GENESIS NAMED THE OFFICIAL LUXURY VEHICLE OF THE BIG TEN CONFERENCE

Genesis has been named the Official Luxury Vehicle of the Big Ten Conference, its first such partnership in college athletics. While the partnership begins with football, it will expand to additional Big Ten sports throughout the year, including men’s and women’s basketball, as well as volleyball, baseball, softball, ice hockey, and wrestling.

The brand’s partnership with the Big Ten Conference is part of Genesis’ broader strategy to connect with college alumni and passionate fans deeply engaged with their favorite teams. Beyond football, Genesis has already been featured across Big Ten athletics through branding and broadcast mentions, including the Allstate Big Ten SEC Volleyball Challenge at Wrigley Field. Buckeyes Hold Firm, Women's Soccer Rolls into Conference Play

From Ohio State’s ranked win in Columbus to Rutgers’ hard-fought in-state rivalry victory, many of the Big Ten women’s soccer squads will carry momentum into conference play on Thursday. Let’s take a look.

Buckeyes Hold Firm Against Ranked Memphis

The headliner of the weekend was in Columbus, where No. 8 Ohio State defended home turf with a decisive win over No. 23 Memphis. The Buckeyes dictated tempo early, seizing control in the 15^th minute when senior Elle Britt scored off a corner kick. Senior Amanda Schlueter doubled the advantage in the 41^st minute, burying a clutch strike to cap off a strong opening half.

Ohio State continued to control play in the second, with Britt scoring her second goal of the game in the 69^th minute to give the Buckeyes a 3-0 lead. While the Tigers got one back, Ohio State held on to advance to 4-0-1 on the season and 2-0-1 in ranked games.

Notables, across the conference:

Rutgers picked up its first win of the season over in-state foe Princeton, defeating the Tigers 4-2. Freshman Lilia Calvert had a brace, including the clutch game-winner with under seven minutes left . Read the full recap here.
Six different players found the net for No. 16 Wisconsin in a 6-2 win over Central Michigan. It was the most goals in a match for the Badgers since 2018, which came against Hofstra in the NCAA Tournament. Read the full recap here.
In Blacksburg, the Illinois defense stood tall in a 1-0 shutout victory over Virginia Tech. Goalkeeper Izzy Lee had nine saves — including this insane deflection — in her fourth clean sheet of the year, while Ryleigh Wood’s first career goal served as the difference. Conference play opens up on Thursday night, with all 18 teams in action. Here’s a few we’re keeping an eye on:

Illinois welcomes No. 16 Wisconsin to Champaign. We’ll see if Lee and the lockdown Illini defense (shutouts in three of last four games) can tame the Badgers (13 goals in last three games).
After Penn State goalkeeper Mackenzie Gress had a career-high 10 saves against Virginia Tech, the Nittany Lions head to Columbus to face No. 8 Ohio State.
Undefeated after the non-conference slate, No. 4 Michigan State travels west to open conference play against USC.
Reigning Big Ten Champion Washington hosts Maryland at Husky Soccer Stadium to begin its conference title defense.

A Buzzer-Beating Header and a Battle with No. 1

No. 4 Michigan State and USC provided plenty of thrilling action in the final tune-ups before Big Ten play begins next week.

Michigan State Stays Unbeaten with Last-Second Goal

In a high-scoring second half that featured all the match’s goals, the Spartans found themselves down 2-1 in the waning seconds at Notre Dame. That’s when Lacey Kindel sent a service into the box that was headed twice – first by Kayla Briggs and then by Ella Janz – before going into the net to tie the match with four seconds left .

Thursday’s draw with the Fighting Irish brings Michigan State’s non-conference record to 4-0-2, featuring two wins against top-12 teams (No. 7 North Carolina and No. 12 Colorado). The Spartans will begin Big Ten play next Thursday with a trip to USC. Read more .

USC Fights to a Draw with No. 1 Stanford

Speaking of the Trojans, they traveled upstate to Palo Alto to take on the top-ranked Cardinal on Thursday night. After falling behind 1-0, USC responded with goals from Jaiden Rodriguez and Peyton Nakagawara and took a 2-1 lead in the 54^th minute. USC remained in front for over 30 minutes until Stanford’s Brooke Holden redirected a cross for the equalizer. It was one of the few shots Josie Biehl couldn’t stop – the freshman made a career-high seven saves for the Trojans. More on the match .

USC will look to take the confidence gained in this showdown with No. 1 into next week’s Big Ten opener against the No. 4 Spartans.

The action does not slow down, with more ranked matchups ahead this weekend:

No. 8 Ohio State welcomes in No. 23 Memphis on Sunday night for a top-25 matchup in Columbus. The Buckeyes are 1-0-1 against ranked opponents this season, tying No. 25 Clemson before defeating No. 12 Kansas.
Northwestern takes its four-game undefeated streak down to Knoxville, where it will face off against No. 10 Tennessee.

Big Ten Network Celebrates Season 20

As the Big Ten Network begins Season 20, the network is highlighting two decades of the Big Ten’s top games, remarkable moments and noteworthy student-athletes with a collection of new original programming. As part of the celebratory year, BTN also announced Thrivent as the presenting sponsor of BTN Season 20 and DIRECTV as the associate sponsor.

As the 20th season of football gets underway, all 18 Big Ten programs will be featured throughout the first three weeks of BTN’s television schedule. Additionally, B1G Tailgate will begin its 10th season with on-site visits to the last two National Champions, beginning with a trip to Ohio State on Saturday, Sept. 5, followed by a show from Indiana on Saturday, Sept. 12.

B1G Network Season 20: 20 Moments: Debuting later this fall, a series hosted by acclaimed sportswriter and columnist Gene Wojciechowski takes fans through 20 of the most memorable moments covered by BTN over the last two decades. Highlights include the first Iowa Wave, Nebraska volleyball setting an attendance record at Memorial Stadium and Indiana’s Curt Cignetti’s introduction to the Big Ten.

