Big Ten Volleyball Tournament to Debut in November 2026

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference will usher in a new era of collegiate volleyball this fall with the launch of its inaugural tournament November 20-25, 2026, at Fishers Event Center, home of Major League Volleyball’s Indy Ignite, the conference announced Thursday. Fans can sign up to be the first to learn about tickets and other tournament information here .

“For the first time in its history, the Big Ten Conference will determine its volleyball champion with a postseason tournament featuring the best volleyball teams in the country,” said Commissioner Tony Petitti. “We look forward to bringing the nation’s top talent together for an entire week of exhilarating competition culminating in the crowning of the inaugural Big Ten Volleyball Tournament Champion.”

The top 15 teams in the regular-season standings will qualify for the tournament, bringing the nation’s premier volleyball programs together in one venue for the first time.

Three matches will be played in the opening round of the tournament, followed by four second-round matches. The competition will then progress through the quarterfinals and semifinals, culminating with the championship match slated for November 25. One off day will be built into the tournament schedule.

The Big Ten regular-season schedule will decrease from 20 to 17 matches, in a single, round-robin format to account for the tournament. Television designations and ticket information will be distributed at a later date.

Big Ten volleyball has long represented the premier collection of programs in the sport, with current conference schools combining for 22 NCAA Division I Championships, including winning 12 of the last 20. Eight of the nine most-watched college volleyball matches of all time have featured Big Ten teams, and six different Big Ten regular-season matches last season earned an audience of more than 500,000 on three different networks.

The Big Ten continues to be the most popular conference in the country in terms of attendance, leading the Division I attendance rankings in every season since 2007, as its matches routinely attract some of the largest crowds in collegiate volleyball – momentum that will assuredly translate to the league’s first conference tournament.

The city of Indianapolis and surrounding communities are no stranger to hosting Big Ten tournaments and championships. Big Ten titles in football, men’s and women’s indoor track & field and women’s basketball have all been earned in the area this year, and the 2026 Big Ten Rowing Championships head to the Indianapolis Rowing Center May 16-17.

Wrigley Field Doubleheader Highlights Inaugural Big Ten/SEC Volleyball Challenge Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference and Southeastern Conference (SEC) have announced a partnership for Big Ten/SEC Volleyball Challenge Week, beginning in 2026. Highlighted by a doubleheader at iconic Wrigley Field, this initiative brings together the nation’s premier conferences in competition that reflects the growth and national momentum of women’s college volleyball.

All 18 Big Ten schools and all 16 SEC institutions will match up beginning Tuesday, September 1, culminating with a historic outdoor doubleheader at Wrigley Field on Sunday, September 6.

“Big Ten/SEC Volleyball Challenge Week culminating at Wrigley Field brings together the highest level of women’s volleyball competition, at one of the most iconic venues in the country,” said Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petitti. “As women’s volleyball participation, sponsorship, attendance and viewership continue to grow, we look forward to providing this unique opportunity to showcase the exceptional competition.”

The Wrigley Field event will feature three national champions with Nebraska taking on Missouri and Penn State battling Kentucky. The matches will mark the first time volleyball has been played at Wrigley Field, creating a unique experience for teams and fans alike and adding a new chapter to one of the most recognizable venues in sports.

“This is a historic moment for the Chicago Cubs, Big Ten and the SEC that has been months in the making,” said Cubs President of Business Operations Crane Kenney. “We’re thrilled to welcome these incredible schools and student-athletes to the first-ever collegiate volleyball game at Wrigley Field.”

Both outdoor matches will be broadcast live on FOX, with the first match scheduled for 6 p.m. CT followed by an 8 p.m. CT start time for the second match.

Challenge week showcases elite competition while elevating women’s sports on the national stage. Various campus sites will serve as hosts to two Big Ten teams and two SEC teams, while Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas will host standalone home matches against Big Ten foes on Tuesday and Wednesday. Linear coverage will be available across FOX, FS1, Big Ten Network, ESPN and SEC Network, with additional coverage streamed on B1G+ and SECN+.

