Eight from Big Ten Earn Men's At-Large Academic All-America Laurels

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced its annual postgraduate scholarship recipients on Wednesday, recognizing two student-athletes from each of the 14 Big Ten member institutions who plan to continue their education at a graduate degree program. These honorees will be awarded a $7,500 scholarship, based primarily on academic achievements. This year’s recipients, who represent 15 different sports, will continue their education in a variety of different disciplines. Each Big Ten institution developed its own on-campus selection process when awarding the scholarships. Student-athletes must have maintained at least a 3.2 grade-point average (GPA), demonstrated leadership qualities, served as an excellent role model and intended to continue their academic work beyond their baccalaureate degree at a graduate degree program. The Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarship will be used to pay expenses of the student’s postgraduate education to include such related activities as research and teaching, as well as other expenses such as tuition, fees, room and board, required course-related supplies and books. To retain the scholarship, the recipient must be accepted into a full-time graduate degree program within three years from the fall semester after selection. Big Ten Conference Announces 2024 Postgraduate Scholarship Recipients

ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Big Ten Conference is celebrating its 110th class of recipients who earned the Big Ten Medal of Honor from their respective institutions during the 2023-24 academic year. Established in 1915, the Big Ten Medal of Honor is the conference’s most prestigious award. It was the first award in intercollegiate athletics to demonstrate support for the educational emphasis placed on athletics. The Big Ten Medal of Honor is awarded to one male and one female student-athlete from the graduating class of each member institution who has demonstrated excellence on and off the field throughout their collegiate career. This year’s class comprised student-athletes from 17 sports. Big Ten schools currently feature more than 9,800 student-athletes, but only 28 earn the award on an annual basis. Since the Big Ten Medal of Honor was first presented more than a century ago, just over 1,650 student-athletes have earned this unique distinction. KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Penn State won the 2024 NCAA Wrestling Championships on Saturday at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo., capturing the 11th NCAA wrestling title in school history and third straight. The Nittany Lions’ national championship marked the 17th straight year that a Big Ten school has claimed the NCAA Championship.Penn State won the team title with 172.5 points, 100 points ahead of second place Cornell. Michigan was third with 71 points, Iowa fifth with 67 points, Ohio State eighth with 62 points and Nebraska ninth with 60.5 points. Penn State’s 172.5 points set a new NCAA record, breaking the previous mark of 170 set by Iowa in 1997. Cael Sanderson was named Big Ten coach of the Year for the second consecutive year and eighth overall.&nbsp;&nbsp;Penn State freshman Braeden Davis claimed the Big Ten Championship at 125 pounds, following an 8-1 decision over Minnesota’s Patrick McKee. At 133 pounds, Rutgers' Dylan Shawver earned his first-ever Championship with a 23-8 tech fall win over Michigan’s Dylan Ragusin.&nbsp;&nbsp;At 141 pounds, Jesse Mendez claimed first place with a 4-1 decision over Penn State’s Beau Bartlett. Nebraska’s Ridge Lovett topped Michigan’s Austin Gomez, 5-4, to win the 149-pound title. At 157, Levi Haines earned a 4-1 sudden victory vs. Michigan’s Will Lewan for his second-straight 157-pound title.&nbsp;&nbsp;Mesenbrink earned the title at 165 in a 13-11 comeback victory over reigning Big Ten Champion Dean Hamiti of Wisconsin. Edmond Ruth of Illinois earned the Big Ten title at 174 pounds.&nbsp;&nbsp;At 184, Isaiah Salazar of Minnesota earned an 8-1 sudden victory over Penn State’s Bernie Truax, Salazar’s first title of his career.&nbsp;&nbsp;Now a four-time Big Ten Champion, Brooks earned a 19-3 tech fall win over Iowa’s Zach Glazier to win the title at 197.
