All 5 Big Ten Teams Selected for 2026 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships

ROSEMONT, Ill. – All five Big Ten men’s gymnastics teams have been selected to compete at the 2026 NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Championships, slated for April 17-18. Illinois, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, and Penn State are among 12 teams selected to participate in the event, hosted by the University of Illinois.

Big Ten champion Michigan leads the list of conference participants, sporting the second-highest qualifying score this season (324.250) The Big Ten also claims spots four through seven on the qualifying list with Nebraska (320.963), Ohio State (317.863), Penn State (315.375), and Illinois (315.075).

Oklahoma owns the top qualifying score (328.150), while Stanford’s score of 322.988 is good for third. California (314.913), Greenville (311.325), Navy (310.850), Army (309.963), and Springfield (308.500) complete the list of 12 team participants.

The field also includes individual event qualifiers from Air Force, Simpson, and Air Force.

The NCAA Championships will begin April 17 (2 and 8 p.m. ET) at the State Farm Center on the campus of the University of Illinois with two pre-qualifying sessions consisting of six teams each. The top three finishing teams in each session will advance to the NCAA finals on April 18 (7 p.m. ET).

In addition, the top three all-around competitors not on an advancing team, plus the top three individuals in each event not already advancing as a member of a team or in the all-around competition, will also take part in the April 19 finals.

Friday’s qualifiers will be broadcast on ESPN+, with Saturday’s finals slated to air on ESPN2.

Current Big Ten programs have won 40 NCAA men’s gymnastics national championships since the meet was first held in 1938, with the most recent Big Ten national champion being Michigan in 2025. Three former conference programs also won one NCAA title each as members of the Big Ten — Chicago (1938), Michigan State (1958) and Iowa (1969).

Last year, Michigan claimed its seventh NCAA title, its first since 2014, earning a slim 0.163-point margin over runner-up Stanford after Paul Juda’s final vault. Nebraska, Penn State, and Illinois also advanced to the finals, finishing fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.

Juda claimed gold on the parallel bars, while Ohio State’s Kameron Nelson won the vault title. Fellow Wolverine Fred Richard also scored his second All-Around gold medal.

Big Ten Announces 2026 Men's Gymnastics All-Freshman Team

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten honored four men’s gymnastics student-athletes on Wednesday, as the conference announced its 2026 Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics All-Freshman Team.

The honor recognizes freshmen for their performances at the Big Ten men’s gymnastics meet, held last weekend at the University of Nebraska.

Headlining the Big Ten All-Freshman Team is 2026 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Shaun Smith, from Penn State who finished fourth on the vault in Saturday’s event final.

Big Ten Crowns Men's Gymnastics Individual Champions

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Big Ten capped off its 2026 Men’s Gymnastics Championships on Saturday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Neb., as it handed out six individual event titles. In addition, University of Michigan junior Fred Richard was named the Gymnast of the Championships, while Wolverines head coach Yuan Xiao was chosen the Big Ten Coach of the Year by a vote of the conference coaches.

Earlier this week, Richard was also named Big Ten Men’s Gymnast of the Year for the second time, while Ohio State’s Parker Thackston was named Specialist of the Year. Penn State’s Shaun Smith claimed Freshman of the Year honors.

Richard scored his fourth consecutive Gymnast of the Championship award after winning his fourth straight Big Ten All-Around title on Friday night.

Xiao was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the fifth consecutive season after leading the Wolverines to their sixth straight team title on Friday. This also marks the fifth straight Gymnast of the Year honor and seventh consecutive Coach of the Year accolade for the Wolverines,

Ohio State’s Chase Davenport-Mills claimed the floor exercise title with a score of 13.825, the second consecutive year a Buckeye has won the floor exercise after Jesse Pakele won in 2025.

Illinois’s Brandon Dang won his third consecutive pommel horse gold, posting a score of 14.850, Dang is the fourth Illini to win three golds in the event, joining Harry Koehnemann (1939-41), Ben Newman (2003-05), and current Illinois head coach Daniel Ribeiro (2008, 2010-11).

Nebraska’s Asher Cohen’s score of 14.125 was good for gold in the still rings. Cohen’s gold is the second in a row for the Huskers after Yanni Chronopoulos win gold in 2025.

Chase Pappas from Michigan earned gold on the vault after posting a score of 14.150. This marks the first vault gold for the Wolverines since Anthony McCallum in 2016.

Nebraska’s Nathan York bested teammate Caden Clinton for post on the parallel bars with a score of 14.275. York is the second Husker to win gold in the event, joining Anton Stephenson in 2018.

Carson Eshleman’s 14.200 on the horizontal bar was good for Michigan gold. This is the fourth gold for Michigan in the last five years in the event, as Eshleman joined Paul Juda (2022), Richard (2023), and Evgeny Siminiuc (2025).

A total of 21 gymnasts earned All-Big Ten honors following their performances at this weekend’s conference meet, including six from Michigan, five from Nebraska, four from Ohio State, and three each from Illinois and Penn State.