“Bringing the SEC and Big Ten together for a championship-caliber volleyball showcase, culminating at an iconic venue like Wrigley Field, reflects the extraordinary momentum of the sport,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. “This initiative not only elevates volleyball on a national stage but also underscores a continued growth and investment in women’s athletics. We are proud to be part of an event that celebrates the competitive excellence of these student-athletes while helping shape an even more prominent future for women’s athletics.”

Big Ten Receives 2026 NCAA/MOAA Opportunities & Impact Award

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana -- The Big Ten Conference has been named the Division I winner of the 2026 NCAA/MOAA Opportunities and Impact Award, the NCAA and Minority Opportunities Athletic Association — an affiliate of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics — announced Thursday.

The award recognizes and celebrates the initiatives, programs and efforts of athletics departments and conference offices in Divisions I, II and III that embrace environments of belonging and well-being and elevate the student-athlete voice in intercollegiate athletics communities. NCAA and MOAA representatives will present the awards June 7-10 in Las Vegas during the MOAA Symposium.

"We're proud to accept this honor on behalf of our 18 schools, whose support makes these initiatives possible," Big Ten Conference Commissioner Tony Petitti said.

Omar Brown, Big Ten senior vice president for community and impact, added, "This humbling recognition is a direct result of the leadership and alignment we have from Commissioner Petitti, throughout the conference office, and in collaboration with our campuses. Big Ten student-athletes always are aiming for excellence in competition, in the classroom and in their communities. We will continue to build on this foundation to create transformational opportunities for their development and deliver impact to the many locales we call home across the nation throughout the year."

The Big Ten Conference continues to engage, educate and empower its student-athletes, coaches, administrators and its broader community base with programs, initiatives and engagements that make a difference and encourage positive change. For four years, student-athletes from Big Ten schools have traveled to Alabama for an immersive journey that included learning about the Civil Rights Movement, visits to historic sites, community service projects and panel sessions with local leaders. The Big Ten has also added new elements to the transformative experience each year to deepen understanding and inspire civic responsibility.

Additionally, the conference creates leadership opportunities for its student-athletes. It partners with James Russell Lowell Elementary School in Indianapolis, connecting its 18 member schools with classrooms that include mentorship and encouragement via virtual meetings.

Another one of its many initiatives are structured conversations with administrators, coaches, athletes and employees to gather feedback and to inform future strategies. Examples include conducting student-athlete experience exit surveys and hosting standing committees, commissions and leadership councils to discuss progress, share feedback and assess strategic alignment. The conference also hosts numerous inclusive programs such as United as One, the B1G Fellows Program, the Student-Athlete Issues Commission, The Women's Volleyball Mentorship Program and the CBS Sports Ambassador Program & Sports Journalism Initiative. The conference also promotes several awards programs, which includes the Jackie Robinson Community & Impact Award to recognize student-athletes who demonstrate leadership, service and volunteerism.

Along with the Big Ten, Saint Michael's College athletics department was recognized in Division II, and Occidental College's athletics department was the Division III honoree.

"This honor is an acknowledgment of NCAA member schools and conference offices that intentionally create spaces and opportunities for all student-athletes, coaches and administrators to feel seen, heard and valued," said Felicia Martin, NCAA senior vice president of inclusion, education and community engagement. "It is important to recognize these outstanding recipients who diligently embrace a commitment to positively impact their athletic communities and make a significant difference for all humanity."

Discover, Big Ten Present Custom Jackets To Jackie Robinson Award Honorees

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Presenting sponsor Discover will deliver custom letterwinner jackets to all 36 institutional winners of the 2025-26 Jackie Robinson Community & Impact Award, the Big Ten announced Wednesday. Each university’s male and female honoree will receive a customized, one-of-one gift featuring unique school elements and visuals.

The first two custom jackets were presented in December at the Discover Big Ten Football Championship Game to 2025 national winners Dillon Fontus, from Maryland football, and Iowa wrestler Nanea Estrella.