Original Documentaries: Over the last 20 years, the Big Ten Conference and its 18 institutions have played a significant role in the growth of women’s sports. The B1G Story: Rise of Women’s Sports provides a look at how the Big Ten was at the forefront of this movement and features sit-down interviews with an array of guests including former Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany, former Iowa women’s basketball head coach Lisa Bluder, former Nebraska volleyball head coach John Cook, Northwestern lacrosse head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller and trailblazing broadcaster Lisa Byington, among others.

A second new edition of The B1G Story will debut in 2027, highlighting the Big Ten Network’s commitment to providing educational opportunities to current and former students across all 18 Big Ten campuses. Through three defining programs – BTN NOW, the BTN Experience and StudentU – over 8,000 participants have received hands-on training, individualized feedback and future career opportunities in the broadcast industry. This upcoming documentary will explore these programs, the people behind them and their impact across the conference.

B1G Network Season 20: Moments and Memories: From day one, five on-air personalities have been a part of the Big Ten Network, helping shape the network into what it is today. Later this year, Dave Revsine, Rick Pizzo, Mike Hall, Howard Griffith and Gerry DiNardo will sit down for a roundtable discussion to reflect on the origins of the network, relive their favorite moments over the last two decades and share stories of working together from the very beginning of BTN.

Alongside the original programming, BTN is set to air two school-specific vignettes for all 18 schools throughout the season. These 36 vignettes will highlight notable athletic achievements from each Big Ten program that aired on BTN, including Jonathan Taylor leading Wisconsin to a walk-off triple-overtime victory over Purdue in 2018, Minnesota’s Rachel Banham scoring an NCAA-record-tying 60 points against Northwestern in 2016 and Penn State wrestling setting the all-time NCAA attendance record for an indoor dual during a win over Iowa in 2025.

From the big results over the weekend to some more marquee games coming up this week, here’s everything you need to know across the conference as the women’s soccer slate continues to heat up.

Michigan State Bounces Back Against Colorado

The No. 3 Spartans delivered another signature win on Sunday, knocking off No. 12 Colorado at DeMartin Stadium in a rematch of the 2025 Sweet 16. Behind two Emerson Sargeant goals in the first half, Michigan State went into the half up 3-0 before defeating the Buffaloes 3-2. The Spartans move to 4-0-1 on the season, with three wins against teams that are ranked in the top 25 poll or have received votes this season. Read the full recap here .

Penn State head coach Erica Dambach notched her 300th win with the program in the first of two victories on the weekend. The Nittany Lions outscored their opponents 11-0 behind a hat trick from Nicole Crane .
On the other end of the spectrum, Dave Dilanni earned his first win as the Michigan head coach.

Upcoming Action on Thursday

Michigan State vs. Notre Dame

Fresh off its ranked victory over Colorado, Michigan State gets another high-profile opportunity when they visit No. 25 Notre Dame. The Spartans will rely on disciplined midfield positioning and lethal transition play to disrupt the Fighting Irish’s patient buildup.

USC vs. No. 1 Stanford

USC faces its biggest test yet on Thursday as they match up against top-ranked Stanford. The Trojans, who got their first win of the season on Aug. 27 against New Mexico State, possess the perimeter speed and athletic backline to challenge the Cardinal, but minimizing turnovers will be critical.

Oregon vs. Utah

Oregon, off to its best start in a decade, has a chance to keep rolling when it hosts Utah on Thursday night in Eugene. Ducks and Hawkeyes Earn Bragging Rights, Another Test for the Spartans

Rivalry wins headlined a busy Thursday night in Big Ten Women’s Soccer. Let’s take a look at some of the notable results:

Oregon Wallops In-State Rivals

The Ducks are off to their best start in 10 years, and they kept things rolling with a dominant 6-0 victory over rival Oregon State. The six goals are the most scored in the history of the series. Ellie Felt’s PK goal in the 27^th minute broke a scoreless tie… and opened the floodgates. Oregon scored five more times in the next 43 minutes, including one more from Felt and a brace from Logan Russo. Read the recap .

Iowa Grabs a Cy-Hawk Victory

Kylie Cino scored in the fourth minute of the contest to give Iowa an early 1-0 lead over rival Iowa State. That proved to be the difference as the Hawkeyes dominated possession, outshooting the Cyclones 26-2. Michigan Ties with No. 25 Notre Dame

The Wolverines came from behind to earn a draw with Notre Dame in Ann Arbor. Down 1-0, Adi Walick converted on a penalty kick to even things in the 56^th minute. The Wolverine defense held the Fighting Irish scoreless the rest of the way. More here .

No. 17 UCLA Falls to No. 1

Preview: Another Test for the Spartans

Michigan State has started the season as hot as any team in the country, catapulting to No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll after a signature win over North Carolina in Chapel Hill. But Thursday night brought the first bump in the road for the Spartans. Despite outshooting Eastern Michigan 22-0, MSU had to settle for a 0-0 draw at home against the Eagles.

The Spartans won’t have to wait long to try and put that behind them, as their aggressive non-conference schedule will see them host No. 12 Colorado in East Lansing on Sunday (11 a.m. ET on Big Ten Network). The Buffaloes are led by the Leyba sisters: Hope, who led the NCAA with 22 goals last season, and Faith, who earned All-American honors on defense a year ago. Standout striker Kennedy Bell, already with three goals, and All-American Kayla Briggs will look to lead the Spartans back into the win column. Expect a physical battle in the midfield that hinges on set-piece execution and clinical finishing.

Big Ten Announces Hosts For 2026-27 Olympic Sports Tournaments And Championships

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference on Thursday announced the dates and host sites for 2026-27 Olympic sports championships and tournaments. For the second consecutive year, all Big Ten Women’s Olympic Sports Championships & Tournaments will be presented by Allstate, the title sponsor of the Allstate Big Ten Women’s Championship Series. A complete schedule is below.