Michigan Wins 2026 Big Ten Men's Gymnastics Title

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Michigan Wolverines claimed their sixth consecutive Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics championship on Friday inside Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Neb. Michigan scored 323.500 points to claim its 23rd title in program history.

Nebraska’s 320.700 points were good for second place, while Illinois finished third with 316.700 points. Ohio State placed fourth with 314.800 points, with Penn State placing fifth with 310.850 points.

Michigan’s Fred Richard claimed his fourth consecutive Big Ten all-round title with 81.300 points, becoming the Big Ten’s first four-time all-around champion since Minnesota’s John Roethlisberger won titles in 1990-93.

Nebraska’s Max Odden finished second with 78.000 points, while Penn State’s Kellen Ryan’s 76.700 points were good for third place. Ohio State’s David Ramirez (76.400), Illinois’ Garrett Schooley (76.250), and Penn State’s Landon Simpson (74.200) finished fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.

The final session of the 2026 Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics Championships will begin at 8 p.m. ET Saturday, and will include the individual event finals. Saturday’s competition will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network and is also available on the FOX Sports app.

Big Ten Announces 2026 Men’s Gymnastics Awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced its 2026 men’s gymnastics individual award winners on Wednesday. Michigan’s Fred Richard was named Gymnast of the Year, while Ohio State’s Parker Thackston was named Specialist of the Year. Penn State’s Shaun Smith was also named Freshman of the Year after a vote of the league’s head coaches.

This is the second Gymnast of the Year honor for Richard, who also claimed the award in 2024, and the eighth time a Wolverine has won the award, including four honors in the last six years.

Richard, a 2026 Nissen-Emery Award finalist presented to the nation’s most outstanding senior male collegiate gymnast, scored seven event wins on the season, including victories in the on the horizontal and parallel bars, pommel horse, and still rings and in the all-around. The Stoughton, Mass. native will enter this weekend’s Big Ten Championships ranked in the nation’s top 10 on the parallel bars (fourth), high bar (fifth), and still rings (ninth).

Thackston becomes the second gymnast named Big Ten Specialist of the Year. The Nissen-Emery Award finalist was named Collegiate Gymnastics Association (CGA) Specialist of the Week twice this season and earned a Big Ten Specialist of the Week accolade.

Thackston has the nation’s second-highest four-score average (14.433) on pommel horse. The senior from Robbinsville, N.J. is the only gymnast in the country to eclipse 15.000 on any event this season, doing so in claiming pommel horse titles against Michigan and Army/William & Mary.

Smith is the fifth Nittany Lion to claim Freshman of the Year honors and the first since Sam Zakutney in 2017. The Lexington, Ky. native counts a win on the vault in a dual meet against No. 12 Springfield among his 11 top five finishes. During his rookie campaign, Smith scored podium finishes in both the floor exercise and the vault.

Also on Wednesday, the Big Ten recognized the five men’s gymnastics Sportsmanship Award honorees. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These student-athletes must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.

The 2026 Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics Championships will be held Friday and Saturday at Nebraska’s Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Neb. The meet will begin at 8 p.m. (ET) both nights and will be televised live on the Big Ten Network, as well as streamed live on the FOX Sports app. Additional information will be available on the Championships web site at bigten.org/MGYMChampionship .

The Big Ten Coach of the Year and Gymnast of the Championships awards will be selected by the conference coaches during this weekend’s meet and will be announced, along with the all-conference and all-freshman teams, following the Championships.

Big Ten Collects 21 CGA Regular Season All-America Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The College Gymnastics Association (CGA) recently recognized 21 Big Ten men’s gymnasts, as the organization recently announced its list of 2026 Regular Season All-Americans.

The top eight performers on each of the six apparatus were selected as Regular Season All-Americans based on their four-score average from Road to Nationals in the respective event.

Michigan Claims 2026 Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics Title

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The No. 4 Michigan Wolverines clinched the 2026 Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics title on Sunday, topping No. 3 Nebraska 330.400-325.650 at Cliff Keen Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich.

With the victory, the Wolverines closed the regular season with a 4-0 record in conference meets. This is just the second time a Big Ten men’s gymnastics team has gone unbeaten in conference meets since 2019, as the 2020 Michigan squad went 6-0 in Big Ten meets.

The Wolverines have now won six Big Ten titles since the conference began awarding a regular season trophy in 2019, most in the Big Ten. Michigan also claimed titles in 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2025.

The Wolverines and the rest of the Big Ten men’s gymnastics teams will now turn their focus to the 2026 Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics Championships, scheduled for April 3-4 at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Neb. The championship meet will be televised live on Big Ten Network and may also be streamed via the web, smartphones, tablets and connected devices through the FOX Sports app.

Big Ten Recognizes Winter Academic All-Big Ten Honorees

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference recognized a total of 1,127 students on winter sports rosters who have been named to the Academic All-Big Ten Team Wednesday.

