a legacy. "The number one trait of the most successful athletes is winning," <a href="https://www.olympics.com/en/news/2026-u-s-gymnastics-championships-frederick-richard-wins-his-first-u-s-all-around-title-in-phoenix" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">

"I want to keep winning." Joining Richard on the winner’s podium were fellow Big Ten standouts Asher Cohen (Nebraska), who earned the national title on still rings and was named the USA Gymnastics Sportsperson of the Year, and Kameron Nelson (Ohio State), who uncorked a championship-winning vault performance to claim national gold. Meanwhile, at the Mylan Park Aquatic Center in Morgantown, the USA Diving National Championships turned into a showcase for Indiana University’s powerhouse program. Program alumni and current student-athletes spearheaded a dominant run across the platform and springboard events, sweeping multiple national titles. IU alumnus Carson Tyler set the tone by capturing top honors in the men’s 10-meter platform competition, delivering a personal-best score in the final to secure individual gold. Fellow Indiana graduate Quinn Henninger joined forces with Jack Ryan (Stanford) to claim the men’s 3-meter synchronized title, while current Hoosier Ella Roselli partnered with Bayleigh Cranford (Longhorn Aquatics) to win top honors in the women’s 10-meter synchronized championship. The Hoosier momentum carried right through to the final day of competition as Indiana athletes continued to add to the medal tally. Tyler returned to the platform alongside Josh Hedberg to capture the men’s 10-meter synchronized national title with a total score of 844.86, marking the pair’s fourth synchronized championship together. Indiana’s depth was on full display in the same event as current Hoosier Max Weinrich secured a bronze medal alongside partner Dash Glasberg. To wrap up the conference’s stellar showing, former Minnesota, Michigan and Indiana star Kristen Hayden claimed gold in the women's synchronized 3-meter along partner Sophie Verzyl.  </div>

Distinguished Scholar Award recipients must have earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full time at the institution for the entire previous academic year (two semesters or three quarters) and earned a minimum GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year, excluding any summer grades. <div class="payload-richtext">PORTLAND, Ore. - As the sun set over the rolling hills of Cooper Mountain Vineyards on Saturday evening, “Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest” concluded its immersive educational experience where student-athletes from all 18 Big Ten institutions learned firsthand about the rich culture and history of the Pacific Northwest.   Over the course of less than 48 hours, over 175 student-athletes and administrators engaged in programming that included visits to Multnomah Falls, the Oregon Historical Society, the Grande Ronde Reservation, and Cooper Mountain Vineyards. The event brought together participants from all 18 Big Ten institutions, creating opportunities for learning, dialogue, and relationship-building among student-athletes from across the conference.    “Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest was a remarkable experience that allowed attendees to better understand and interact with the history, culture, landscape, and people that give the Pacific Northwest its distinct identity,” said Big Ten Chief Operating Officer Kerry Kenny. “The unique opportunity to connect student-athletes from across the country to an immersive experience outside of their traditional element is what distinguishes the Big Ten in preparing these young men and women for life after campus.”    At the Oregon Historical Society on Saturday morning, student-athletes learned about how Oregon became the state it is today, including the often-untold Black, Native American, and Japanese history that has shaped the state. Participants also toured the Yasui Family exhibit, learning about the challenges Japanese Americans faced during World War II and the advocacy efforts that helped advance civil rights in the decades that followed.    The quote on the back of the Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest T-shirt: “What is done to the least of us can be done to all of us” was from Presidential Medal of Freedom winner Minori Yasui.    “I found his bravery in speaking out about these issues incredible,” said Indiana women’s track & field sprinter Kristina Vincic. “Having a voice isn’t an easy thing and it takes time to build one. That’s something we can definitely tie in to our teams.”     After learning about Native American history at the Oregon Historical Society, participants experienced its living impact firsthand at the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Veterans Powwow. Student-athletes learned about the traditional longhouse, witnessed cultural traditions, and took part in the Grand Entry ceremony.  Often competitors on the field, student-athletes joined together to dance with members of the Grande Ronde Confederation and in honoring Veterans. For many student-athletes, it is the moment they said they will remember most about the trip.    “It was beautiful seeing the tradition unfold right before my eyes and getting involved with it,” said Penn State football student-athlete Armstrong Nnodim. “As athletes we get caught up in the competitive world, so to come here and bond with everyone from different backgrounds was amazing.”   Launched in 2022, the Big Life Series is part of the Big Ten’s commitment to providing educational and developmental opportunities beyond competition. <div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. - As part of the “Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest”, the Big Ten will host over 150 student-athletes, coaches and administrators from all 18 Big Ten schools in Portland, Ore. from Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12. The program is designed to deepen participants’ understanding of the region’s rich history, culture and communities through an immersive educational experience.   Programming will begin Friday evening with a nature walk through Multnomah Falls to showcase the region’s deep ties to nature and the history of the Pacific Northwest landscape.    On Saturday, student-athletes will visit the Oregon Historical Society and have the chance to learn about the Japanese American West Coast experience and hear firsthand from a member of the Oregon Black Pioneers. Through discussions centered on resilience, community, and historical impact, participants will gain a deeper appreciation for the individuals and stories that have shaped the Pacific Northwest.    The group will then travel to the Grand Ronde Reservation for a Veterans Powwow, which will provide an opportunity to engage with living cultural traditions and better understand the history, values and contributions of the Native American communities across the region.   The evening will conclude with a dinner at Cooper Mountain Vineyard, where student-athletes will have a hands-on discussion about the agricultural history of the region and the grape-growing operation.   The Big Life series is an immersive educational experience started in 2022 that focuses on engaging, educating, and empowering Big Ten student-athletes, coaches, and administrators. With trips to Selma, Alabama; Mount Vernon, Iowa; and Portland, Oregon attendees learn about the historical and cultural significance of the region. Since its inception, over 500 students-athletes have participated in these programs. Championship host Illinois closed the night in fifth with 322.224 points, followed by Ohio State on sixth place with 316.093.Big Ten athletes also scored three NCAA individual titles. Michigan’s Fred Richard claimed his third career all-around title, becoming the second Michigan gymnast to claim three all-around titles, joining Sam Mikulak (2011, 2013-14). The Wolverines have now won four all-around gold medals in the last five NCAA championships.Illinois’ Brandon Dang won the pommel horse, joining head coach Daniel Ribeiro as two of the 11 Illini to win NCAA titles on the horse. Penn State’s Shaun Smith claimed Freshman of the Year honors.Richard scored his fourth consecutive Gymnast of the Championship award after winning his fourth straight Big Ten All-Around title on Friday night.Xiao was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the fifth consecutive season after leading the Wolverines to their sixth straight team title on Friday. This also marks the fifth straight Gymnast of the Year honor and seventh consecutive Coach of the Year accolade for the Wolverines,Ohio State’s Chase Davenport-Mills claimed the floor exercise title with a score of 13.825, the second consecutive year a Buckeye has won the floor exercise after Jesse Pakele won in 2025.Illinois’s Brandon Dang won his third consecutive pommel horse gold, posting a score of 14.850, Dang is the fourth Illini to win three golds in the event, joining Harry Koehnemann (1939-41), Ben Newman (2003-05), and current Illinois head coach Daniel Ribeiro (2008, 2010-11).Nebraska’s Asher Cohen’s score of 14.125 was good for gold in the still rings. Michigan’s Fred Richard was named Gymnast of the Year, while Ohio State’s Parker Thackston was named Specialist of the Year. Penn State’s Shaun Smith was also named Freshman of the Year after a vote of the league’s head coaches.This is the second Gymnast of the Year honor for Richard, who also claimed the award in 2024, and the eighth time a Wolverine has won the award, including four honors in the last six years.Richard, a 2026 Nissen-Emery Award finalist presented to the nation’s most outstanding senior male collegiate gymnast, scored seven event wins on the season, including victories in the on the horizontal and parallel bars, pommel horse, and still rings and in the all-around. The Stoughton, Mass. native will enter this weekend’s Big Ten Championships ranked in the nation’s top 10 on the parallel bars (fourth), high bar (fifth), and still rings (ninth).Thackston becomes the second gymnast named Big Ten Specialist of the Year. The Nissen-Emery Award finalist was named Collegiate Gymnastics Association (CGA) Specialist of the Week twice this season and earned a Big Ten Specialist of the Week accolade.Thackston has the nation’s second-highest four-score average (14.433) on pommel horse.
