The top two teams in the USA Hockey/The Rink Live Poll clash as No. 3/2 Michigan State takes on No. 1/1 Minnesota at 3M Arena at Mariucci. The Golden Gophers, the lone undefeated team in Big Ten play, are the new No. 1-ranked team in the country after Michigan State held that distinction for the past two weeks. The series opener will be carried by the Big Ten Network. No. 8/8 Michigan plays host Wisconsin with Friday’s contest being the first game of a BTN doubleheader. Notre Dame encounters Ohio State in Columbus — Saturday’s game will be televised by BTN. Penn State meets Army in the inaugural Capital Hockey Classic on Thursday, taking place at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. • Minnesota ran its conference win streak to eight games by outscoring Michigan, 8-0, last weekend in Minneapolis. Nathan Airey (Friday) and Liam Souliere (Saturday) kept the visitors off the board as the Wolverines suffered back-to-back shutouts for the first time since the 1942-43 season. Defense reigned last week with four of six conference games producing shutouts. As a result, goaltenders swept Big Ten Three Stars of the Week accolades for just the fifth time in 232 weeks the awards have been issued. • Michigan State’s nine-game win streak was halted in a 4-0 loss to Wisconsin Friday in Madison, marking the third-straight season the Badgers have defeated a No. 1-ranked team. The Spartans managed a split in the series with a 3-2 overtime win on Saturday. Wisconsin holds a 23-22-1 edge versus MSU dating to the first season of Big Ten Hockey in 2013-14. • Michigan forward Michael Hage was named national Rookie of the Month on Dec. 5 by the Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA). A Mississauga, Ontario native, Hage led all NCAA rookies with a 1.43 points per game average in November, compiling five goals and five assists in seven games. He helped Michigan to a 7-1-0 record that included games against three ranked opponents. Hage is the highest-drafted player in the Big Ten this season after being selected in the first round (21st overall) by the Montreal Canadiens last summer. • A total of six Big Ten alumni will take part in the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off, a best-on-best international tournament scheduled for Feb. 12-20 in Montreal and Boston. In a battle of Top 10 programs, No. 4/4 Minnesota plays host to No. 6/6 Michigan with undefeated league records on the line. Friday’s game from 3M Arena at Mariucci will be featured on FS1. Consensus No. 1 Michigan State, owner of a nine-game win streak, travels to Wisconsin for the first time since clinching last year’s Big Ten Championship. Saturday’s contest will be carried by the Big Ten Network. BTN will also broadcast the series opener between No. 17/16 Ohio State and Penn State from Columbus on Thursday night. Notre Dame, coming off a trip to Belfast, Northern Ireland for the Friendship Four, is off this week.• The Big Ten schedule heats up this week with the top four teams in the standings squaring off. Minnesota owns a five-point lead in the conference race, having won all six games and securing 17 of a possible 18 points. Michigan State (4-0-0, 12 points) and Michigan (4-0-0, 11 points) also sport unblemished records and have two games in hand. Wisconsin is tied for third at 11 points, having played two more contests than the rest of the lead pack.• Six Big Ten players have been named to the preliminary roster for the 2025 U.S. National Junior Team, USA Hockey announced on Monday. The six are part of a 28-player group assembling in Plymouth, Mich., from Dec. 16-17 for a training camp. Twenty-five players will be chosen to represent Team USA at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship, to be held Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Ottawa, Ontario. Earning invites are Michigan State’s Trey Augustine, Minnesota’s Oliver Moore and Brodie Ziemer, Notre Dame’s Paul Fischer and Danny Nelson and Wisconsin’s Logan Hensler. Augustine, Moore and Nelson helped the United States to gold at last year’s World Junior tournament on a team that featured twelve Big Ten players along with Minnesota Associate Head Coach Steve Miller, who will once again serve on the coaching staff. Michigan State’s Maxim Štrbák (Slovakia) and Minnesota’s Matthew Wood (Canada) have also received invitations to selection camps from their respective countries.• Pressed into action last week, Penn State junior goaltender John Seifarth made the most of his opportunity, winning the first two starts of his collegiate career in a home sweep of Colgate, Nov. 26-27, at Pegula Ice Arena. A Pittsburgh, Pa., native, Seifarth held Colgate scoreless on four power play attempts and stopped 47-of-50 shots during the series to finish with a .940 save percentage. One of his saves was of the highlight reel variety, earning air time on SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays. Seifarth spent the past two seasons playing for the Penn State ACHA Division II club team before joining the varsity Nittany Lions as a No. 3 goalie last spring. Rv/- Notre Dame travels to Northern Ireland to take part in the Friendship Four tournament, facing rv/rv Harvard on Friday and either Merrimack or No. 13/13 Boston University on Saturday. • The only college hockey tournament played outside the United States, the Friendship Four has been contested since 2015. Notre Dame will be the first Big Ten team to compete in the event, which takes place at SSE Arena in Belfast. Notre Dame will attempt to capture the Belpot Trophy at the seventh edition of the tournament. The Friendship Four was created to promote education, social welfare, and community interaction between sister cities Belfast and Boston. • Michigan State is the No. 1 ranked team in the country according to the USCHO.com and USA Hockey/The Rink Live polls. It marks the first time in 17 years the Spartans have earned top billing, dating back to their 2007 national championship. Since Head Coach Adam Nightingale’s arrival in 2022-23, MSU has won 63 percent of its games and last year pulled off the Big Ten “Double”, capturing the conference regular season and tournament titles. The last Big Ten team to achieve consensus No. 1 status was Minnesota on October 23, 2023.