The list of honorees includes 83 men’s and 119 women’s basketball students, 98 men’s ice hockey students, 59 men’s and 146 women’s gymnastics students, 154 men’s and 251 women’s swim and dive students, and 217 wrestling students.

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be on a varsity team (as verified by being on the official squad list as of March 1 for fall sports), have been enrolled full time at the institution for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

Big Ten Receives 2026 NCAA/MOAA Opportunities & Impact Award

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana -- The Big Ten Conference has been named the Division I winner of the 2026 NCAA/MOAA Opportunities and Impact Award, the NCAA and Minority Opportunities Athletic Association — an affiliate of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics — announced Thursday.

The award recognizes and celebrates the initiatives, programs and efforts of athletics departments and conference offices in Divisions I, II and III that embrace environments of belonging and well-being and elevate the student-athlete voice in intercollegiate athletics communities. NCAA and MOAA representatives will present the awards June 7-10 in Las Vegas during the MOAA Symposium.

"We're proud to accept this honor on behalf of our 18 schools, whose support makes these initiatives possible," Big Ten Conference Commissioner Tony Petitti said.

Omar Brown, Big Ten senior vice president for community and impact, added, "This humbling recognition is a direct result of the leadership and alignment we have from Commissioner Petitti, throughout the conference office, and in collaboration with our campuses. Big Ten student-athletes always are aiming for excellence in competition, in the classroom and in their communities. We will continue to build on this foundation to create transformational opportunities for their development and deliver impact to the many locales we call home across the nation throughout the year."

The Big Ten Conference continues to engage, educate and empower its student-athletes, coaches, administrators and its broader community base with programs, initiatives and engagements that make a difference and encourage positive change. For four years, student-athletes from Big Ten schools have traveled to Alabama for an immersive journey that included learning about the Civil Rights Movement, visits to historic sites, community service projects and panel sessions with local leaders. The Big Ten has also added new elements to the transformative experience each year to deepen understanding and inspire civic responsibility.

Additionally, the conference creates leadership opportunities for its student-athletes. It partners with James Russell Lowell Elementary School in Indianapolis, connecting its 18 member schools with classrooms that include mentorship and encouragement via virtual meetings.

Another one of its many initiatives are structured conversations with administrators, coaches, athletes and employees to gather feedback and to inform future strategies. Examples include conducting student-athlete experience exit surveys and hosting standing committees, commissions and leadership councils to discuss progress, share feedback and assess strategic alignment. The conference also hosts numerous inclusive programs such as United as One, the B1G Fellows Program, the Student-Athlete Issues Commission, The Women's Volleyball Mentorship Program and the CBS Sports Ambassador Program & Sports Journalism Initiative. The conference also promotes several awards programs, which includes the Jackie Robinson Community & Impact Award to recognize student-athletes who demonstrate leadership, service and volunteerism.

Along with the Big Ten, Saint Michael's College athletics department was recognized in Division II, and Occidental College's athletics department was the Division III honoree.

"This honor is an acknowledgment of NCAA member schools and conference offices that intentionally create spaces and opportunities for all student-athletes, coaches and administrators to feel seen, heard and valued," said Felicia Martin, NCAA senior vice president of inclusion, education and community engagement. Discover, Big Ten Present Custom Jackets To Jackie Robinson Award Honorees

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Presenting sponsor Discover will deliver custom letterwinner jackets to all 36 institutional winners of the 2025-26 Jackie Robinson Community & Impact Award, the Big Ten announced Wednesday. Each university’s male and female honoree will receive a customized, one-of-one gift featuring unique school elements and visuals.

The first two custom jackets were presented in December at the Discover Big Ten Football Championship Game to 2025 national winners Dillon Fontus, from Maryland football, and Iowa wrestler Nanea Estrella.

Both of last year’s winners, and Sonya Pankey Robinson (Jackie Robinson’s granddaughter), attended the game as guests of Discover, seeing Indiana claim the title at Lucas Oil Stadium on their way to a perfect 16-0 campaign and CFP National Championship. The 2026 national winners will be announced later this spring from the cohort of 36 campus recipients.

In November, the Big Ten Conference announced the 36 student-athletes selected as institutional winners of the 2025-26 Jackie Robinson Community & Impact Award presented by Discover. Now in its second year, the honor was created to recognize Big Ten student-athletes who strive to have a positive impact within their community in addition to excellence in competition.

Jackie Robinson was a standout student-athlete at UCLA, where he was the school’s first four-sport letter winner, excelling in football, basketball, track and field, and baseball. Beyond his athletic prowess, he continues to be recognized and honored for his contributions off the field: integrating Major League Baseball and his lifelong commitment to social justice. He is the embodiment of the Big Ten's mission to develop strong student leaders, and this program honors his legacy and core values of courage, determination, teamwork, persistence, integrity, citizenship, justice, commitment, and excellence. As Jackie famously said, “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.”