The first postseason hardware of the fall will be handed out on October 30 in Madison, Wisconsin, at the 2026 Big Ten Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Championships on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course, which hosted the 2024 NCAA Championships and numerous NCAA Regionals. The following weekend, the Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament will take place at Ohio State’s Buckeye Varsity Field from Nov. 4-8, and the quarter- and semifinals of the Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament unfold at Energizer Park, home of Major League Soccer’s St. Louis CITY SC. The women’s tournament champion will be determined on Nov. 13 on the home field of the highest remaining seed, and the men’s soccer tournament title also will be handed out on Nov. 15 on the highest remaining seed’s campus.

The winter championships begin in the pool with the Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships taking place Feb. 17-20 in Iowa City, and the Men’s Championships from Feb. 24-27 at Purdue’s Morgan J. Burke Aquatics Center. The 2027 Men’s & Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships return to the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion Feb. 25-27.

For the first time, the Big Ten Wrestling Championships will be hosted at a neutral site, Columbus’ Nationwide Arena, home of the NHL’s Blue Jackets. The conference that has produced 19 consecutive NCAA team champions will gather in Ohio’s capital city March 6-7.

The Big Ten Ice Hockey tournament title will be determined on March 19 at the home of the highest remaining seed in the tournament, and the winter season will conclude with Women’s Gymnastics March 19-20 at Ohio State, and Men’s Gymnastics April 2-3 at Penn State.

Spring action gets underway April 22-25 with the Big Ten Women’s Tennis Tournament at Illinois’ Atkins Tennis Center. The Big Ten Women’s Golf Championships will be contested April 23-25 at Nemacolin Resort in Farmington, Pennsylvania. From April 28-May 2, the Women’s Lacrosse Tournament heads west for the first time at USC’s Rawlinson Stadium. That same weekend Men’s Tennis will determine a tournament champion at Michigan’s Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, and the Men’s Golf Championships will take place at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey.

The Big Ten Men’s Lacrosse Tournament will be held May 6-8 at Penn State’s Panzer Stadium. Big Ten Softball will determine its tournament champion May 12-15 at Bowlin Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships head to TrackTown USA, Eugene, Oregon, at historic Hayward Field, while the Big Ten Rowing Championships return to the Indianapolis Rowing Center May 15-16.

For the eighth consecutive year, the final Big Ten tournament title of the season will be handed out in Omaha, Nebraska, where the Big Ten Baseball Tournament will be played at Charles Schwab Field Omaha from May 25-30.

The non-conference slate continued to heat up as Big Ten women’s soccer hit its second weekend. From a top-10 battle to key regional road tests, momentum is officially building across the conference.

Spartan Statement: No. 5 MSU Defeats No. 7 UNC in Chapel Hill

No. 5 Michigan State earned a marquee statement win on Sunday, topping No. 7 North Carolina — a 23-time national champion program — 3-2 at Dorrance Field in Chapel Hill. Charlotte native Kennedy Bell spearheaded the Spartan attack with a two-goal performance, opening the scoring in the 21st minute and retaking the lead in the 53^rd after the teams went into halftime tied 1-1.

After UNC drew a red card in the 63rd minute, Bella Najera capitalized on the ensuing free kick for her first goal of the season, curling a strike past the wall to extend the advantage to 3-1. Despite a late Tar Heel penalty kick, MSU’s back line held firm down the stretch to secure a historic top-10 road victory and hand UNC its first non-conference home loss since 2022. The Spartans extend their perfect 3-0 start to the season with a massive statement win that cements their place among the nation's elite. Michigan State now returns to East Lansing to host Eastern Michigan on Thursday before welcoming No. 17 Colorado.

We saw a couple more standout moments this weekend:

After falling to No. 11 Wake Forest, Iowa bounced back immediately, defeating UNC Greensboro 5-1 to improve to 3-1 on the season. In all three Iowa victories — over Milwaukee, Loyola Chicago, and UNC Greensboro — the Hawkeyes have scored 5+ goals.
Purdue is red-hot following blowout wins over Chicago State (7-0) and Eastern Illinois (8-0), fueled by multi-goal games from Rosa Maalouf , Megan Santa Cruz, and Jaiden Anderson. The dominant stretch marks the first time in program history the Boilermakers have scored 7+ goals in three straight matches.
Though the match was ruled a non-contest (weather), it did not stop Ella Jablinskey from scoring one of the craftiest goals of the early season, along with tallying an assist, in Michigan’s home opener.

This week, there are some big matchups on the slate, including multiple showdowns against ranked teams.

UCLA vs. Stanford

A West Coast rivalry takes center stage as No. 20 UCLA takes a shot at the No. 1 team in the country, Stanford, in a ranked non-conference matchup. Both programs bring elite technical quality and high-octane transition play. The Bruins will look to disrupt Stanford's possession game, setting up a playoff-like intensity between two perennial national title contenders.

Michigan vs. Notre Dame

Vying for a spot in the top 25, Michigan welcomes No. 8 Notre Dame to Ann Arbor for its biggest non-conference contest of the season. Minnesota vs. BYU

Minnesota hits the road for a hostile environment at South Field against No. 9 BYU. Badgers’ Big Statement

The Wisconsin women's soccer team pulled off an impressive upset Wednesday night, knocking off No. 9 BYU 1-0 at McClimon Soccer Complex. The Badgers weathered a competitive first half before turning up the pressure in the second. The decisive moment came in the 80th minute — a penalty kick rebounded to Hailey Baumann, who buried it in the bottom-right corner. Buckeyes’ Ranked Win

No. 19 Ohio State recorded its second shutout in as many games this season with a 1-0 victory over No. 12 Kansas. Captain Amanda Schlueter, who led the Buckeyes with a career-high 11 goals last season, scored her first of the 2026 season to provide the difference. In the 40^th minute, Schlueter forced a turnover deep in Jayhawk territory and buried a right-footed shot into the back of the net. Peighton Northrup made six saves to notch the clean sheet. Weekend Matches to Watch (Aug 22–23):

Headlining the slate is a blockbuster non-conference showdown in Chapel Hill, as No. 5 Michigan State — the Big Ten’s highest-ranked team — travels to a face national powerhouse in No. 7 North Carolina at Dorrance Field (Aug. 23, 1:00 p.m. ET). Coming off back-to-back strong seasons, Jeff Hosler’s Spartans get an elite-level litmus test on the road against the 23-time national champions.