Both of last year’s winners, and Sonya Pankey Robinson (Jackie Robinson’s granddaughter), attended the game as guests of Discover, seeing Indiana claim the title at Lucas Oil Stadium on their way to a perfect 16-0 campaign and CFP National Championship. The 2026 national winners will be announced later this spring from the cohort of 36 campus recipients.

In November, the Big Ten Conference announced the 36 student-athletes selected as institutional winners of the 2025-26 Jackie Robinson Community & Impact Award presented by Discover. Now in its second year, the honor was created to recognize Big Ten student-athletes who strive to have a positive impact within their community in addition to excellence in competition.

Jackie Robinson was a standout student-athlete at UCLA, where he was the school’s first four-sport letter winner, excelling in football, basketball, track and field, and baseball. Beyond his athletic prowess, he continues to be recognized and honored for his contributions off the field: integrating Major League Baseball and his lifelong commitment to social justice. He is the embodiment of the Big Ten's mission to develop strong student leaders, and this program honors his legacy and core values of courage, determination, teamwork, persistence, integrity, citizenship, justice, commitment, and excellence. As Jackie famously said, “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.”

“It is our privilege and great honor to bestow this award in Jackie’s name upon these deserving Big Ten student-athletes and to express our appreciation for the support of the Jackie Robinson Foundation,” said Big Ten Conference Commissioner Tony Petitti.

Honorees were selected based on the following criteria:

Demonstrated Impact: Significant and tangible contributions to community projects or causes, including measurable outcomes or positive changes resulting from their involvement.

Visibility and Advocacy: Efforts to raise awareness and advocate for important groups or causes, leveraging their platform to promote positive change and engage others.

The Big Ten Conference’s commitment to athletics, academics and service goes back to the conference’s founding. Coupling the academic goals set forth by leaders of the charter members of the conference with their steadfast commitment to athletics, the conference instituted the Big Ten Medal of Honor in 1915, the first award to demonstrate support for the educational emphasis placed on intercollegiate athletics. It is awarded annually by each member institution to one male and one female student of the graduating class who has attained the greatest proficiency in scholarship and athletics.

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Big Ten universities’ leading role in educating students and driving economic prosperity is featured the latest edition in the “We Are Here” series of :30 ads .

The new ad began airing during Big Ten basketball games and other winter sports in January. Students and alumni take center stage, sharing with viewers what their lives look like and what they have been able to accomplish thanks to their Big Ten university education. Seen on campuses and in communities nationwide, their experiences are living proof of the world-class educational opportunities they received, from learning alongside Nobel Prize–winning faculty to participating in internships and undergraduate research. The spot also highlights the universities’ broader impact through innovation, job creation and service.

Together, the 18 members of the Big Ten Conference are educating more than 810,000 students, preparing them for successful lives and careers. The Big Ten’s collective graduation rate is more than 20 points above the national average and the universities have more than 9.2 million living alumni.

The first ad in the “We Are Here” series began airing last fall and has generated more than 250 million impressions across Big Ten broadcasts to date, including during the College Football Playoff National Championship won by Indiana University. It focused on how Big Ten universities make America healthier, safer and more prosperous through everything from discovering new medical treatments to developing healthier foods to driving economic growth.

As with the first ad, the second spot was developed by a creative team made up of staff from Big Ten member universities under the auspices of the Big Ten Academic Alliance. Big Ten Conference Student-Athlete Issues Commission Calls for Limitations or Ban of Individual Prop Betting on College Athletics

ROSEMONT, Ill. — [February, 10, 2026] — The Big Ten Conference Student-Athlete Issues Commission (SAIC) today sent a letter to NCAA President Charlie Baker urging the NCAA to continue pushing for limitations or the outright elimination of proposition (“prop”) betting involving individual student-athletes competing in college athletics. The letter reinforces the Big Ten Conference’s unwavering commitment to protecting the well-being and safety of student-athletes across all 18 Big Ten campuses, and the integrity of intercollegiate athletics.