The new ad began airing during Big Ten basketball games and other winter sports in January. Students and alumni take center stage, sharing with viewers what their lives look like and what they have been able to accomplish thanks to their Big Ten university education. Seen on campuses and in communities nationwide, their experiences are living proof of the world-class educational opportunities they received, from learning alongside Nobel Prize–winning faculty to participating in internships and undergraduate research. The spot also highlights the universities’ broader impact through innovation, job creation and service.

Together, the 18 members of the Big Ten Conference are educating more than 810,000 students, preparing them for successful lives and careers. The Big Ten’s collective graduation rate is more than 20 points above the national average and the universities have more than 9.2 million living alumni.

The first ad in the “We Are Here” series began airing last fall and has generated more than 250 million impressions across Big Ten broadcasts to date, including during the College Football Playoff National Championship won by Indiana University. Big Ten Network Presents 2026 Big Ten Winter Championships Coverage

The Big Ten Network today announced its 2026 Big Ten Winter Championships schedule, including men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s indoor track and field and men’s and women’s gymnastics. BTN will also broadcast the wrestling championships and men’s ice hockey tournament semifinals and championship in March, with full broadcast details announced at a later date.

Coverage kicks off Feb. 18-21, with the Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships presented by Allstate. All four days of coverage from Minnesota will be streamed exclusively on B1G+ , beginning at 5 p.m. ET on Feb. 18. From Feb. 25-28, the Big Ten Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships from Wisconsin will also stream exclusively on B1G+ , with the opening night coverage beginning at 5 p.m. ET. Brendan Gulick and Margaux Farrell Hyde will be on the call across both championship events, while Manny Pollard will cover women’s diving and Brandis Heffner will anchor the men’s diving events.

Winter championship coverage continues Feb. 26-28, with the Big Ten Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships. Both the men’s and women’s events will take place at the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion in Indianapolis. Coverage of the three-day event will stream on B1G+ and RunnerSpace+ .

Beginning Friday, March 20, Big Ten Network will televise the first session of the Big Ten Women’s Gymnastics Championships presented by Allstate at 7 p.m. ET. The second session will be televised Saturday, March 21 at 1 p.m. ET, followed by the third and final session at 6 p.m. ET. Dean Linke and Olivia Karas will anchor all three sessions across the two-day championship event from Illinois.

The Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics Championships kicks off Friday, April 3, from Nebraska with live coverage on BTN at 8 p.m. ET, while session two will be televised Saturday, April 4, at 8 p.m. ET. Linke and Brandon Burns will provide on-air coverage of both sessions of the championships on BTN. Throughout the men’s and women’s championships, Big Ten gymnastics coverage can be found via the @B1GGymnastics accounts on X , Instagram and Bluesky .

"The Big Ten Conference appreciates the NCAA’s effort to eliminate these wagers and will continue to assist student-athletes as they deal with the challenges that result from proposition bets in college sports.”

President Baker recently sent letters to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and to State Gambling Commissions calling for amended state laws and regulations to better-protect student-athletes.

The letter from the Big Ten Conference SAIC outlines the growing concerns around the rise of individual performance prop wagering in college sports, including:

Increased harassment student-athletes experience because of wagers on individual-performance proposition wagers
Negative impact individual-performance proposition betting has on student-athletes’ mental health
Accusations of impropriety, even when unfounded, damage the student-athlete experience
Potentially jeopardizing the integrity of athletic competition

“While we understand that sports betting is becoming increasingly more common across the country and allows for states to generate increased tax revenue, prop betting represents unique risks at the college level,” the Big Ten Conference Student-Athlete Issues Commission wrote. “We believe protecting student-athletes must be a priority. Limiting or eliminating prop betting on college athletics would be a meaningful step toward reducing harassment, protecting mental well-being, and preserving the integrity of college competition.”

The Big Ten Conference SAIC was founded in 1994. SAIC members take an active role in monthly meetings discussing the issues most important to Big Ten Conference student-athletes and highlighting ongoing initiatives on their respective campuses. SAIC executive leadership members also represent Big Ten student-athletes in front of the Conference’s Joint Group council and represent the Big Ten Conference on the NCAA’s Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, where they review NCAA activities, proposed legislation and offer feedback on behalf of the Big Ten’s student-athletes. Student-athletes are nominated by their institution and appointed by the Conference’s Joint Group Executive Committee to serve on the commission for one academic year.

The 116th Big Ten Men's Gymnastics Championships will be held April 3-4 at the Pinnacle Bank Arena on the University of Nebraska campus in Lincoln, Neb. The meet will be conducted over two days, with the team and all-around competitions held on Friday, April 3, and the individual event finals taking place on Saturday, April 4. Rotations on both days will begin at 7 p.m. (CT).