Michigan State will lean on key offensive playmakers like senior forward Kennedy Bell and senior midfielder Emerson Sargeant to spark the attack, along with Kayla Briggs, who has scored in each game so far. The 2026 Big Ten women’s soccer season officially kicked off Wednesday, August 12, launching a18-team conference campaign anchored by a stacked non-conference opening slate.

Across Wednesday and Thursday, 15 Big Ten squads took the pitch to open their campaigns, headlined by high-stakes non-conference tests, top-25 clashes, and new eras beginning across the league. Some of the biggest storylines included No. 9 UCLA clashing with powerhouse BYU in a premier West Coast battle and USC hosting ACC contender and third-ranked Duke in Los Angeles, while Wisconsin locked horns with Big 12 challenger No. 6 TCU in a marquee matchup.

Game of the opening slate: Iowa beats Milwaukee 7-0 in opener

The Hawkeyes opened their 2026 season in blistering fashion, with five players finding the back of the net in a 7-0 win over Milwaukee at the Iowa Soccer Complex. Both Berit Parten and Berkley Binggeli scored twice as Iowa set a program record for the most goals scored in a season opener.

The Hawkeyes scored the most goals in a game since 2017, an 8-1 victory over Southern Utah.

No. 7 Michigan State 2, Xavier 0: On Wednesday night at DeMartin Stadium, the No. 7 Spartans — the Big Ten’s highest-ranked team in the preseason poll — shut out the Musketeers, with Kayla Briggs and Kennedy Bell finding the back of the net in the opener.
Nebraska 3, Louisville 1: The Huskers opened up the season with a road win over Louisville in Kentucky . Nathalie Lewis scored the opening goal in only three minutes, while Ella Rudney and Ava Makovicka also opened their accounts for the season. Goalkeeper Avery Gillahan had six saves in the win.
No. 12 Washington 1, Portland 0: The defending Big Ten Champion’s title defense started with a 1-0 win over rival Portland in front of a home-opening record crowd of 1,753 fans. The lone goal came less than a minute into the second half from defender Maylen Montoya.
Indiana 2, Hampton 1: Defender Bella Haggerty had both goals for the Hoosiers in a 2-1 victory over Hampton , with Indiana outshooting the opponent 19-3 in the contest.
BYU 2, No. 9 UCLA 1: While No. 9 UCLA jumped in front of BYU, a quick response and second half winner by the Cougars lifted BYU to a 2-1 upset over the Bruins. Full story here . Next up for UCLA is a top-10 matchup in Los Angeles against Duke.
No. 3 Duke 3, USC 1: Junior midfielder Eleanor Morrissey scored USC’s goal in a 3-1 loss to the Blue Devils . The Trojans return to action on Sunday against Pepperdine.

No. 6 TCU 1, No. 22 Wisconsin 0: The Badgers and Horned Frogs played a tight top-25 matchup , but it was TCU who broke through in the 78th minute with the game-winning goal on a corner kick.
Michigan 1, Utah Valley 1: Adi Walick's penalty kick goal in the 54th minute helped the Wolverines earn a 1-1 tie .
Illinois 0, No. 19 Georgia 0: Behind four saves from Izzy Lee, the Illini battled the Bulldogs to a scoreless draw and improved to 4-0-1 in their last five home openers.
Purdue 1, Evansville 1: Freshman Zoe Miles scored her first career goal in the 13th minute, and the Boilermakers outshot Evansville 31-2, but the Purple Aces drew even in the 47th minute and played to a 1-1 draw. Full recap here .
Minnesota 4, North Dakota 0: The Golden Gophers won their season opener 4-0 behind a brace from forward Katie Krohn. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Martin made four stops to earn the clean sheet.

Big Ten Unveils 2026 Women’s Soccer Television Slate

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced its television schedule for the 2026 women’s soccer season. Big Ten Network (BTN) will broadcast 21 regular season matches involving all 18 participating schools.

BTN will also cover the 2026 Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament semifinals and championship game, with the semifinals on Sunday, November 8 and the championship on Friday, November 13. The quarterfinals November 4-5 will be streamed on B1G+, BTN’s subscription streaming service.

Action on BTN is set to kick off on Wednesday, August 12 when USC hosts Duke. In addition to the BTN lineup, Big Ten matches and nonconference contests will be streamed on B1G+, providing access to stream 2,700 more games and next-day on-demand archives.

Michigan State Voted 2026 Big Ten Women’s Soccer Preseason Favorite

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Michigan State was tabbed as the preseason Big Ten women’s soccer favorite through a vote by the league’s 18 head coaches, the conference announced Monday.

The Spartans are ready to get back on the pitch after making their first-ever NCAA Elite Eight appearance a season ago. UCLA, coming off its 10th consecutive NCAA appearance, was second in the voting, followed by defending Big Ten regular-season and tournament champion Washington. Wisconsin and Ohio State were projected to finish fourth and fifth, respectively.

The 2026 Big Ten Players to Watch were also unveiled, as selected by the conference’s head coaches. The list included 15 student-athletes that garnered All-Big Ten recognition and four players that earned spots on the Big Ten’s All-Freshman Team in 2025.

The 2026 campaign kicks off on August 12 with eight Big Ten teams in action.

Big Ten Recognizes 2025-26 Distinguished Scholar Award Recipients

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference announced Monday that 1,962 students on varsity rosters have earned the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award. The list includes students from all 18 institutions, plus Johns Hopkins and Notre Dame and 41 sports who have recorded a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.7 or higher for the previous academic year.