“The Big Ten Conference is proud to support our student-athletes in calling for the restriction or elimination of individual proposition wagers on college athletics,” said Big Ten Conference Commissioner Tony Petitti. "The Big Ten Conference appreciates the NCAA’s effort to eliminate these wagers and will continue to assist student-athletes as they deal with the challenges that result from proposition bets in college sports.”

President Baker recently sent letters to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and to State Gambling Commissions calling for amended state laws and regulations to better-protect student-athletes.

The letter from the Big Ten Conference SAIC outlines the growing concerns around the rise of individual performance prop wagering in college sports, including:

Increased harassment student-athletes experience because of wagers on individual-performance proposition wagers
Negative impact individual-performance proposition betting has on student-athletes’ mental health
Accusations of impropriety, even when unfounded, damage the student-athlete experience
Potentially jeopardizing the integrity of athletic competition

“While we understand that sports betting is becoming increasingly more common across the country and allows for states to generate increased tax revenue, prop betting represents unique risks at the college level,” the Big Ten Conference Student-Athlete Issues Commission wrote. “We believe protecting student-athletes must be a priority. Limiting or eliminating prop betting on college athletics would be a meaningful step toward reducing harassment, protecting mental well-being, and preserving the integrity of college competition.”

The Big Ten Conference SAIC was founded in 1994. SAIC members take an active role in monthly meetings discussing the issues most important to Big Ten Conference student-athletes and highlighting ongoing initiatives on their respective campuses. SAIC executive leadership members also represent Big Ten student-athletes in front of the Conference’s Joint Group council and represent the Big Ten Conference on the NCAA’s Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, where they review NCAA activities, proposed legislation and offer feedback on behalf of the Big Ten’s student-athletes. Student-athletes are nominated by their institution and appointed by the Conference’s Joint Group Executive Committee to serve on the commission for one academic year.

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Twelve Big Ten volleyball student-athletes have been selected as All-Americans by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), announced on Wednesday.

Six Big Ten institutions were represented among the 12 honorees, with three additional schools featured on the honorable mention list.

Nebraska had four players listed on the first three teams, while Purdue had three players earn first-, second- or third-team All-American status.

Nebraska’s Harper Murray and Bergen Reilly, Penn State’s Kennedy Martin and Wisconsin’s Mimi Colyer earned their third All-America honors.

Wisconsin Volleyball's NCAA Semifinal Showdown with Kentucky

The stage is set in Kansas City. After a season defined by grit, growth, and marquee victories, Wisconsin Volleyball has punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament Semifinal for the seventh time in program history and fifth time in the past seven seasons. The Badgers are playing their best volleyball of the year at the perfect moment, but a massive blue wall stands between them and the NCAA Championship match – the Kentucky Wildcats, a No. 1 seed, riding a 26-match winning streak.

Feel familiar? Flashback to the 2015 NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four, when an undefeated Kentucky team faced off against Wisconsin and the Badgers ended the Wildcats' perfect 38-0 season. Now, on the volleyball court, the stakes are just as high, the opponent just as formidable, and the opportunity for history is just as real.

Here is everything you need to know as the Badgers look to tame the Wildcats and advance to the NCAA title match.

Wisconsin's Regular Season: Getting Better and Better

Wisconsin's road to Kansas City was forged in fire. The Badgers are currently 28-4 overall and finished second in the Big Ten with a 17-3 conference record. Their four losses all came to ranked teams: then-No. 5 Texas, then-No. 19 Penn State, then-No. 25 USC, and the juggernaut No. 1 Nebraska.

But over the last month and a half, the Badgers have been nearly untouchable. They haven't dropped a match since Halloween, giving them a 13-match winning streak. During that stretch, they’ve dropped only four total sets. Wisconsin hasn't just been winning; it’s been dominating, and at the right time.