The 10 highest individual scores on each apparatus from the team competition shall advance to the individual event finals — in case of a tie, it shall be broken by the highest individual E (Execution) judging panel score on that apparatus during the team competition. If a tie still exists, the individual with the higher national ranking prior to the Big Ten Championships will advance. A printed copy of the national ranking shall be available at the head table. One alternate shall be prepared in case of injury.

Both days of competition will be televised live on the Big Ten Network and will also be available on the FOX Sports app.

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Michigan Wolverines have been selected as a unanimous choice to win the 2026 Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics title, according a poll of the conference’s coaches announced on Thursday.

Last season, the Wolverines raised their fifth consecutive Big Ten championship and secured the program’s seventh NCAA Championship.

In Thursday’s preseason conference poll, Michigan was followed by Nebraska, Illinois, Penn State, and Ohio State.

Four Big Ten teams advanced to the 2025 NCAA Championship finals, with Nebraska, Penn State, and Illinois finishing fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively. Three Big Ten student-athletes also claimed individual titles. Michigan’s Fred Richard won the all-around, while teammate Paul Juda won the parallel bars. Ohio State’s Kameron Nelson earned gold in the vault.

In addition to Thursday’s preseason Big Ten poll, the conference unveiled the 2026 Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch List, as selected by the conference coaches.

Among the 10-person Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch list are three student-athletes who earned All-Big Ten honors last season.

Richard leads the trio after claiming his third consecutive all-around gold at the 2025 Big Ten championship, while Ohio State’s Jesse Pakele won gold in the floor exercise. Nebraska’s Asher Cohen was also named to the list after securing a second-place finish in the still rings.

The 2026 season will get underway on Jan. 10, when Michigan hosts Greenville and Simpson. One day later, Penn State will play host to Army. Nebraska will open its 2026 slate on Saturday, Jan. 17 at the Rocky Mountain Open, while Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio State will begin at the Ohio State Open in Columbus on Jan. 18.

Nebraska’s Pinnacle Bank Arena will play host to the 2026 Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics Championships on April 3-4 in Lincoln, Neb. Illinois will host the 2026 NCAA Championships on April 17-18 at the State Farm Center, the fifth time the Illini have hosted the event.

Dillan Fontus of Maryland Football and Nanea Estrella, a member of the Iowa Women's Wrestling team, were named the inaugural national winners last spring. Both will be hosted in Indianapolis next month and recognized on the field during the 2025 Discover Big Ten Football Championship Game at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday, December 6 (8pm ET; FOX).

Jackie Robinson was a standout student-athlete at UCLA, where he was the school’s first four-sport letter winner, excelling in football, basketball, track and field, and baseball. Beyond his athletic prowess, he continues to be recognized and honored for his contributions off the field: integrating Major League Baseball and his lifelong commitment to social justice. He is the embodiment of the Big Ten's mission to develop strong student leaders, and we honor his legacy and core values of courage, determination, teamwork, persistence, integrity, citizenship, justice, commitment, and excellence. Three Big Ten Men's Gymnasts Named to CSC Academic All-America At-Large Team

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Three Big Ten men’s gymnastics student-athletes were recently honored for their performance in the classroom, as College Sports Communicators announced its 2025 Academic All-America At-Large Team.

Nebraska’s Asher Cohen and Ohio State’s Kameron Nelson were named to the Second Team, while Nebraska’s Taylor Christopulos received Third Team honors.

Cohen scores his second consecutive Academic All-America honor after earning Third Team accolades in 2024. The junior finished second at the Big Ten Championships on the still rings, earning Second Team honors, before being named to the All-America Team with a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships.

Nelson collected the academic honor after claiming the 2025 NCAA vault title, becoming the first Buckeye to win an individual event title since Alec Yoder won pommel horse in 2019 and the first to win the vault since Pejman Ebrahimi in 2007. Nelson also captured the Big Ten vault crown, matching his 2022vault championship.

Christopulos capped his collegiate career as 2025 Big Ten Gymnast of the Year and winner of the 2025 Nissan-Emery Award, presented to the nation’s most outstanding senior male collegiate gymnast. A 10-time All-American, Christopulos finished fifth and eight, respectively, in the all-around and high bar at the NCAA Championships, after posting a third-place finish in the all-around at the Big Ten Championships.

Big Ten Conference Recognizes 111th Medal of Honor Class

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference is celebrating its 111th class of recipients who earned the Big Ten Medal of Honor from their respective institutions during the 2024-25 academic year. Established in 1915, the Big Ten Medal of Honor is the conference’s most prestigious award. It was the first award in intercollegiate athletics to demonstrate support for the educational emphasis placed on athletics.

The Big Ten Medal of Honor is awarded to one male and one female student-athlete from the graduating class of each member institution who has demonstrated excellence on and off the field throughout their collegiate career. This year’s class comprised student-athletes from 15 sports.

Big Ten schools currently feature more than 11,000 student-athletes, but only 36 earn the award on an annual basis. Since the Big Ten Medal of Honor was first presented more than a century ago, just over 1,680 student-athletes have earned this unique distinction. Those names are on permanent display at the Big Ten Office in Rosemont.

