Ohio State Men's Tennis Falls in NCAA Quarterfinals

ROSEMONT, Ill. — Another deep run in the NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament came to an end for Ohio State on Thursday. Third-ranked Ohio State lost to second-ranked TCU, 4-3, in an NCAA Quarterfinal match contested in Athens, Ga. It was the 18th all-time appearance in the quarterfinals or OSU.

The Buckeyes (32-5) surpassed 30 wins for the 14th time under Head Coach Ty Tucker, winning three NCAA matches and extending their streak of Big Ten regular season titles to 19-straight seasons. Ohio State also had a two-week stretch in February where it knocked off five top-five teams, including the nation's top-ranked team three times.

Thursday's match brought to a close the 2025-26 Big Ten tennis season, which began in mid-September.

Seven Big Ten Teams Qualify for NCAA Men’s Tennis

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has qualified seven teams for the 2026 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championship. Michigan State, ranked 25th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, received the conference’s automatic berth while No. 3 Ohio State, No. 14 Illinois, No. 19 USC, No. 21 UCLA, No. 34 Wisconsin and No. 39 Michigan earned at-large berths. Ohio State, seeded third overall, and Illinois, seeded 14th, will host first and second matches.

The NCAA field includes 64 teams playing at 16 different sites for the first and second rounds, May 1-2. Sixteen teams advance to the Super Regionals on May 8-9 with eight teams moving on to the National Championship, May 14-17, at Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia.

Michigan State Wins 2026 Big Ten Men’s Tennis Tournament

OJAI, Calif. – Weather delays and the third-ranked team in the country couldn’t stop No. 25 Michigan State from winning its first Big Ten Men’s Tennis Tournament title in 59 years on Saturday at the 124th Ojai. Top-seeded Michigan State held off second-seeded Ohio State, 4-3, as the Big Ten co-champions battled late into the night at Libbey Park. With the win, MSU earned the conference’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Michigan State (18-8) was a point away from a clinch when rain halted play for two hours. When action resumed, Ohio State’s Aidan Kim prevailed at No. 1 singles to even the score, 3-3, setting up a dramatic finish on court two. Matthew Forbes pushed MSU over the top by winning a third set tiebreaker, 7-3, as the Spartans hoisted the tournament trophy for the first time since 1967 and for the third time in program history. Forbes was named the tournament’s most outstanding player.

MSU started the match by claiming the doubles point. The tone was set early when Forbes and Ozan Baris defeated OSU’s Brandon Carpico and Nikita Filin, 6-2, on center court to hand the nation’s fifth-ranked doubles team just its sixth loss in 41 matches. Baris went 5-0 overall on the week to earn a spot on the all-tournament team.

Ohio State (29-4), which was making its 22nd-consecutive appearance in the finals, placed Filin and Kim on the all-tournament team. The Buckeyes brought a 15-match win streak into the match before dropping their second decision to the Spartans this season.

The Big Ten will find out how many of its teams qualify for the NCAA Tournament when the field is announced on Monday at 4 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.

Michigan State and Ohio State to Play for Big Ten Tournament Championship

OJAI, Calif. – No. 25-ranked Michigan State and No. 3-ranked Ohio State won semifinals matches Friday at the Big Ten Men’s Tennis Tournament to advance to Saturday’s championship match, scheduled for 5 p.m. PT at the 124th Ojai in Libbey Park. The winning team receives the conference’s automatic berth into next week’s NCAA Tournament.

No. 1 seed Michigan State (17-8) is looking for its first tournament championship since 1967 and its third overall. No. 2 seed Ohio State (29-3) has captured 17 tournament championships all-time, including 14 of the last 19 since 2006. The Buckeyes are making their 22nd consecutive appearance in the final.

Michigan State defeated Ohio State, 4-3, on March 15 in a result that – 1.) ended the Buckeyes’ 49-match conference win streak, 2.) marked OSU’s first conference home loss dating to 2003 and 3.) produced MSU’s first win in the series since 1999.

Michigan State and Ohio State shared the Big Ten regular season crown with 12-1 conference records. MSU earned the tournament’s No. 1 seed based on a head-to-head tiebreaker.

Saturday’s championship match will be carried live on B1G+.