The resume speaks for itself. Wisconsin notched 11 wins over ranked opponents this season (including the tournament). The individual accolades followed the team's success, with Mimi Colyer, Carter Booth, and Charlie Fuerbringer all earning All-Big Ten First Team honors. Head coach Kelly Sheffield was named AVCA North Region Coach of the Year, while Colyer is a finalist for AVCA National Player of the Year.

Badger Dominance: The Road to the National Semifinal

2025 marks the Badgers’ fifth national semifinal appearance in seven seasons and sixth under head coach Kelly Sheffield. Take a look at how they got here.

Regional Final vs. No. 1 seed Texas

In the Regional Final, Wisconsin got redemption at No. 1 seed Texas . The Longhorns were responsible for one of Wisconsin's few regular-season losses, but the NCAA Regional Final told a different story. Wisconsin dismantled the four-time national champs in four sets to advance. It was a complete team effort: Mimi Colyer (23 kills), Una Vajagic (15 kills), and Carter Booth (11 kills) all surpassed double digit kills, while setter Charlie Fuerbringer dished out 57 assists as the Badgers hit .294. It was Wisconsin’s first win over Texas in Austin since 2016, and it couldn't have come at a better time.

"I'm excited to still be playing with these guys," said head coach Kelly Sheffield after the win. "I love how far this team has gone. They have grown so incredibly much since the beginning of this season. I know nobody wants this thing to end."

Regional Semifinal vs. No. 2 seed Stanford

Before toppling Texas, the Badgers made history in the regional semifinal, taking down No. 2 seed Stanford . It was the first time in program history Wisconsin defeated the Cardinal, and its offense did it in style, hitting a scorching .420 as a team—a program record for a four-set match.

That match also saw Mimi Colyer etch her name in the record books, joining the elite 2,000 career kill club behind a masterful 27-kill performance and breaking Sarah Franklin’s school record for kills in a season.

"I want to get in these big games and be competitive and play with a group of girls that want to win and need to win," Colyer said. "I think our team is doing just that, I think we're gelling at the right time, and we're gaining so much momentum."

First Two Rounds

Earlier in the tournament, the Badgers swept North Carolina in the second round, showcasing a suffocating defense where three players recorded double-figure digs. They also made short work of Eastern Illinois .

And Now...

As Coach Sheffield noted, the team has found a "collective confidence." They aren't just a collection of talent; they are a cohesive unit peaking at exactly the right moment.

Scouting Report: The Kentucky Juggernaut

To advance to Sunday, Wisconsin must get past another No. 1 seed and one of the hottest teams in the country. Kentucky hasn't tasted defeat since September. The Wildcats are perfect in their last 26 matches, including a spotless 15-0 run through the SEC regular season and tournament.

The Wildcats are led by a two-headed offensive monster: Eva Hudson and Brooklyn DeLeye. The duo is capable of taking over matches. Against UCLA in the tournament’s second round, they combined for a staggering 57 kills. As head coach Craig Skinner put it, they "carry the offensive load" and bail the team out of tough situations.

But don't sleep on their defense. Kentucky's back row is relentless, anchored by libero Molly Tuozzo, who recently led the Cats to a three-set school record 66 digs against Wofford in the first round. This is a program with a winning pedigree—SEC Champions for nine consecutive seasons—and serious resilience. They proved that in the SEC Tournament title game, pulling off a reverse sweep against Texas to take the crown.

Their path to the Final Four has been dominant: sweeps over Wofford, Cal Poly, and No. 3 seed Creighton, with their only dropped set coming against No. 8 seed UCLA.

A Tight Matchup on the Books

On paper, this is a clash of statistical titans. Both programs are playing some of the best team volleyball in the nation.

The Quarterbacks

The setting battle features two of the best. Wisconsin's Charlie Fuerbringer leads the nation with 12.32 assists per set, while her Kentucky counterpart, Kassie O'Brien, isn't far behind. She's seventh nationally with 11.02 assists per set. Because of their distribution, Wisconsin (first, 14.26) and Kentucky (second, 13.93) are the top two teams in the country in assists per set.