New Era Begins As House Settlement Approved

WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 6, 2025 – Today marks a historic milestone for college athletics in the United States. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California has granted final approval to a settlement in the House v. NCAA (“House”) litigation. This landmark settlement – agreed to by plaintiffs representing nearly 400,000 current and former student-athletes and the NCAA, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), Big Ten Conference, Big 12 Conference, Pac-12 Conference and Southeastern Conference (SEC) – will reshape the landscape of college sports, paving the way for a model that prioritizes fairness, stability, integrity and opportunity for student-athletes and institutions.

Overseeing this model will be the newly established College Sports Commission – an independent body that will be responsible for implementing the settlement terms governing revenue sharing, student-athlete Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) deals and roster limits. The Commission will investigate any potential violations of these rules, make determinations regarding potential rules violations and penalties, provide notice and opportunity to be heard, participate in the arbitration process and ultimately administer penalties for violations of these rules. The Commission’s leadership team will be announced in the near future.

Under the new system, student-athletes will have more opportunities to financially benefit during their participation in intercollegiate athletics than ever before. Institutions are now able to share revenue directly with student-athletes, in addition to providing existing benefits such as athletic scholarships, access to world-class training facilities, academic counseling, medical care, post-eligibility medical coverage, mental health resources, nutritional guidance and life skills development.

Beginning July 1, 2025, each year, participating schools can distribute up to 22% of the average revenue among schools in the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC from media rights, ticket sales, and sponsorships – known as the revenue sharing cap. The cap is estimated at $20.5 million per school for the 2025-26 academic year, pending final confirmation. To ensure revenue sharing with student-athletes is appropriately managed and reported to the Court for compliance, athletics departments will use the new College Athlete Payment System (CAPS) platform developed by LBi Software.

Student-athletes will also be able to continue receiving compensation from third-parties other than their institutions for the use of their NIL, so long as their NIL deals are made with the purpose of using their NIL for a valid business purpose and do not exceed a reasonable range of compensation. On behalf of the College Sports Commission, Deloitte* has built and will maintain a new technology platform called NIL Go in which student-athletes will be required to report their NIL deals to confirm they are in compliance with the rules. Deals will be evaluated based on:

Payor association – The relationship between the payor and the student-athlete’s school.
Valid business purpose – Whether the payor is seeking the use of the student-athlete’s NIL for a valid business purpose, meaning to sell a good or service to the public for profit.
Range of compensation – Whether the compensation paid to the student-athlete is commensurate with compensation paid to similarly situated individuals.

Finally, for participating schools, NCAA scholarship limits have been removed and roster limits have been established for each sport, allowing for a significant increase in scholarship opportunities for student-athletes. Under this new model, schools will have the option to offer partial or full scholarships to every student-athlete on a team’s roster, as long as the total number of student-athletes stays within the sport’s specific roster limit. Efforts have also been made to ensure current and immediately incoming student-athletes are not adversely impacted by the establishing of roster limits. Removing scholarship limits allows schools to better support their student-athletes through new scholarships, particularly in non-revenue-generating sports.

“As we enter this new era of college athletics, it is crucial we do so with structure, transparency, and the success of student-athletes in mind — this settlement and new model will ensure that happens. I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to implement this new system that prioritizes fairness and opportunity for all student-athletes and institutions," said Brett Yormark, Commissioner of the Big 12 Conference.

This historic moment allows us to maintain what makes college sports special, the development of young individuals through sport, while also evolving to meet today's student-athletes where they are with new opportunities in a manner that provides long-term stability for collegiate athletics. “The approval of the House settlement agreement represents a significant milestone for the meaningful support of our student-athletes and a pivotal step toward establishing long-term sustainability for college sports, two of the Southeastern Conference’s top priorities. As the journey to modernize collegiate sports continues, we remain focused on identifying and implementing innovative opportunities for our student-athletes across all sports while maintaining the core values that make collegiate athletics uniquely meaningful,” said Greg Sankey, Commissioner of the Southeastern Conference.

Following are significant dates related to the implementation of the settlement:

June 6, 2025: Settlement approved; settlement-related NCAA rules are effective, as adopted by the NCAA Division 1 Board on April 21, 2025.
June 11 2025: NIL Go portal launches.
June 15, 2025: Opt-in deadline for non-defendant schools to fully commit to revenue sharing.
July 6, 2025: Opt-in schools must “designate” student-athletes permitted by the settlement to remain above roster limits.
July 1, 2025: First date for direct institutional revenue sharing payments to student-athletes.
Start of 2025-26 academic year: With the exception of the “designated” student-athletes, Fall sports must be at or below roster limits by their first day of competition.
December 1, 2025: With the exception of “designated” student-athletes, Winter and Spring sports must be at or below roster limits by their first day of competition or Dec. 1, whichever is earlier.