Big Ten Announces Men’s Tennis Postseason Awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference revealed its individual award winners, All-Big Ten selections, All-Freshman Team and Sportsmanship Award recipients for men’s tennis on Thursday. The postseason honors were voted on by the conference’s head coaches.

Michigan rookie Max Dahlin, a native of Karlstad, Sweden, received the Big Ten Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards while Michigan State’s Harry Jadun was named Big Ten Coach of the Year.

Dahlin (pronounced: Mochs Dah-lin) sports a 28-3 singles record and finished undefeated (11-0) in Big Ten competition. A two-time ITA All-American, Dahlin reached the NCAA Singles Quarterfinals in the fall, has won 17-straight matches and is the highest ranked Big Ten player (No. 8) in the ITA singles rankings.

Jadun (pronounced: Jade-IN) guided the Spartans to their first Big Ten regular season title since 1967. Michigan State ended Ohio State’s 49-match conference win streak and went 12-1 in conference duals. MSU rebounded from a 1-6 start to the season by winning 14 of 16 matches and moving up to No. 25 in the ITA team rankings. In his fourth season at Michigan State, Jadun is the first Spartan recognized as Coach of the Year since the award’s inception in 1987.

Four players named to the All-Big Ten First Team were unanimous selections – Dahlin, Kenta Miyoshi of Illinois, Aristotelis Thanos of Michigan State and Ohio State’s Aidan Kim. Michigan State senior Ozan Baris was selected to the team for the fourth-straight year.

The Big Ten also recognized 14 Sportsmanship Award honorees, who distinguished themselves through sportsmanship, ethical behavior and good citizenship.

Big Ten Network Presents 2026 Spring Championships

The Big Ten Network today announced its 2026 Big Ten Spring Championships schedule, broadcasting the tournaments and championships for men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s outdoor track and field, rowing, softball and baseball. Additionally, coverage of the MPSF beach volleyball and men’s volleyball tournaments will be presented across BTN and B1G+.

Coverage of the spring championships begins with the men’s and women’s tennis championships airing live on B1G+, April 22-26. Coverage of the Big Ten Men’s Tennis Championships from Libbey Park in Ojai, Calif., begins Wednesday, April 22, and concludes with the championship on Saturday, April 25. The Big Ten Women’s Tennis Championships Presented by Allstate kicks off on Thursday, April 23, and wraps up with the championship match on Sunday, April 26.

From April 22-24, B1G+ presents coverage of the MPSF Beach Volleyball Championship Tournament from Huntington Beach, Calif., and the MPSF Men’s Volleyball Championship Tournament from Provo, Utah. 2026 Big Ten Men’s Tennis Tournament Bracket Announced

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced the 2026 Big Ten Men’s Tennis Tournament bracket on Sunday. Michigan State earned the tournament’s No. 1 seed via a tiebreaker as the Spartans and Ohio State shared the Big Ten Championship with 12-1 conference dual records. Michigan State clinched its first regular season title since 1967 while Ohio State secured its 20th-straight regular season championship.

The Big Ten Tournament will take place April 22-25 at Libbey Park in Ojai, Calif. Seedings and pairings are as follows:

ROSEMONT, Ill. – No. 2-ranked Ohio State shutout No. 61 Nebraska, 4-0, Sunday in Lincoln, Neb., to clinch a share of the 2026 Big Ten Men's Tennis Championship.

Ohio State (27-3 overall) compiled a 12-1 conference dual record to finish in a first-place tie with Michigan State.

The Buckeyes have won 20 consecutive regular season titles, all under Head Coach Ty Tucker, and secured their 23rd Big Ten title overall. OSU will take part in this week’s Big Ten Tournament as the No. 2 seed.

ROSEMONT, Ill. – No. 23-ranked Michigan State defeated Purdue, 4-1, Sunday in East Lansing, Mich., to clinch a share of the 2026 Big Ten Men's Tennis Championship.

Michigan State (15-8 overall) recorded a 12-1 conference dual record to finish in a first-place tie with Ohio State. The Spartans will earn the No. 1 seed for this week’s Big Ten Tournament by virtue of a tiebreaker.

The regular season championship is the Spartan’s second overall and their first since the 1967 season.

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana -- The Big Ten Conference has been named the Division I winner of the 2026 NCAA/MOAA Opportunities and Impact Award, the NCAA and Minority Opportunities Athletic Association — an affiliate of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics — announced Thursday.

