Penn State Wins Big Ten Men’s Lacrosse Tournament Title

Piscataway, N.J. – No. 2 seed Penn State (9-5, 3-2) defeated No. 1 seed Johns Hopkins (9-5, 3-2) 16-8 in the Big Ten Men’s Lacrosse Tournament Championship game. The Nittany Lions dominated the second half to earn the program’s second title, the last being in 2019.

The first half was met with back-and-forth action that included three ties and three lead changes. A goal by Johns Hopkins’ All-Tournament Team member Jimmy Ayers early in the second quarter put the Blue Jays up 4-3, but Penn State scored three unanswered goals to take a 6-4 lead heading into the locker room.

To open the third quarter, Matt Collison and Hunter Chauvette scored back-to-back goals for the Blue Jays to even the game at 6-6. Shortly after, Penn State found its footing and demonstrated why it is second in the NCAA in shooting percentage, scoring five unanswered goals to end the quarter.

A quick goal from Chauvette closed the lead to 11-7 to start the fourth quarter, but the Nittany Lions went on another run, scoring four straight, which included two goals from junior Kyle Lehman, effectively putting the game out of reach.

Penn State sophomore Hunter Aquino earned Most Outstanding Player honors. He opened the match with the first goal, and finished the day with two goals, two assists and a caused turnover. He also recorded a hat trick in the semifinals win against Maryland.

All-Tournament Team member and faceoff specialist Colby Baldwin was instrumental in the Nittany Lions’ tournament efforts, going 11-of-15 on the day and 17-of-25 in the tournament. Penn State led all schools with five players on the All-Tournament Team.

The Big Ten will find out how many of its teams qualify for the postseason when the NCAA Selection Show airs Sunday evening at 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

The 11th Big Ten Men’s Lacrosse Tournament Presented will feature a six-team field with the top two teams from the regular season receiving first-round byes. The quarterfinals will be played on the campus of the higher seed on Saturday, April 25. The semifinals and championship game will be played at SHI Stadium in Piscataway, N.J. on April 30 and May 2, and will be hosted by Rutgers University.

The winner of this year's Big Ten Tournament will earn the conference's automatic berth into the 2026 NCAA Championship, with the bracket to be revealed live on ESPNU Sunday, May 3 at 9:30 p.m. ET.

Johns Hopkins and Penn State Set to Play for Big Ten Men’s Lacrosse Tournament Championship

TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 1 seed Johns Hopkins and No. 2 seed Penn State will advance to the 2026 Big Ten Lacrosse Tournament championship game. Both schools won a share of the regular season title, and it marks the second time the two schools will square off against each other in the tournament finals.

Johns Hopkins (9-4, 3-2) held on against No. 5 seed Michigan (6-9, 2-3), 14-12, in the first semifinal matchup at SHI Stadium.

The second quarter saw intense back-and-forth action, and with the Wolverines down 7-5, goalie Hunter Taylor took matters into his own hands. The senior captain carried the ball towards half field, and after going unmarked by a Johns Hopkins defender, he committed to attacking the lane and sent a shot to the back of the net to make the score 7-6. However, Johns Hopkins still entered the locker room with an 8-7 advantage after a goal from Chuck Rawson.

The Blue Jays opened the second half with four straight goals to take a 12-7 lead, but Michigan stormed back with five straight goals of their own to tie the game at 12 apiece with 8:09 remaining in the fourth. Hunter Chauvette and Brooks English then scored two solo goals to put Johns Hopkins up 14-12. For the last 6:41, both teams remained scoreless which cemented the win for the Blue Jays. Chauvette led all players with five points on the evening.

In the second game of the evening, Penn State (8-5, 3-2) bested Maryland (7-6, 3-2) in a defensive battle. After the Nittany Lions took a 5-3 lead after the first three quarters, Liam Matthews opened the quarter with a Penn State goal to take a three-goal lead. However, the Terps responded with two consecutive scores from Jack Schultz and Braden Erksa to trail by just one at 6-5 with 6:12 remaining on the clock.