&nbsp; • Minnesota and Michigan completed sweeps last weekend, continuing a trend in conference play. Of the 10 conference series contested this season, nine have resulted in sweeps. Minnesota (twice), Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin have accomplished this feat on the road. Last season, 21 of 45 conference series resulted in two-game sweeps. • Michigan tied a Big Ten record for most goals scored in a conference game in a 10-6 triumph of Penn State Saturday night in Pegula Ice Arena. Michigan and Penn State Receive Stars Honors

No. 4/4 Minnesota looks to start a new winning streak when it heads to rv/rv Notre Dame, which returns to Compton Family Ice Arena after two weeks on the road. Coming off a bye week, No. 5/5 Michigan travels to rv/rv Penn State to face a Nittany Lions squad searching for its first conference win. No. 2/2 Michigan State takes a break from conference action to take on the U.S. National Team Development Program in an exhibition game to be held in Plymouth, Mich. No. 14/12 Ohio State and rv/rv Wisconsin are idle this week after sweeping road games on Friday and Saturday.&nbsp; • Seven of the eight conference series (including the last five) contested this season have resulted in two-game sweeps. Minnesota, Ohio State and Wisconsin have swept as road teams. • Michigan State moved up to No. 2 in national polls released on Monday. The 9-1-0 Spartans have won seven-straight games, the program’s longest streak since 2007-08. MSU is also 4-0-0 in Big Ten play for the first time. Michigan State is chasing Minnesota for the longest win streak this season in the Big Ten. The Gophers saw their nine-game win streak snapped Saturday against in-state rival Bemidji State. Minnesota is 4-0-0 at home, and after this weekend, will have played 10 games away from home. Junior forward Jimmy Snuggerud is on the cusp of two career milestones, needing one point to reach 100&nbsp; and three goals to hit 50 (a feat accomplished by three active players). • Goaltending depth has propelled Ohio State to nine wins in 12 games as Kristoffer Eberly and Logan Terness split time between the pipes. Eberly, who is unbeaten at 5-0-0, leads the nation with a 1.29 goals-against average and stands third with a .946 save percentage while Terness ranks sixth in the Big Ten with a 2.28 goals-against and .917 save percentage. The duo has combined to give OSU the 11th-best scoring defense (2.08) in the country. Against Lindenwood last week, Ohio State received a boost offensively from sophomore forward Riley Thompson, who was named Big Ten First Star of the Week. Thompson collected five points (two goals, three assists) and scored the game-winning goal in the series opener. &nbsp; • After dropping two games to Minnesota in the Border Battle, Wisconsin rebounded with a pair of wins at No. 18/18 Penn State over the weekend, extending their win streak in the series to seven games, including five-straight at Pegula Ice Arena. Minnesota, Michigan State and Michigan rank third through fifth respectively while Ohio State (14/14) and Penn State (18/18) also occupy spots in the Top 20. • Minnesota has captured 11 of a possible 12 points to open a five-point lead atop the Big Ten standings. The Golden Gophers are the nation’s second-highest scoring team, averaging 4.30 per game. Head Coach Adam Nightingale earned his 50th win, reaching the milestone faster (in 85 games) than any coach in program history. • Big Ten teams have excelled in nonconference games this fall, posting a .732 winning percentage and a 29-10-2 record. All six games this weekend will be streamed on B1G+. • Notre Dame junior Owen Say was named national Co-Goaltender of the Month by the Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) following an outstanding October in net. A transfer from Mercyhurst, Say posted a 3-0-0 record along with a 1.00 goals-against average and .969 save percentage (stopping 95-of-98 shots).&nbsp; He shared the award with Josh Kotai of Augustana. Say has won four of five games to start his Fighting Irish career. • Ohio State extended its winning streak to seven games with a sweep of Lake Superior State at Value City Arena on Nov. 1-2. The Buckeyes exploded for 15 goals, winning by the scores of 9-3 and 6-2. Not surprisingly, Ohio State’s 2.38 scoring margin ranks sixth-best in the nation. OSU (7-0-1) is one of six remaining unbeaten teams in the nation, joining Denver (8-0-0), Colorado College (6-0-0), Maine (6-0-1), Cornell (2-0-0) and Dartmouth (2-0-0). • Minnesota has also strung together a winning streak that has reached six games. The Golden Gophers opened conference play with a pair of wins against Penn State in Minneapolis. Jimmy Clark’s goal with 26 seconds left in the third period broke a scoreless tie in a 1-0 win Saturday as goaltender Liam Souliere made 28 saves to shutout his former team. &nbsp; • Michigan