The award recognizes and celebrates the initiatives, programs and efforts of athletics departments and conference offices in Divisions I, II and III that embrace environments of belonging and well-being and elevate the student-athlete voice in intercollegiate athletics communities. NCAA and MOAA representatives will present the awards June 7-10 in Las Vegas during the MOAA Symposium.

"We're proud to accept this honor on behalf of our 18 schools, whose support makes these initiatives possible," Big Ten Conference Commissioner Tony Petitti said.

Omar Brown, Big Ten senior vice president for community and impact, added, "This humbling recognition is a direct result of the leadership and alignment we have from Commissioner Petitti, throughout the conference office, and in collaboration with our campuses. For four years, student-athletes from Big Ten schools have traveled to Alabama for an immersive journey that included learning about the Civil Rights Movement, visits to historic sites, community service projects and panel sessions with local leaders. The Big Ten has also added new elements to the transformative experience each year to deepen understanding and inspire civic responsibility.

Additionally, the conference creates leadership opportunities for its student-athletes. It partners with James Russell Lowell Elementary School in Indianapolis, connecting its 18 member schools with classrooms that include mentorship and encouragement via virtual meetings.

Another one of its many initiatives are structured conversations with administrators, coaches, athletes and employees to gather feedback and to inform future strategies. Examples include conducting student-athlete experience exit surveys and hosting standing committees, commissions and leadership councils to discuss progress, share feedback and assess strategic alignment. The conference also hosts numerous inclusive programs such as United as One, the B1G Fellows Program, the Student-Athlete Issues Commission, The Women's Volleyball Mentorship Program and the CBS Sports Ambassador Program & Sports Journalism Initiative. The conference also promotes several awards programs, which includes the Jackie Robinson Community & Impact Award to recognize student-athletes who demonstrate leadership, service and volunteerism.

Along with the Big Ten, Saint Michael's College athletics department was recognized in Division II, and Occidental College's athletics department was the Division III honoree.

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Presenting sponsor Discover will deliver custom letterwinner jackets to all 36 institutional winners of the 2025-26 Jackie Robinson Community & Impact Award, the Big Ten announced Wednesday. Each university’s male and female honoree will receive a customized, one-of-one gift featuring unique school elements and visuals.

The first two custom jackets were presented in December at the Discover Big Ten Football Championship Game to 2025 national winners Dillon Fontus, from Maryland football, and Iowa wrestler Nanea Estrella.

Both of last year’s winners, and Sonya Pankey Robinson (Jackie Robinson’s granddaughter), attended the game as guests of Discover, seeing Indiana claim the title at Lucas Oil Stadium on their way to a perfect 16-0 campaign and CFP National Championship. The 2026 national winners will be announced later this spring from the cohort of 36 campus recipients.

In November, the Big Ten Conference announced the 36 student-athletes selected as institutional winners of the 2025-26 Jackie Robinson Community & Impact Award presented by Discover. Now in its second year, the honor was created to recognize Big Ten student-athletes who strive to have a positive impact within their community in addition to excellence in competition.

Jackie Robinson was a standout student-athlete at UCLA, where he was the school’s first four-sport letter winner, excelling in football, basketball, track and field, and baseball. Beyond his athletic prowess, he continues to be recognized and honored for his contributions off the field: integrating Major League Baseball and his lifelong commitment to social justice. He is the embodiment of the Big Ten's mission to develop strong student leaders, and this program honors his legacy and core values of courage, determination, teamwork, persistence, integrity, citizenship, justice, commitment, and excellence. The new ad began airing during Big Ten basketball games and other winter sports in January. Students and alumni take center stage, sharing with viewers what their lives look like and what they have been able to accomplish thanks to their Big Ten university education. Seen on campuses and in communities nationwide, their experiences are living proof of the world-class educational opportunities they received, from learning alongside Nobel Prize–winning faculty to participating in internships and undergraduate research. The spot also highlights the universities’ broader impact through innovation, job creation and service.

Together, the 18 members of the Big Ten Conference are educating more than 810,000 students, preparing them for successful lives and careers. The Big Ten’s collective graduation rate is more than 20 points above the national average and the universities have more than 9.2 million living alumni.

The first ad in the “We Are Here” series began airing last fall and has generated more than 250 million impressions across Big Ten broadcasts to date, including during the College Football Playoff National Championship won by Indiana University. It focused on how Big Ten universities make America healthier, safer and more prosperous through everything from discovering new medical treatments to developing healthier foods to driving economic growth.

