<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference announced the 2026 Big Ten Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship award winners on Wednesday, as selected by the conference’s head coaches. The championship meet was held last weekend at the Fall Creek Pavilion in Indianapolis, Indiana. Oregon’s Silan Ayyildiz won Women’s Track Athlete of the Championships, while Nebraska’s Axelina Johansson was selected as Field Athlete of the Championships and Ducks’ head coach Jerry Schumacher was tabbed as Big Ten Coach of the Year for the second-consecutive year. Ayyildiz added to resume after being an integral part of Oregon’s dominance in distance events, successfully winning the mile with a time of 4:37.88) and 5,000m with a facility record time of 15:37.90. She also placed second in the 3,000m (8:53.87) behind teammate Juliet Cherubet. Ayyildiz also won Cross Country Athlete of the Year in 2024 and 2025.  Johansson, the NCAA record holder in shotput, claimed first place in the event at the Big Ten Championships with a mark of 19.47m (63-10 ½). The next closest throw was almost an entire meter short of her best mark on the day.  Schumacher claimed his second coach of the year honors after leading Oregon to its second Big Ten Indoor Women’s Championship. Schumacher has won four out of five of the Championships between Women’s Cross Country and Indoor Track and Outdoor Track and Field since joining the Conference. The Big Ten Conference office recognizes one student-athlete from each team as Sportsmanship Award Honorees. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the student-athletes must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.  </a>   Indianapolis, IND. – The Oregon Ducks won the Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships presented by Allstate on Saturday. This is head coach Jerry Schumacher's second indoor championship with the Ducks.  Illinois was this year’s runner-up with 93 points, while USC finished third with 81 points. Nebraska (63.5 points) and Washington (54 points) rounded out the top five.  The Ducks took home four individual Big Ten titles, as Silan Ayyildiz won the 5,000m with a time of 15:37.90 and the mile with a time of 4:37.88. Juliet Cherubet recorded a meet record in the 3,000m (8:53.81) and Aaliyah McCormick set a meet record in the 60m hurdles (7.89).    The Big Ten Track Athlete of the Championships, Field Athlete of the Championships, Coach of the Year and Sportsmanship Award honorees will be announced on Wednesday (March 4). Minnesota and Oregon Collect Weekly Women’s Indoor Track and Field Honors

BTN will also broadcast the wrestling championships and men’s ice hockey tournament semifinals and championship in March, with full broadcast details announced at a later date.Coverage kicks off Feb. 18-21, with the Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships presented by Allstate.  sent a letter to NCAA President Charlie Baker
 </a> urging the NCAA to continue pushing for limitations or the outright elimination of proposition (“prop”) betting involving individual student-athletes competing in college athletics. The letter reinforces the Big Ten Conference’s unwavering commitment to protecting the well-being and safety of student-athletes across all 18 Big Ten campuses, and the integrity of intercollegiate athletics.“The Big Ten Conference is proud to support our student-athletes in calling for the restriction or elimination of individual proposition wagers on college athletics,” said Big Ten Conference Commissioner Tony Petitti. Limiting or eliminating prop betting on college athletics would be a meaningful step toward reducing harassment, protecting mental well-being, and preserving the integrity of college competition.”The Big Ten Conference SAIC was founded in 1994. SAIC members take an active role in monthly meetings discussing the issues most important to Big Ten Conference student-athletes and highlighting ongoing initiatives on their respective campuses.