The 2025-26 class of Distinguished Scholar Award Recipients includes 359 students who maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA during the previous academic year, represented in bold on the official list.

Big Ten Faculty Representatives established the Distinguished Scholar Award in 2008 to supplement the Academic All-Big Ten program. Distinguished Scholar Award recipients must have earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full time at the institution for the entire previous academic year (two semesters or three quarters) and earned a minimum GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year, excluding any summer grades. The Academic All-Big Ten threshold is a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for a student's academic career.

Big Life Series Showcases the Spirit of the Pacific Northwest

PORTLAND, Ore. - As the sun set over the rolling hills of Cooper Mountain Vineyards on Saturday evening, “Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest” concluded its immersive educational experience where student-athletes from all 18 Big Ten institutions learned firsthand about the rich culture and history of the Pacific Northwest.

Over the course of less than 48 hours, over 175 student-athletes and administrators engaged in programming that included visits to Multnomah Falls, the Oregon Historical Society, the Grande Ronde Reservation, and Cooper Mountain Vineyards. The event brought together participants from all 18 Big Ten institutions, creating opportunities for learning, dialogue, and relationship-building among student-athletes from across the conference.

“Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest was a remarkable experience that allowed attendees to better understand and interact with the history, culture, landscape, and people that give the Pacific Northwest its distinct identity,” said Big Ten Chief Operating Officer Kerry Kenny. “The unique opportunity to connect student-athletes from across the country to an immersive experience outside of their traditional element is what distinguishes the Big Ten in preparing these young men and women for life after campus.”

At the Oregon Historical Society on Saturday morning, student-athletes learned about how Oregon became the state it is today, including the often-untold Black, Native American, and Japanese history that has shaped the state. Participants also toured the Yasui Family exhibit, learning about the challenges Japanese Americans faced during World War II and the advocacy efforts that helped advance civil rights in the decades that followed.

The quote on the back of the Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest T-shirt: “What is done to the least of us can be done to all of us” was from Presidential Medal of Freedom winner Minori Yasui.

“I found his bravery in speaking out about these issues incredible,” said Indiana women’s track & field sprinter Kristina Vincic. “Having a voice isn’t an easy thing and it takes time to build one. That’s something we can definitely tie in to our teams.”

After learning about Native American history at the Oregon Historical Society, participants experienced its living impact firsthand at the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Veterans Powwow. Student-athletes learned about the traditional longhouse, witnessed cultural traditions, and took part in the Grand Entry ceremony.

Often competitors on the field, student-athletes joined together to dance with members of the Grande Ronde Confederation and in honoring Veterans. For many student-athletes, it is the moment they said they will remember most about the trip.

“It was beautiful seeing the tradition unfold right before my eyes and getting involved with it,” said Penn State football student-athlete Armstrong Nnodim. “As athletes we get caught up in the competitive world, so to come here and bond with everyone from different backgrounds was amazing.”

Launched in 2022, the Big Life Series is part of the Big Ten’s commitment to providing educational and developmental opportunities beyond competition. The Pacific Northwest program represented the latest installment of the initiative, connecting student-athletes with the people, places, and histories that shape communities throughout the conference’s expanded footprint.

Big Life Series Heads to the Pacific Northwest

ROSEMONT, Ill. - As part of the “Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest”, the Big Ten will host over 150 student-athletes, coaches and administrators from all 18 Big Ten schools in Portland, Ore. from Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12. The program is designed to deepen participants’ understanding of the region’s rich history, culture and communities through an immersive educational experience.

Programming will begin Friday evening with a nature walk through Multnomah Falls to showcase the region’s deep ties to nature and the history of the Pacific Northwest landscape.

On Saturday, student-athletes will visit the Oregon Historical Society and have the chance to learn about the Japanese American West Coast experience and hear firsthand from a member of the Oregon Black Pioneers. Through discussions centered on resilience, community, and historical impact, participants will gain a deeper appreciation for the individuals and stories that have shaped the Pacific Northwest.

The group will then travel to the Grand Ronde Reservation for a Veterans Powwow, which will provide an opportunity to engage with living cultural traditions and better understand the history, values and contributions of the Native American communities across the region.

The evening will conclude with a dinner at Cooper Mountain Vineyard, where student-athletes will have a hands-on discussion about the agricultural history of the region and the grape-growing operation.

The Big Life series is an immersive educational experience started in 2022 that focuses on engaging, educating, and empowering Big Ten student-athletes, coaches, and administrators. With trips to Selma, Alabama; Mount Vernon, Iowa; and Portland, Oregon attendees learn about the historical and cultural significance of the region. Since its inception, over 500 students-athletes have participated in these programs. Along with the educational component of the experience, the Big Ten uses these trips to leave a lasting impact in the communities it visits.

Washington Wins Inaugural Allstate Big Ten Women's Championship Series

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The University of Washington are champions of the inaugural Allstate Big Ten Women’s Championship Series, the conference announced Wednesday. The Huskies (113.2 points) earned the title over runners-up UCLA (112), with Michigan (105.6), USC (104.4) and Ohio State (100.8) rounding out the final Top-5 of the year-long competition.

Across the 2025-26 campaign, Washington excelled in numerous women’s sports including soccer, where they captured both the Big Ten regular-season and tournament titles, and rowing, at which they won six of seven grand finals to repeat as conference champions. The Huskies also piled up points with Top-4 finishes at the Big Ten cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field championship meets, headlined by sisters Amanda and Hana Moll who finished No. 1 and No. 2 in pole vault at the NCAA Championships this year.

“Winning is in the DNA of Washington. Having success across the board is something that’s critically important to us,” said Washington Athletic Director Pat Chun. “We take an extraordinary amount of pride in winning this Allstate Women’s Championship award, and being the inaugural winners, especially because the Big Ten conference is so difficult across the board in all sports. This is a league that historically has prioritized women’s sports and is at the current peak of women’s college sports, and for us to be able to win this, it’s really hard to articulate but we take an immense amount of pride in winning this. All of our teams will celebrate this, the way our department is wired this is really a statement about everybody at UW.”