ROSEMONT, Ill. — [February, 10, 2026] — The Big Ten Conference Student-Athlete Issues Commission (SAIC) today sent a letter to NCAA President Charlie Baker urging the NCAA to continue pushing for limitations or the outright elimination of proposition (“prop”) betting involving individual student-athletes competing in college athletics. The letter reinforces the Big Ten Conference’s unwavering commitment to protecting the well-being and safety of student-athletes across all 18 Big Ten campuses, and the integrity of intercollegiate athletics.

“The Big Ten Conference is proud to support our student-athletes in calling for the restriction or elimination of individual proposition wagers on college athletics,” said Big Ten Conference Commissioner Tony Petitti. "The Big Ten Conference appreciates the NCAA’s effort to eliminate these wagers and will continue to assist student-athletes as they deal with the challenges that result from proposition bets in college sports.”

President Baker recently sent letters to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and to State Gambling Commissions calling for amended state laws and regulations to better-protect student-athletes.

The letter from the Big Ten Conference SAIC outlines the growing concerns around the rise of individual performance prop wagering in college sports, including:

Increased harassment student-athletes experience because of wagers on individual-performance proposition wagers
Negative impact individual-performance proposition betting has on student-athletes’ mental health
Accusations of impropriety, even when unfounded, damage the student-athlete experience
Potentially jeopardizing the integrity of athletic competition

“While we understand that sports betting is becoming increasingly more common across the country and allows for states to generate increased tax revenue, prop betting represents unique risks at the college level,” the Big Ten Conference Student-Athlete Issues Commission wrote. “We believe protecting student-athletes must be a priority. Limiting or eliminating prop betting on college athletics would be a meaningful step toward reducing harassment, protecting mental well-being, and preserving the integrity of college competition.”

The Big Ten Conference SAIC was founded in 1994. SAIC members take an active role in monthly meetings discussing the issues most important to Big Ten Conference student-athletes and highlighting ongoing initiatives on their respective campuses. SAIC executive leadership members also represent Big Ten student-athletes in front of the Conference’s Joint Group council and represent the Big Ten Conference on the NCAA’s Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, where they review NCAA activities, proposed legislation and offer feedback on behalf of the Big Ten’s student-athletes. Student-athletes are nominated by their institution and appointed by the Conference’s Joint Group Executive Committee to serve on the commission for one academic year.

Big Ten Schools to Compete at ITA Kickoff Weekend

ROSEMONT, Ill. — The second half of the 2025-26 men's college tennis season is underway as schools engage in nonconference dual matches, preparing for the conference schedule ahead.

At the same time, ten teams from the Big Ten have been invited to the ITA Kickoff Weekend (Jan. 23-26), which serves as a qualifier for the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. A total of 56 teams will compete for 14 berths into the national team indoors.

Kickoff Weekend includes five Big Ten programs ranked in the ITA National Poll — No. 6 Ohio State and No. 10 UCLA will host regional qualifiers while No. 21 USC, No. 24 Michigan State and No. 25 Illinois travel to regional sites. Indiana, Michigan, Purdue, Oregon and Washington will also be traveling to regionals.

Kickoff Weekend results/video streams

The fall tennis campaign concluded in November with the NCAA Individual Championships (in its second year as a pilot program). ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Big Ten Conference today released its second annual Players to Watch List for men's tennis.

The list recognizes 14 student-athletes, one from each Big Ten institution, and includes a pair of returning 2024-25 All-Big Ten performers in UCLA's Rudy Quan (first team) and William Mroz of Illinois (second team). Also recognized were five players who appeared at the 2025 NCAA Individual Championships in November: Quan (singles/doubles), Indiana’s Sam Landau (singles/doubles), Michigan’s Max Dahlin (singles/doubles), Ohio State’s Nikita Filin (doubles) and Washington’s Soham Purohit (singles).

The 2025-26 tennis season resumes this weekend and culminates with the Big Ten Tournament in April and the NCAA Team Championship in May.