moved up four spots in the national polls after taking two games from No. 5/5 Boston University by the scores of 5-1 and 5-4 (OT). It was the highest-ranked road sweep in Michigan’s history and marked the first time since 2017 that BU had dropped a weekend set at Agganis Arena. Evan Werner scored the game-winner on Friday and finished with four points in the series to earn Big Ten First Star of the Week honors. Teammate Jackson Hallum recorded a hat trick and notched the overtime game-winner on Saturday to garner Big Ten Second Star of the Week accolades. • Four Big Ten schools rank in the Top 10 in NCAA attendance. Wisconsin stands second nationally, averaging 9,377 spectators per game at the Kohl Center. Minnesota is right behind in third with an average of 8,982. Rv/rv Wisconsin, which opened the Big Ten season two weeks ago, travels to No. 19/20 Notre Dame while No. 4/4 Minnesota hosts No. 18/18 Penn State. The Golden Gophers swept the Nittany Lions in the 2024 Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals. In nonconference action, #11/11 Michigan takes on No. 5/5 Boston University on the road and No. 15/15 Ohio State entertains Lake Superior State in Columbus. No. 3/3 Michigan State is idle this week after moving up a spot in the national polls. Six Big Ten teams are ranked in the USCHO.com and USA Hockey/The Rink Live Top 20 polls, matching an all-time high for the conference.&nbsp; • Ohio State, picked seventh in the preseason coaches poll, is off to a 2-0 conference start and remains unbeaten with a 5-0-1 overall record. RIT transfer Aiden Hansen-Bukata owns a team-best eight points on defense and second-year forward Max Montes has five goals in six games. Kristoffer Eberly (1.00 GAA, .962 SV%) and Logan Terness (1.59 GAA, .942 SV%) have been formidable in goal for the third-best defensive team in the country (1.33 goals allowed per game). The OSU penalty kill is operating at an .889 clip (16-for-18) and the Buckeyes have allowed one goal or fewer in four-straight contests. • Coming off 2024 NCAA Tournament appearances, Minnesota and Michigan State continue to experience success based on 5-1-0 starts to the season. The Gophers rank second nationally in scoring, averaging 5.50 goals per game after netting five-or-more goals in four-straight outings. Junior forwards Connor Kurth and Matthew Wood are averaging 2.0 points per game as the third-leading scorers in the nation. The offense has helped Bob Motzko’s team complete sweeps of in-state rivals Minnesota Duluth and St. Thomas. Michigan State has proven to be stingy on defense as well, allowing 1.50 goals per game while outscoring opponents, 18-9, on the season. Since the start of the 2023-24 season, the Spartans have compiled a 30-11-3 record with Adam Nightingale behind the bench. • Entering this week’s action with a 4-1-0 record, Penn State is continuing a trend of fast starts under 13-year Head Coach Guy Gadowsky. The Nittany Lions have won 19 of their last 22 games in October going back three years and sport a 33-5-0 record in October dating to 2018. Penn State’s only setback this season was a one-goal loss to No. 8/8 Quinnipiac on the road. • The next Big Ten Hockey game scheduled for the Big Ten Network will take place December 5 when Penn State travels to Ohio State. Michigan State and Minnesota Grab Three Stars Honors

Fresh off a sweep of Minnesota Duluth, No. 5/5 Minnesota plays a home-and-home series with Twin Cities rival St. Thomas with Saturday’s game slated for the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. No. 17/17 Notre Dame continues a six-game homestand by hosting Long Island. Rv/No. 20 Penn State encounters St. Lawrence of ECAC Hockey while No. 19/17 Ohio State meets in-state foe Bowling Green in a home-and-home set. No. 10/11 Michigan is home for an exhibition versus the U.S. National Team Development Program (USNTDP). • Big Ten teams own a 16-7-2 record against nonconference opponents, a .680 winning percentage that ranks tops among the NCAA’s six conferences. Last year, the Big Ten posted the best nonconference record in the country, compiling a .731 winning percentage (54-18-6). • The emergence of Ohio State in the Top 20 this week places seven Big Ten teams in the national polls. Five Big Ten schools are listed in both polls while Penn State and Wisconsin are on the cusp joining that club.&nbsp; • Big Ten play began last week with Ohio State sweeping Wisconsin in Madison with a pair of 2-1 decisions. It was a case of déjà vu for the Badgers, who as a No. 2 seed, were upset by No. 7 seed Ohio State in the Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals last spring. OSU forward Max Montes scored game-winning goals both nights to earn the Big Ten First Star of the Week Award while netminder Logan Terness stopped 37 of 38 shots on Friday to garner Big Ten Third Star honors. OSU Head Coach Steve Rohlik earned his 200th career win on Saturday and continues to lead all coaches with 107 wins in conference play. • Minnesota’s offense is clicking in the early stages of the season, producing 20 goals in four games. The Gophers are tied for second in scoring offense nationally, averaging 5.00 goals per game. Minnesota is applying pressure to the tune of 42.5 shots on goal per game as six players are averaging a point-or-better per game after two weeks of action. Bob Motzko’s squad is one of the youngest in the country with an average age of 21.3 years. • Less than a month into the season and second-year forward Garrett Schifsky has already netted three short-handed goals for Michigan.