UCLA finished just 1.2 points off the Championship Series-winning total, propelled by Big Ten basketball regular-season and tournament crowns on their way to the NCAA championship, and capturing both conference titles in gymnastics. An outstanding year for Michigan was highlighted by regular-season and tournament championships in tennis, and a dominant performance at the swimming and diving championships.

In October the Big Ten Conference, Big Ten Network and Allstate announced the creation of the Allstate Big Ten Women’s Championship Series, a new competition designed to spotlight and celebrate excellence in women’s athletics across the conference. The championship series is the centerpiece of a first-of-its kind, multi-year partnership that established Allstate as the Official Insurance Partner of the Big Ten Conference, and reflects Allstate’s 20-year legacy of supporting college athletics, as well as its ongoing commitment to women’s sports.

Big Ten Receives 2026 NCAA/MOAA Opportunities & Impact Award

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana -- The Big Ten Conference has been named the Division I winner of the 2026 NCAA/MOAA Opportunities and Impact Award, the NCAA and Minority Opportunities Athletic Association — an affiliate of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics — announced Thursday.

The award recognizes and celebrates the initiatives, programs and efforts of athletics departments and conference offices in Divisions I, II and III that embrace environments of belonging and well-being and elevate the student-athlete voice in intercollegiate athletics communities. NCAA and MOAA representatives will present the awards June 7-10 in Las Vegas during the MOAA Symposium.

"We're proud to accept this honor on behalf of our 18 schools, whose support makes these initiatives possible," Big Ten Conference Commissioner Tony Petitti said.

Omar Brown, Big Ten senior vice president for community and impact, added, "This humbling recognition is a direct result of the leadership and alignment we have from Commissioner Petitti, throughout the conference office, and in collaboration with our campuses. Big Ten student-athletes always are aiming for excellence in competition, in the classroom and in their communities. We will continue to build on this foundation to create transformational opportunities for their development and deliver impact to the many locales we call home across the nation throughout the year."

The Big Ten Conference continues to engage, educate and empower its student-athletes, coaches, administrators and its broader community base with programs, initiatives and engagements that make a difference and encourage positive change. For four years, student-athletes from Big Ten schools have traveled to Alabama for an immersive journey that included learning about the Civil Rights Movement, visits to historic sites, community service projects and panel sessions with local leaders. The Big Ten has also added new elements to the transformative experience each year to deepen understanding and inspire civic responsibility.

Additionally, the conference creates leadership opportunities for its student-athletes. It partners with James Russell Lowell Elementary School in Indianapolis, connecting its 18 member schools with classrooms that include mentorship and encouragement via virtual meetings.

Another one of its many initiatives are structured conversations with administrators, coaches, athletes and employees to gather feedback and to inform future strategies. Examples include conducting student-athlete experience exit surveys and hosting standing committees, commissions and leadership councils to discuss progress, share feedback and assess strategic alignment. The conference also hosts numerous inclusive programs such as United as One, the B1G Fellows Program, the Student-Athlete Issues Commission, The Women's Volleyball Mentorship Program and the CBS Sports Ambassador Program & Sports Journalism Initiative. The conference also promotes several awards programs, which includes the Jackie Robinson Community & Impact Award to recognize student-athletes who demonstrate leadership, service and volunteerism.

Along with the Big Ten, Saint Michael's College athletics department was recognized in Division II, and Occidental College's athletics department was the Division III honoree.

Discover, Big Ten Present Custom Jackets To Jackie Robinson Award Honorees

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Presenting sponsor Discover will deliver custom letterwinner jackets to all 36 institutional winners of the 2025-26 Jackie Robinson Community & Impact Award, the Big Ten announced Wednesday. Each university’s male and female honoree will receive a customized, one-of-one gift featuring unique school elements and visuals.

The first two custom jackets were presented in December at the Discover Big Ten Football Championship Game to 2025 national winners Dillon Fontus, from Maryland football, and Iowa wrestler Nanea Estrella.

Both of last year’s winners, and Sonya Pankey Robinson (Jackie Robinson’s granddaughter), attended the game as guests of Discover, seeing Indiana claim the title at Lucas Oil Stadium on their way to a perfect 16-0 campaign and CFP National Championship. The 2026 national winners will be announced later this spring from the cohort of 36 campus recipients.

In November, the Big Ten Conference announced the 36 student-athletes selected as institutional winners of the 2025-26 Jackie Robinson Community & Impact Award presented by Discover. Now in its second year, the honor was created to recognize Big Ten student-athletes who strive to have a positive impact within their community in addition to excellence in competition.

Jackie Robinson was a standout student-athlete at UCLA, where he was the school’s first four-sport letter winner, excelling in football, basketball, track and field, and baseball. Beyond his athletic prowess, he continues to be recognized and honored for his contributions off the field: integrating Major League Baseball and his lifelong commitment to social justice. He is the embodiment of the Big Ten's mission to develop strong student leaders, and this program honors his legacy and core values of courage, determination, teamwork, persistence, integrity, citizenship, justice, commitment, and excellence. As Jackie famously said, “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.”

The Big Ten Conference’s commitment to athletics, academics and service goes back to the conference’s founding. Coupling the academic goals set forth by leaders of the charter members of the conference with their steadfast commitment to athletics, the conference instituted the Big Ten Medal of Honor in 1915, the first award to demonstrate support for the educational emphasis placed on intercollegiate athletics. It is awarded annually by each member institution to one male and one female student of the graduating class who has attained the greatest proficiency in scholarship and athletics.

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Big Ten universities’ leading role in educating students and driving economic prosperity is featured the latest edition in the “We Are Here” series of :30 ads .

The new ad began airing during Big Ten basketball games and other winter sports in January. Students and alumni take center stage, sharing with viewers what their lives look like and what they have been able to accomplish thanks to their Big Ten university education. Seen on campuses and in communities nationwide, their experiences are living proof of the world-class educational opportunities they received, from learning alongside Nobel Prize–winning faculty to participating in internships and undergraduate research. The spot also highlights the universities’ broader impact through innovation, job creation and service.