Ohio State Earns Runner-up Finish at NCAA Doubles Championship

ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Ohio State doubles team of Nikita Filin and Brandon Carpico posted a runner-up finish at the 2025 NCAA Men’s Tennis Individual Championships, which concluded Sunday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

Filin/Carpico (15-3) fell to the Virginia tandem of Mans Dahlberg and Dylan Dietrich by the scores of 7-6 (7-3), 6-2. Ohio State’s appearance marked the fifth-straight year a Big Ten school had reached the doubles final.

Today’s match closed the fall campaign for Big Ten Tennis. The college tennis season resumes in January with team duals.

Ohio State Advances to NCAA Men’s Tennis Doubles Final

ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Ohio State doubles team of sophomore Nikita Filin and redshirt sophomore Brandon Carpico will play for a national championship at the 2025 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Individual Championships Sunday in Orlando, Fla.

Filin/Carpico will meet Virginia’s Mans Dahlberg and Dylan Dietrich in the NCAA Doubles Championship Final at 12:30 p.m. ET. The match from the USTA National Campus will be streamed on ESPN+.

Filin/Carpico have won four matches in as many days and stand 15-2 on the season following a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 win over Penn’s Manfredi Graziani and Aaron Sandler Saturday in the NCAA semifinals.

A Big Ten Conference entry has now reached the NCAA Doubles Final five-straight years. Ohio State’s Robert Cash and senior JJ Tracy were the most recent duo to win a national title, doing so in the spring of 2024.

Dillan Fontus of Maryland Football and Nanea Estrella, a member of the Iowa Women's Wrestling team, were named the inaugural national winners last spring. Both will be hosted in Indianapolis next month and recognized on the field during the 2025 Discover Big Ten Football Championship Game at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday, December 6 (8pm ET; FOX).

Jackie Robinson was a standout student-athlete at UCLA, where he was the school’s first four-sport letter winner, excelling in football, basketball, track and field, and baseball. Beyond his athletic prowess, he continues to be recognized and honored for his contributions off the field: integrating Major League Baseball and his lifelong commitment to social justice. He is the embodiment of the Big Ten's mission to develop strong student leaders, and we honor his legacy and core values of courage, determination, teamwork, persistence, integrity, citizenship, justice, commitment, and excellence. As Jackie famously said, “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.”

Big Ten Sending 20 Players to the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has qualified 20 student-athletes for the 2025 NCAA Division I Men’s Singles and Doubles Tennis Championships, to be held Nov. 18-23 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. The University of Central Florida and the USTA will serve as co-hosts. The NCAA Individual Championships are in the second year of a two-year pilot program that moved the event to the fall season. The team championship continues to be held in the spring.

Brackets for the 64-player singles and 32-team doubles tournaments will be revealed on Saturday, Nov. 15.

In singles, the Big Ten will have 11 players represented from seven schools. Five players are seeded, including four in the top eight: No. 3 seed Aidan Kim of Ohio State, No. 4 seed Matthew Forbes of Michigan State, No. 6 seed Kenta Miyoshi of Illinois and No. 8 seed Ozan Baris of Michigan State. Baris, who is making his fourth NCAA appearance, was runner-up at last year’s event.

The doubles competition will feature seven Big Ten tandems from five schools. Five players from the singles competition are pulling double duty and will compete in doubles: Indiana’s Sam Landau, Michigan’s Max Dahlin, Ohio State’s Aidan Kim and UCLA teammates Spencer Johnson and Rudy Quan. Three doubles entries are seeded with Michigan’s Max Dahlin and Bjorn Swenson rating the highest at No. 4.

Five additional Big Ten players are listed as alternates for the championships.

The Big Ten has reached the NCAA doubles final four-straight years, winning twice. ROSEMONT, Ill. — Two weeks into the 2025-26 men's tennis season and significant developments have already occurred for Big Ten players.

Purdue's Henrik Villanger and Maj Premzi won the doubles crown at the 49th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic. The duo went 4-0 and culminated their tournament run with a 6-4 win over the mixed team of Maximus Dessault (TCU) and Collin Beduhn (Wisconsin) on Sunday.

In Tulsa, Ohio State's Aidan Kim advanced to the singles finals of the ITA All-American Championships before falling to Arizona's Jay Friend. Kim was one of four Big Ten players to qualify for the 2025 NCAA Individual Championships. He will be joined in Waco by Kenta Miyoshi (Illinois), Ozan Baris (Michigan State) and Matthew Forbes (Michigan State), who qualified based on their results at the All-American.