After goals from each team, Penn State’s Andrew Beard scored a goal to put the Nittany Lions up 8-6 with 1:30 remaining, ultimately icing the game. Maryland was only able to earn one more possession but failed to score, securing the win for Penn State. Hunter Aquino, last year’s Big Ten Freshman of the Year, led all scorers with a hat-trick and also added a caused turnover in the winning effort.

Johns Hopkins and Penn State will meet at 12 p.m. ET Saturday in the Big Ten Tournament Championship Game, marking a rematch of the 2019 Championship game, which was also at SHI Stadium. Penn State claimed the title in a 18-17 win, the highest scoring tournament game in conference history. If the Blue Jays win, it will be their first Big Ten Tournament Championship title since 2018.

Big Ten Reveals Men’s Lacrosse Post Season Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference released its individual award winners, All-Big Ten teams and Sportsmanship Award recipients for men's lacrosse on Wednesday.

Johns Hopkins’ Matt Collison and Oran Gelinas were selected as Offensive Player of the Year and Specialist of the Year, respectively. Ohio State’s Cullen Brown was named Defensive Player of the Year and Penn State’s Jack Iannantuono was tabbed Freshman of the Year. Peter Milliman of Johns Hopkins was named Coach of the Year.

Ohio State produced both a conference-high five All-Big Ten and three All-Big Ten Freshman selections. The 10-member first, second, and freshmen teams, along with the individual awards, were voted on by conference head coaches.

Collison becomes the first Johns Hopkins player to win Offensive Player of the Year since 2015, the first year the award was handed out. The senior midfielder has been vital in helping the Blue Jays claim a share of their third Big Ten title in four years. He recorded 36 points this season, including 24 goals and 12 assists. In all eight of the Blue Jays’ wins, Collison recorded three or more points. He was also named a nominee for the Tewaaraton Award on Saturday , given to the best player in college lacrosse.

Gelinas becomes the Blue Jays’ first Big Ten Specialist of the Year award winner, and the fourth goalie in a row to win the award. The senior was a steady presence in the net in conference play to help lead the Blue Jays to a regular season title, as he led the conference with 13.4 saves per game. Gelinas won four Big Ten Specialist of the Week awards this season, including one on March 31 for recording a conference-high 19 saves against Rutgers.

Brown, a senior, has been an integral part of a Buckeyes defense that has allowed an NCAA and Big Ten low of 7.08 goals per game on the season. To help the Buckeyes to their second-consecutive share of the Big Ten title, he has tallied a conference-best 25 caused turnovers in regular season play. Against Johns Hopkins, Brown recorded five ground balls and four caused turnovers while helping hold Offensive Player of the Year Collison to his only pointless game of the season. Brown becomes the Buckeyes’ first Defensive Player of the Year since Robby Haus won the award in 2016.

As a freshman, Iannantuono played a key role in the Nittany Lions’ share of the regular season title. He tallied 16 goals and 16 assists. His 32 points were best among freshman and ninth best in the league this season. He becomes the second-consecutive Nittany Lion to win the award.

Milliman led Johns Hopkins to a share of its third regular season title after defeating Maryland 9-8 in Baltimore on April 18. The Blue Jays went 3-2 during the conference campaign to earn the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament and are ranked sixth nationally by USILA.

The Big Ten also recognized six Sportsmanship Award honorees. The students chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These students must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.

The Big Ten Tournament begins Saturday with quarterfinal matches at Maryland and Ohio State. The semifinals and championship games will be played April 30 and May 2 in Piscataway, N.J.

Big Ten Network Presents 2026 Spring Championships

The Big Ten Network today announced its 2026 Big Ten Spring Championships schedule, broadcasting the tournaments and championships for men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s outdoor track and field, rowing, softball and baseball. Additionally, coverage of the MPSF beach volleyball and men’s volleyball tournaments will be presented across BTN and B1G+.