Together, the 18 members of the Big Ten Conference are educating more than 810,000 students, preparing them for successful lives and careers. The Big Ten’s collective graduation rate is more than 20 points above the national average and the universities have more than 9.2 million living alumni.

The first ad in the “We Are Here” series began airing last fall and has generated more than 250 million impressions across Big Ten broadcasts to date, including during the College Football Playoff National Championship won by Indiana University. It focused on how Big Ten universities make America healthier, safer and more prosperous through everything from discovering new medical treatments to developing healthier foods to driving economic growth.

The ad will air on linear and digital platforms during sporting events featuring Big Ten universities, utilizing airtime allocated to the Conference as part of its media agreements, including the Big Ten Network (BTN). This new initiative builds on other Conference efforts, including research vignettes highlighting the impact of university research that air during select BTN sporting event broadcasts.

As with the first ad, the second spot was developed by a creative team made up of staff from Big Ten member universities under the auspices of the Big Ten Academic Alliance. It is the second in a planned series of three ads, which over the course of the series will feature footage from all 18 universities.

Big Ten Conference Student-Athlete Issues Commission Calls for Limitations or Ban of Individual Prop Betting on College Athletics

ROSEMONT, Ill. — [February, 10, 2026] — The Big Ten Conference Student-Athlete Issues Commission (SAIC) today sent a letter to NCAA President Charlie Baker urging the NCAA to continue pushing for limitations or the outright elimination of proposition (“prop”) betting involving individual student-athletes competing in college athletics. The letter reinforces the Big Ten Conference’s unwavering commitment to protecting the well-being and safety of student-athletes across all 18 Big Ten campuses, and the integrity of intercollegiate athletics.

“The Big Ten Conference is proud to support our student-athletes in calling for the restriction or elimination of individual proposition wagers on college athletics,” said Big Ten Conference Commissioner Tony Petitti. "The Big Ten Conference appreciates the NCAA’s effort to eliminate these wagers and will continue to assist student-athletes as they deal with the challenges that result from proposition bets in college sports.”

President Baker recently sent letters to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and to State Gambling Commissions calling for amended state laws and regulations to better-protect student-athletes.

The letter from the Big Ten Conference SAIC outlines the growing concerns around the rise of individual performance prop wagering in college sports, including:

Increased harassment student-athletes experience because of wagers on individual-performance proposition wagers
Negative impact individual-performance proposition betting has on student-athletes’ mental health
Accusations of impropriety, even when unfounded, damage the student-athlete experience
Potentially jeopardizing the integrity of athletic competition

“While we understand that sports betting is becoming increasingly more common across the country and allows for states to generate increased tax revenue, prop betting represents unique risks at the college level,” the Big Ten Conference Student-Athlete Issues Commission wrote. “We believe protecting student-athletes must be a priority. Limiting or eliminating prop betting on college athletics would be a meaningful step toward reducing harassment, protecting mental well-being, and preserving the integrity of college competition.”

The Big Ten Conference SAIC was founded in 1994. SAIC members take an active role in monthly meetings discussing the issues most important to Big Ten Conference student-athletes and highlighting ongoing initiatives on their respective campuses. SAIC executive leadership members also represent Big Ten student-athletes in front of the Conference’s Joint Group council and represent the Big Ten Conference on the NCAA’s Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, where they review NCAA activities, proposed legislation and offer feedback on behalf of the Big Ten’s student-athletes. Student-athletes are nominated by their institution and appointed by the Conference’s Joint Group Executive Committee to serve on the commission for one academic year.

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference recognized a total of 1,852 students on fall sports rosters who have been named to the All-Big Ten Team Wednesday, Dec. 10.

The list of honorees includes 134 field hockey students, 800 football students, 140 men’s and 201 women’s cross country students, 155 men’s and 276 women’s soccer students and 146 volleyball students.

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be on a varsity team (as verified by being on the official squad list as of Nov. 1 for fall sports), have been enrolled full time at the institution for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

NCAA Tournament Bracket | Big Ten Women's Soccer

The Big Ten Conference has nine institutions participating in the 2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship. Nine of the 10 teams that qualified for this year’s Big Ten Tournament are playing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, including Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, UCLA, Washington and Wisconsin. Six Big Ten programs earned top eight seeds in their respective quadrants of the bracket and are on hosting duty.

The 44th annual NCAA Women’s College Cup will be played on Friday, Dec. 5 and Monday, Dec. 8 at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. The first national semifinal will be broadcast live on ESPNU at 6 p.m. ET, followed by the second semifinal beginning at approximately 8:45 p.m. ET. The national championship match will take place at 7 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

Dillan Fontus of Maryland Football and Nanea Estrella, a member of the Iowa Women's Wrestling team, were named the inaugural national winners last spring. Both will be hosted in Indianapolis next month and recognized on the field during the 2025 Discover Big Ten Football Championship Game at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday, December 6 (8pm ET; FOX).

Jackie Robinson was a standout student-athlete at UCLA, where he was the school’s first four-sport letter winner, excelling in football, basketball, track and field, and baseball. Nine Big Ten Schools Headed to 2025 NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference will have nine institutions participating in the 2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship, the organization announced Monday. Nine of the 10 teams that qualified for this year’s Big Ten Tournament will play in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, including Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, UCLA, Washington and Wisconsin.

Six Big Ten programs earned top eight seeds in their respective quadrants of the bracket and will host first-round matches later this week.

For the first time in program history, Michigan State earned a No. 2 seed and will host Milwaukee on Friday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. ET. The outing will be a rematch from early in the regular season when the Spartans defeated the Panthers, 9-0. Michigan State is making its eighth overall and fourth consecutive appearance.

Washington, who won the Big Ten’s regular-season title and the 2025 Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament presented by Allstate, secured a No. 4 seed. The Huskies welcome Montana on Friday, Nov. 14 at 10 p.m. ET to open their 17th postseason berth.