Michigan Wins 2025 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Title

Ann Arbor, MICH. – The University of Michigan men's gymnastics team took home its seventh NCAA men's gymnastics title on Saturday night inside Ann Arbor's Crisler Arena, securing its first NCAA title since 2014.

Trailing Oklahoma by 0.537 points (276.162-275.625) heading into the final rotation, the meet came down to the final routine. Michigan’s Paul Juda delivered a 13.966 as the anchor on the vault to secure the victory over Stanford by just 0.163 points.

Michigan’s 332.224 bested Stanford’s 332.061, while Oklahoma’s 327.891 points were good for third. Nebraska (326.222 points), Penn State (317.258), and Illinois (316.293) finished fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.

Big Ten gymnasts also scored three individual event titles. Ohio State’s Kameron Nelson won the vault with a score of 14.653, becoming the first Buckeye to win an individual NCAA event title since Alec Yoder won pommel horse in 2019.

Juda claimed his fourth career NCAA event title, posting a 14.200 to win the parallel bars. The graduate student also won the floor in 2024 along with the vault and all-around in 2022.

Teammate Fred Richard earned his second all-around crown, posting a final score of 84.264. The Wolverines have now won three all-around golds in the last four years, as Juda took the title in 2022 and Richard one year later.

This marks the 42nd men’s gymnastics NCAA title for the Big Ten. The conference also boasts 295 individual event champions, including all-around winners, after tonight’s action.

Big Ten student-athletes also collected 32 All-America honors by finishing in the top eight in each discipline.

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten recognized eight men’s gymnastics student-athletes on Wednesday, as the conference announced its 2025 Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics All-Freshman Team.

A new award for the 2025 season, this honor recognized freshman for their performances at the Big Ten men’s gymnastics meet, held at the University of Michigan last weekend.

Headlining the Big Ten All-Freshman Team are 2025 Big Ten Freshman of the Year Ian Sandoval from Illinois and Michigan’s Solen Chiodi, who earned All-Big Ten Second Team honors after winning bronze in the vault.

All 5 Big Ten Teams Heading to NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships

ROSEMONT, Ill. – All five Big Ten men’s gymnastics teams will head back to Ann Arbor in a couple of weeks, as each has been selected to participate in the 2025 NCAA Championships. Illinois, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, and Penn State are among 12 teams selected to participate in the event, hosted by the University of Michigan.

Big Ten champion Michigan leads the list of conference participants, sporting the second-highest qualifying score this season (326.838). The Big Ten also claims spots four through seven on the qualifying list with Nebraska (324.538), Penn State (322.700), Illinois (321.100), and Ohio State (320.663).

Oklahoma owns the top qualifying score (327.700), while four-time defending champion Stanford’s score of 326.813 is good for third. Air Force (312.863), California (312.800), Navy (312.263), Army (311.519), and William & Mary (309.875) complete the list of 12 team participants.

The field also includes individual event qualifiers from Greenville, Simpson, and Springfield.

The NCAA Championships will begin April 18 (1 and 7 p.m. ET) at the Crisler Center on the campus of the University of Michigan with two pre-qualifying sessions consisting of six teams each. The top three finishing teams in each session will advance to the NCAA finals on April 19 (6:30 p.m. ET).

Friday’s qualifiers will be broadcast on ESPN+, with Saturday’s finals slated to air on ESPN2.

Current Big Ten programs have won 39 NCAA men’s gymnastics national championships since the meet was first held in 1938, with the most recent Big Ten national champion being Michigan in 2014. Three former conference programs also won one NCAA title each as members of the Big Ten — Chicago (1938), Michigan State (1958) and Iowa (1969).

Last year, four conference teams advanced to the NCAA finals, with Michigan finishing in second place for the second consecutive year. Nebraska, Illinois, and Ohio State finished four, fifth, and sixth respectively.

Michigan’s Paul Juda also won the floor exercise title, while Illinois’ Tate Costa claimed the high bar crown.

2025 Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics Individual Titles Awarded

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Six individual event titles were handed out Saturday night to cap off the 2025 Big Ten Conference Men’s Gymnastics Championships at Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich. In addition, University of Michigan junior Fred Richard was named the Gymnast of the Championships, while Wolverines head coach Yuan Xiao was chosen the Big Ten Coach of the Year by a vote of the conference coaches.

Earlier this week, Nebraska’s Taylor Christopulos was named Gymnast of the Year, while Illinois' Brandon Dang and Ian Sandoval were named Specialist and Freshman of the Year, respectively. This marks the second Gymnast of the Year honor for Christopulos, who was also recognized in 2023, while Dang was also named Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2024.

Richard claimed his second consecutive award and third in a row for the Wolverines after winning his third consecutive Big Ten All-Around title on Friday night.

Xiao was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive season, marking the sixth straight Coach of the Year award for a Michigan head coach. Yuan’s predecessor at Michigan, Kurt Golder, was the recipient in 2020 and 2021.