Coverage of the spring championships begins with the men’s and women’s tennis championships airing live on B1G+, April 22-26. Coverage of the Big Ten Men’s Tennis Championships from Libbey Park in Ojai, Calif., begins Wednesday, April 22, and concludes with the championship on Saturday, April 25. The Big Ten Women’s Tennis Championships Presented by Allstate kicks off on Thursday, April 23, and wraps up with the championship match on Sunday, April 26.

From April 22-24, B1G+ presents coverage of the MPSF Beach Volleyball Championship Tournament from Huntington Beach, Calif., and the MPSF Men’s Volleyball Championship Tournament from Provo, Utah. The semifinals and championship of the beach volleyball tournament will be televised on BTN on Friday, April 24, at 11 a.m. ET and 1 p.m. ET, anchored by Camryn Irwin and Holly McPeak. The championship match of the men’s volleyball tournament is scheduled to air on BTN on Saturday, April 25, at 9 p.m. ET with coverage from Kevin Barnett and Rich Lambourne.

Big Ten Releases 2026 Men’s Lacrosse Tournament Bracket

Rosemont, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has unveiled the full bracket for the 2026 Big Ten Men’s Lacrosse Tournament, set to take place from April 25-May 2 at SHI Stadium in Piscataway, N.J.

With Johns Hopkins’ 9-8 win over Maryland on Saturday, the Blue Jays, Ohio State, and Penn State all earned a share of the Big Ten regular season championship, along with Maryland, who claimed a share of the title last Saturday after a win over Rutgers.

With all four teams going 3-2 in conference play, the Blue Jays also secured the No. 1 overall seed and a bye to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals via tiebreakers.

Penn State holds a head-to-head advantage over Ohio State and Maryland, so the Nittany Lions also receive a bye to the semifinals as the No. 2 seed. Maryland beat Ohio State earlier this season to earn the head-to-head advantage, placing the Terps as the No. 3 seed and the Buckeyes as the No. 4 seed. Michigan and Rutgers earned the No. 5 and 6 seeds, respectively.

The tournament will open on Saturday, April 25, with two quarterfinal games, with the winners advancing to the semifinal round in Piscataway.

No. 3 seed Maryland welcomes No. 6 Rutgers and No. 4 seed Ohio State will host No. 5 seed Michigan at times yet to be determined.

Semifinal contests will begin at 3 p.m. (ET) and 6 p.m. (ET) on April 30 in Piscataway, with the championship scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 2. All three contests will be broadcast live on BTN and the FOX Sports app.

The winner of this year’s Big Ten Tournament will earn the conference’s automatic berth into the NCAA Championship, with that bracket announced at 9:30 p.m. (ET) May 3 live on ESPNU.

3 from Big Ten Named to 2026 Teewaaraton Nominees List

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Tewaaraton Foundation has announced the 2026 men’s Nominees for the Tewaaraton Award presented by Stifel, a list that includes three Big Ten student-athletes.

Johns Hopkins' Matt Collison, Maryland's Eric Spanos and Ohio State's Caleb Fyock were listed among the nominees for the Tewaaraton Award, the preeminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top college lacrosse player in the United States

The selection committees are composed of premier college coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.

Five men’s and five women’s finalists will be selected from these groups, to be announced May 7 at the conclusion of the regular season. They will be honored on May 28 at the Tewaaraton Award Ceremony presented by Stifel at the Andrew W Mellon Auditorium, in Washington D.C.

Nine from Big Ten Selected in PLL Draft

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Nine players from the Big Ten Conference were selected at the 2026 Premier Lacrosse League Draft, held April 14 on ESPNU.

Penn State’s Alex Ross was the first Big Ten athlete off the board. He was selected eighth overall in the first round by the New York Atlas.

Four Big Ten programs were represented in the draft as Maryland had a conference-high five players selected followed by Ohio State (2) and both Johns Hopkins (1) and Penn State (1).

The Big Ten will conclude regular season play this weekend, which will be followed by the Big Ten Tournament, starting with the quarterfinal round on Saturday, April 25 at campus sites.