Fourth-seeded Wisconsin will make its 26th NCAA Tournament appearance and eighth in the last nine years when it hosts Western Michigan on Friday, Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. ET.

UCLA also earned a No. 4 seed and will host Pepperdine on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 9 p.m. ET. The Bruins are headed back to the national tournament for the 10th straight season and 29th time overall.

No. 5 seed Iowa is set to host South Dakota State in a first-round matchup on Friday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. ET. The Hawkeyes are on their sixth overall and third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, a program record.

Penn State secured the No. 8 seed and welcomes Army at 5 p.m. ET on Saturday, Nov. 15. It will be the Nittany Lions’ 31st straight appearance, the second-longest NCAA Tournament streak in the nation. Penn State is just one of 11 programs all-time with a national championship (2015) and one of only six programs in the 2025 field of contenders. The Nittany Lions’ national championship in 2015 is the last time a program won its first-ever title as it has only been repeat winners in the years since.

For the first time since 2013, Illinois is back in the NCAA Tournament. The Fighting Illini are set to visit No. 7-seed Memphis on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. ET as they embark on their 13th appearance.

Northwestern is headed to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in program history. The Wildcats will travel to No. 8-seed Alabama for a 7 p.m. ET outing on Friday, Nov. 14.

For the 15th time in the last 17 years, Ohio State will be competing in the NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes are headed to challenge No. 8-seed Georgia on Friday, Nov. 14 at 3 p.m. ET.

Washington Wins 2025 Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament Title

ST. LOUIS – Washington won the 2025 Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament presented by Allstate over Michigan State in dramatic fashion on Sunday afternoon at Energizer Park in St. Louis. The championship match came down to penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw through regulation and extra time. The Huskies bested the Spartans, 4-1, in the penalty shootout to secure their first-ever tournament title.

With the victory, Washington is the Big Ten’s automatic qualifier for the 2025 NCAA Tournament.

The Huskies opened scoring just a little over three minutes into the match. After her initial shot, Kalea Eichenberger caught her rebound and found the top left of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Michigan State responded in the 11th minute. Kennedy Bell drew a foul in the box and Kayla Briggs converted on the penalty kick to tie the score at 1-1.

Neither team could break the stalemate in regulation or overtime, thus it all came down to penalty kicks.

Washington’s Jadyn Holdenried, Laura Cetina, Alex Buck and Julia Hüsch put their penalty kicks through while Michigan State only scored one thanks to a pair of saves by Tanner Ijams to give the Huskies the victory.

Washington’s Samiah Shell was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament after tallying four points on two goals.

The 64-team NCAA Tournament bracket will be announced on NCAA.com on Monday, Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. ET.

Big Ten Conference Announces 2025 Women’s Soccer Postseason Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced the 2025 Women’s Soccer All-Big Ten Teams and individual honors as voted on by the conference’s 18 head coaches. Michigan State’s Kennedy Bell was named Forward of the Year, while USC’s Maribel Flores was tabbed as the Midfielder of the Year. Washington’s Kolo Suliafu was voted Defender of the Year, Ohio State’s Molly Pritchard was selected as the Goalkeeper of the Year and UCLA’s Bella Winn garnered Freshman of the Year laurels. Washington’s Nicole Van Dyke was the unanimous Coach of the Year.

Bell is just the second Spartan to be recognized as the Big Ten Forward of the Year, joining Lauren DeBeau (2022). The junior currently leads the conference with 25 points and 10 goals this season.

For the second year in a row, a Trojan has been named Big Ten Midfielder of the Year. Flores has tallied 22 points and connected on nine goals, which tied for second among the conference’s leaders.

Pritchard is the first Buckeye since 2018 and second overall to claim Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year recognition. She is among the best with an .879 save percentage, which ranks seventh nationally. Her .492 goals-against average is the ninth-best mark in the country.

The Big Ten Freshman of the Year once again resides in Los Angeles as Winn becomes the second Bruin to take home the honor. The rookie forward has started 13 games, posted 16 points and notched seven goals, including four game-winners.

Suliafu (player) and Van Dyke (coach) are the first Huskies to earn individual awards. Suliafu, the Big Ten Defender of the Year, has been a crucial piece of Washington’s defensive unit that has only allowed 11 goals this season and recorded 10 shutouts. Van Dyke earned her first-ever Big Ten Coach of the Year nod after steering her squad to their first Big Ten Championship with an 8-1-2 record in league action and the No. 1 overall seed in the 2025 Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament presented by Allstate.

Bell, Flores, Suliafu and Pritchard each earned a spot on the All-Big Ten First Team, while Winn was voted onto the All-Big Ten Second Team and All-Freshman Team.

The Big Ten also recognized 18 Sportsmanship Award honorees. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These student-athletes must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.

ROSEMONT, Ill. – After clinching its first-ever Big Ten title last Sunday, Washington will be the No. 1 seed in the 2025 Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament presented by Allstate. The 10-team, single-elimination tournament begins Thursday, Oct. 30 at Purdue University with a pair of opening round matches and continues Saturday and Sunday with the quarterfinals. The semifinals and championship match will take place at Energizer Park in St. Louis on Nov. 6 and 9.

Washington wrapped up the regular season with an 8-1-2 mark in Big Ten play, while Michigan State finished with a 7-1-3 conference record to secure the No. 2 seed. UCLA earned the No. 3 seed, followed by No. 4 Iowa, No. 5 Wisconsin and No. 6 Penn State.

The tournament will kick off at 4:30 p.m. ET Thursday when No. 8 Ohio State faces No. 9 Illinois, followed by No. 7 Northwestern and No. 10 USC at 7:30 p.m. ET. No. 1 Washington will play the winner of the No. 8/9 match and No. 2 Michigan State will take on the winner of the No. 7/10 matchup. All opening round and quarterfinal matches will be available on B1G+.

Both semifinals and the championship match will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