The Offenses

Expect fireworks. These two teams lead the nation in kills per set. Wisconsin sits at No. 1 (15.16), while Kentucky is right on its heels at No. 2 (14.95). However, the Badgers hold the edge in efficiency, hitting .325 (second nationally) compared to Kentucky's .295 (ninth).

The Stars

The match will feature two of the four AVCA Player of the Year finalists. Unanimous All-Big Ten First Team selection Mimi Colyer enters ranked third nationally with 5.39 kills per set, while Kentucky's Eva Hudson – the SEC Player of the Year – averages 4.54 per set.

The Past

History is on the Badgers' side in recent meetings—Wisconsin has won the last three matches against Kentucky. The powerhouse squads have never faced off in the postseason.

Keys to Victory: How Wisconsin Wins

So, how does Wisconsin pull off the upset and end Kentucky's streak?

Win the Net Battle

This match will likely come down to Wisconsin's elite offense trying to crack Kentucky's scrappy defense. While Wisconsin hits a blistering .325 (compared to UK's .295), Kentucky holds opponents to just .180 hitting and scoops up nearly 15 digs per set.

The Badgers must stay patient and aggressive. They're elite at penetrating the opponent's block, having been stopped only 189.5 times all season. (In comparison, Kentucky has been blocked 241.5 times). If Colyer, Booth, and the Badgers can get through the block more than Hudson and DeLeye, the momentum shifts red.

Feed the Hot Hands

Setter Charlie Fuerbringer needs to continue her masterclass in distribution. Coming off a career-high 61 assists against Stanford, she has the keys. Balancing feeds between Colyer (outside) and Booth (middle) will be crucial to keeping the Wildcats off-balance. Booth has been automatic lately, hitting over .500 with zero errors in four of the last five matches.

The X-Factor?

While Colyer and Booth grab headlines, keep an eye on Una Vajagic. Fuerbringer calls her "the most underrated player in the whole NCAA," and the stats back it up. Vajagic hit .444 with 13 kills in the win over Stanford. If Kentucky over-commits to stopping the big names, Vajagic could be the one to step up.

On, Wisconsin!

Kentucky may be a No. 1 seed, but Wisconsin Volleyball is playing with a dangerous mix of momentum, talent, and belief. Fuerbringer said it best: "There are no underdogs in this thing. Everyone is giving their best volleyball."

The Badgers conquered the Cardinal and tamed the Longhorns, and now they have the Wildcats in their sights.

Big Ten Recognizes Fall Academic All-Big Ten Honorees

Full Fall 2025 Academic All-Big Ten List

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference recognized a total of 1,852 students on fall sports rosters who have been named to the All-Big Ten Team Wednesday, Dec. 10.

The list of honorees includes 134 field hockey students, 800 football students, 140 men’s and 201 women’s cross country students, 155 men’s and 276 women’s soccer students and 146 volleyball students.

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be on a varsity team (as verified by being on the official squad list as of Nov. 1 for fall sports), have been enrolled full time at the institution for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

Among the fall Academic All-Big Ten honorees, 65 had unblemished GPAs:

