<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced the 2026 Big Ten Women’s Indoor Track and Field postseason individual award recipients on Wednesday, as selected by the conference’s head coaches. Oregon’s Wilma Nielsen was named Women’s Track Athlete of the Year, while Nebraska’s Axelina Johansson was voted for Field Athlete of the Year and Oregon’s Liisa-Maria Lusti was named Freshman of the Year.    Nielsen claimed two NCAA titles in Fayetteville this past weekend. In a stacked group, the senior reclaimed the throne in the mile with a time of 4:40.06. The senior also played a crucial part in the 1600m leg of the Duck’s Distance Medley Relay title, as she pulled away in the final lap from runner-up South Carolina. The group of Juliet Cherubet, Lakely Doht-Barron, Silan Ayyildiz and Nielsen finished with a time of 10:48.76. She also becomes the first Oregon athlete to win Track Athlete of the Year honors. Nebraska’s Johansson, the NCAA-record holder in shot put, lived up to her name and won the NCAA title in Arkansas. Her winning throw of 19.55m (64-1 ¾) was the only throw over 19-meters. Johansson becomes the first Nebraska athlete to win Indoor Field Athlete of the Year honors since the Corn Huskers joined the Big Ten. Johansson previously won the Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year award in 2023.  Lusti was crowned NCAA Champion in the pentathlon after recording a season-best 4,498 points, moving into a tie for the No. 15 performer in collegiate history.  </a>  Rosemont, ILL. – Eight Big Ten student-athletes were crowned NCAA Championships on Saturday evening at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark., which is the most individual NCAA Champions in a single season in Big Ten history.  Two Big Ten teams also placed within the top three, as Oregon finished second overall with 44 points, and Illinois narrowly finished behind the Ducks with 42 points.     The Ducks led all Big Ten schools with four individual Champions. Aaliyah McCormick won the 60m Hurdles with a time of 7.86. After coming short in the Big Ten Championships, Wilma Nielsen reclaimed the throne in the Mile with a time of 4:40.06. Oregon’s Distance Medley Relay team of Juliet Cherubet, Lakely Doht-Barron, Silan Ayyildiz, and Wilma Nielsen captured the title with a time of 10:48.76. <div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference announced the 2026 Big Ten Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship award winners on Wednesday, as selected by the conference’s head coaches. The championship meet was held last weekend at the Fall Creek Pavilion in Indianapolis, Indiana. Oregon’s Silan Ayyildiz won Women’s Track Athlete of the Championships, while Nebraska’s Axelina Johansson was selected as Field Athlete of the Championships and Ducks’ head coach Jerry Schumacher was tabbed as Big Ten Coach of the Year for the second-consecutive year. Ayyildiz added to resume after being an integral part of Oregon’s dominance in distance events, successfully winning the mile with a time of 4:37.88) and 5,000m with a facility record time of 15:37.90. She also placed second in the 3,000m (8:53.87) behind teammate Juliet Cherubet. Ayyildiz also won Cross Country Athlete of the Year in 2024 and 2025.  Johansson, the NCAA record holder in shotput, claimed first place in the event at the Big Ten Championships with a mark of 19.47m (63-10 ½). The next closest throw was almost an entire meter short of her best mark on the day.  Schumacher claimed his second coach of the year honors after leading Oregon to its second Big Ten Indoor Women’s Championship. Schumacher has won four out of five of the Championships between Women’s Cross Country and Indoor Track and Outdoor Track and Field since joining the Conference. The Big Ten Conference office recognizes one student-athlete from each team as Sportsmanship Award Honorees. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the student-athletes must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.  </a>   Indianapolis, IND. – The Oregon Ducks won the Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships presented by Allstate on Saturday. This is head coach Jerry Schumacher's second indoor championship with the Ducks.  Illinois was this year’s runner-up with 93 points, while USC finished third with 81 points. Nebraska (63.5 points) and Washington (54 points) rounded out the top five.  The Ducks took home four individual Big Ten titles, as Silan Ayyildiz won the 5,000m with a time of 15:37.90 and the mile with a time of 4:37.88. Juliet Cherubet recorded a meet record in the 3,000m (8:53.81) and Aaliyah McCormick set a meet record in the 60m hurdles (7.89).    The Big Ten Track Athlete of the Championships, Field Athlete of the Championships, Coach of the Year and Sportsmanship Award honorees will be announced on Wednesday (March 4). Big Ten Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

Minnesota and Oregon Collect Weekly Women’s Indoor Track and Field Honors 

<div class="payload-richtext">The Big Ten Network today announced its 2026 Big Ten Winter Championships schedule, including men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s indoor track and field and men’s and women’s gymnastics. BTN will also broadcast the wrestling championships and men’s ice hockey tournament semifinals and championship in March, with full broadcast details announced at a later date.Coverage kicks off Feb. 18-21, with the Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships presented by Allstate.  </a> urging the NCAA to continue pushing for limitations or the outright elimination of proposition (“prop”) betting involving individual student-athletes competing in college athletics. The letter reinforces the Big Ten Conference’s unwavering commitment to protecting the well-being and safety of student-athletes across all 18 Big Ten campuses, and the integrity of intercollegiate athletics.“The Big Ten Conference is proud to support our student-athletes in calling for the restriction or elimination of individual proposition wagers on college athletics,” said Big Ten Conference Commissioner Tony Petitti. Limiting or eliminating prop betting on college athletics would be a meaningful step toward reducing harassment, protecting mental well-being, and preserving the integrity of college competition.”The Big Ten Conference SAIC was founded in 1994. SAIC members take an active role in monthly meetings discussing the issues most important to Big Ten Conference student-athletes and highlighting ongoing initiatives on their respective campuses.