Ohio State’s Jesse Pakele claimed the floor exercise title with a score of 14.075. The junior is the first Buckeye to win the floor since 2016 when Sean Melton took the gold.

Big Ten Specialist of the Year Brandon Dang posted a score of 14.775 to earn gold on the pommel horse. Dang is the event’s first repeat winner since Minnesota’s Ellis Mannon won the pommel horse gold in 2014-15 and joins Illinois head coach Daniel Ribeiro with multiple pommel horse gold medals.

Nebraska swept the top three spots in the still rings, with Yanni Chronopoulos scoring a 13.950 to earn a slim win over Asher Cohen (13.925) and Chris Hiser (13.850). This marks the Huskers’ first medal in the still rings since Robbie Kocks finished third in 2014.

Ohio State’s Kameron Nelson claimed the vault crown, posting a score of 14.850. This is Nelson’s second vault gold, following his win in 2022.

Penn State’s Josh Karnes’ score of 14.450 in the parallel bars was enough to take the top spot on the podium. The Nittany Lion senior also won the event in 2023.

Evgeny Siminiuc from Michigan scored a 14.100 to win the high bar title. This is Michigan’s third high bar gold in the last four championships.

A total of 20 gymnasts earned All-Big Ten honors following their performances at this weekend’s conference meet, including seven from Michigan, six from Nebraska, three from Illinois and Ohio State, and one from Penn State.

Michigan Captures 2025 Men's Gymnastics Championship

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Michigan won the 2025 Big Ten men’s gymnastics title tonight inside Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Wolverines scored 330.750 points to claim their fifth consecutive Big Ten crown and 22^nd in program history.

Penn State totaled 323.850 points to finish second, while Nebraska’s 322.850 points were good for third. Illinois closed the night in third place with 320.950 points, while Ohio State finished fifth with 315.950 points.

Michigan’s Fred Richard won his third consecutive Big Ten All-Around title, scoring 83.450 points, besting teammate Paul Juda, who finished with 81.750 points. Nebraska’s Taylor Christopulos tallied 79.800 points to finish third, while Illinois’ Ian Sandoval finished fourth with 78.800 points.

The final session of the 2025 Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics Championships will begin at 7 p.m. ET Saturday, and will include the individual event finals. Saturday’s competition will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network and is also available on the FOX Sports app.

Big Ten Announces 2025 Men’s Gymnastics Awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced its 2025 men’s gymnastics individual award winners on Wednesday. Nebraska’s Taylor Christopulos was named Gymnast of the Year, while Illinois' Brandon Dang and Ian Sandoval were named Specialist and Freshman of the Year, respectively, following a vote of the league’s head coaches.

This marks the second Gymnast of the Year honor for Christopulos, who was also recognized in 2023, and the third Gymnast of the Year award for the Cornhuskers. Christopulos also becomes the seventh gymnast to earn the honor multiple times since the award was instituted in 1988.

Christopulos claimed four individual event titles on the season, two on the high bar, and one each on the pommel horse and floor exercise. The graduate student from Layton, Utah established career highs in all six events this season, including a 14.75 on the floor exercise and a 14.100 on the high bar, both of which rank among the best scores in the country on each apparatus this season.

Dang becomes the first gymnast named Big Ten Specialist of the Year, just one year after earning Freshman of the Year honors. Dang was named Big Ten Specialist of the week five times this season and collected three such honors from the College Gymnastics Association (CGA).

Dang will enter this weekend’s Big Ten Championships listed atop the Big Ten standings in the pommel horse and ranked second in the nation with a four-score average of 14.733. The sophomore from San Jose, Calif. went a perfect 7-0 on the horse this season, claiming victories over six of the top 10 pommel horse performers in the country.

Sandoval becomes the ninth Illinois gymnast to claim Freshman of the Year honors and the second in a row after Dang claimed the award in 2024. A three-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week honoree, Sandoval enters the postseason ranked second in the country in the All-Around, boasting a 78.600 average score.

The Frisco, Texas native has claimed five titles during his rookie campaign, including all-around victories against No. 4 Nebraska and at No. 7 Michigan. Sandoval also claimed the floor and parallel bar crowns against the Huskers and added career high scores on the pommel horse and high bar against the Wolverines. Sandoval scored his first event win on the vault against No. 2 Oklahoma.

Also on Wednesday, the Big Ten recognized the five men’s gymnastics Sportsmanship Award honorees. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These student-athletes must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.

The 2025 Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics Championships will be held Friday and Saturday at Michigan’s Crisler Center in Ann Arbor, Mich. The meet will begin at 7 p.m. (ET) both nights and will be televised live on the Big Ten Network, as well as streamed live on the FOX Sports app. Additional information will be available on the Championships web site at bigten.org/MGYMChampionship .

The Big Ten Coach of the Year and Gymnast of the Championships awards will be selected by the conference coaches during this weekend’s meet and will be announced, along with the all-conference teams, following the Championships.