Seven Big Ten teams were among the latest AVCA/TARAFLEX Top 25: #1 Nebraska, #10 Wisconsin, #12 Purdue, #14 USC, #15 Indiana, #17 Minnesota and #25 Penn State. Michigan and UCLA are receiving votes.
In the most recent NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) rankings, five Big Ten schools were among the top 15, six in the top 25 and nine in the top 50 of the NCAA RPI report through games of Nov. 30. RPI rankings through games of Nov. 30: Nebraska 1; Wisconsin 11; Purdue 12; USC 13; Minnesota 14; Indiana 18; Penn State 32; UCLA 35 and Michigan 45.
The Big Ten leads all conferences with five teams advancing to the regional semifinals: Indiana, Nebraska, Minnesota, Purdue and Wisconsin. The Huskers will host the regional semifinal and final in Lincoln, while Indiana and Wisconsin head to Austin, Texas and Minnesota and Purdue travel to Pittsburgh.
Regional action begins on Thursday with Minnesota at Pittsburgh on ESPN2, followed by Purdue vs. SMU approximately 30 minutes after match one, also on ESPN2. The winners of each match will play in the regional final on Saturday, Dec. 13. Semifinal action continues on Friday with Indiana at Texas on ESPN at Noon, followed by Wisconsin vs. Stanford. Nebraska hosts Kansas on ESPN2 at 9:30 p.m. Winners of Friday’s matches will play again on Sunday, Dec. 14.
The Big Ten’s 14 wins through the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament are its most since 2016.
Indiana is making its first appearance in the NCAA regional semifinals since 2010 and just its second all-time. The Hoosiers are one of two teams (Cal Poly) playing this weekend that weren’t in the NCAA Tournament last year.
Minnesota is heading to its first Sweet 16 since 2022 and first under head coach Keegan Cook. It’s the Gophers’ ninth regional semifinal in the last 11 seasons.
Nebraska advanced to an NCAA regional for the 14th year in a row and the 41st time in program history. The Huskers’ 41 regional appearances are the most in NCAA history, while Nebraska’s 14 consecutive regional appearances rank second nationally. Nebraska’s 136-38 all-time NCAA Tournament record is second in NCAA history in postseason wins and winning percentage (.782).
Purdue advanced to its third straight regional semifinal and sixth in the last seven seasons following a pair of wins vs. Wright State and No. 6-seed Baylor. It will be the Boilermakers’ second matchup of the season against SMU, a team they beat in four sets on Sept. 14.
Wisconsin earned its 13th consecutive regional semifinal appearance and 23rd in program history.
46 Big Ten volleyball players were recognized on the AVCA All-Region Teams, announced on Tuesday. Nebraska led all schools with seven selections, including Bergen Reilly as the West Region Player of the Year and Dani Busboom Kelly as Coach of the Year. Purdue’s Kenna Wollard was named Midwest Region Player of the Year, while head coach Dave Shondell was the Midwest Region Coach of the Year. Indiana’s Teodora Kričković was named the Midwest Region Freshman of the Year. Out of the North Region, Wisconsin’s Mimi Colyer was selected as Player of the Year and Kelly Sheffield was tabbed as Coach of the Year. In the Northwest Region, Minnesota’s Julia Hanson was named Player of the Year and Gopher head coach Keegan Cook was named Coach of the Year.
At least one Big Ten program has reached the NCAA national semifinals (Final Four) in all but one year since 2007, with at least one member institution advancing to the NCAA national championship match 13 times in that 17-year span. Current Big Ten schools have won a total of 13 national championships (11 while members of the conference). Reilly becomes the first Nebraska player to be named Player and Setter of the Year and first since Minnesota’s Samantha Seliger-Swenson earned both honors in 2018. In her first season leading Nebraska, Busboom Kelly guided the Huskers to a 30-0 overall record and a 20-0 mark in conference play, culminating with the program’s sixth Big Ten Championship. Busboom Kelly became the first-ever Big Ten head coach to win a conference championship in their inaugural season. The Huskers remained atop the AVCA National Rankings throughout the entirety of the regular season and will be the No. 1 overall seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

Grimes has led the Penn State defense with 3.68 digs per set throughout the regular season and collected the fifth defensive honor for Penn State and first since 2019. Grimes has started 94 consecutive matches at libero for the Nittany Lions and ranks fourth in program history with 1,615 career digs. Grimes was selected to the All-Big Ten First Team.

Clemente becomes the first Oregon recipient of a Big Ten individual honor after a standout season that featured a team-leading 412 kills (3.89 kills/set) on a .269 hitting percentage, 51 service aces, 124 digs and 69.0 total blocks (0.65 blocks/set). Clemente was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice during the regular season and also earned a spot on the All-Big Ten First Team and All-Freshman Team.

Reilly was one of nine unanimous selections on the All-Big Ten First Team, joined by Husker teammates Andi Jackson and Harper Murray, Michigan’s Allison Jacobs, Minnesota’s Julia Hanson, Penn State’s Kennedy Martin, Purdue’s Kenna Wollard, USC’s London Wijay and Wisconsin’s Mimi Colyer.

The Big Ten recognized nine all-freshman selections and 18 Sportsmanship Award honorees. The student-athletes chosen for the sportsmanship award are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These student-athletes must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports competition setting.

Nine Big Ten Teams Selected for 2025 NCAA Volleyball Tournament

ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference will have nine schools participating in the 2025 NCAA Division I Volleyball Tournament, the NCAA announced during Sunday evening’s selection show. Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Penn State, Purdue, UCLA, USC and Wisconsin will represent the Big Ten in this year’s tournament, and the Huskers received the No. 1 overall seed after completing the regular season with the best record in Division I (30-0). The Big Ten’s nine postseason teams are second across all conferences, behind only the Big 12, which had 10 teams advance to the tournament.

The Huskers, making their 44^th straight NCAA Tournament appearance and hosting the first round for the 40^th time, will begin the postseason on Friday, Dec. 5 against Long Island, champions of the Northeast Conference.

For the 13^th-straight season and the 29^th time in program history, the Wisconsin Badgers earned a bid into this year’s tournament and were selected as a No. 3 seed. The Badgers will play Eastern Illinois on Thursday and will host the first and second rounds at the UW Field House.

Purdue embarks on its 11^th-straight and 37^th overall NCAA appearance, earning a No. 3 seed and will face Wright State in the first round on Thursday at Holloway Gymnasium. The winners of the Purdue/Wright State and Arkansas State/Baylor match will play in the NCAA Second Round on Friday in West Lafayette.

Minnesota was placed in the Pittsburgh region as a No. 4 seed and will host Fairfield on Friday, Dec. 5, at Maturi Pavilion. The 2025 selection marks the 11^th-straight and 30^th year overall that the Gophers have advanced to the NCAA tournament.

For the first time in 15 seasons, Indiana has advanced to the postseason. The Hoosiers were selected as a No. 4 seed, and for just the second time in program history, will host the opening two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Indiana opens the postseason on Thursday against MAC tournament champions and first-time NCAA qualifier, Toledo.

USC will make its fourth-straight (41^st all-time) appearance in the postseason tournament, taking on Princeton in the first round on Thursday. For the first time since 2018, USC will host NCAA matches at the Galen Center, earning a No. 4 seed, the highest seed assigned to the Women of Troy since 2018.

Michigan heads to the postseason for the first time since 2021 and the 21^st time overall. The Wolverines will face Xavier in the first round on Friday at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh. The NCAA appearance marks Michigan’s first under head coach Erin Virtue.

Penn State continues its postseason streak, advancing to every single NCAA volleyball tournament since it began in 1981. The Nittany Lions begin their 45^th postseason appearance against South Florida on Friday, Dec. 5, in Austin, Texas.

No. 8-seed UCLA will head to Lexington, Ky., to take on Georgia Tech in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Bruins return to the postseason for the first time since 2021, earning their first NCAA tournament appearance under head coach Alfee Reft and 39^th overall.

At least one Big Ten program has reached the NCAA national semifinals (Final Four) in all but one year since 2007, with at least one member institution advancing to the NCAA national championship match 13 times in that 17-year span. Current Big Ten schools have won a total of 13 national championships (11 while members of the conference). Penn State is the reigning National Champion with the Big Ten winning six of the past 12 National Championships (Penn State 3; Nebraska 2; Wisconsin 1).

In this week’s NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) rankings, five Big Ten schools are in the top 15, six in the top 25 and nine in the top 50 of the NCAA RPI report through games of Nov. 24. Six of the 14 2025 AVCA Division I Player of the Year semifinalists hail from the Big Ten. No. 1 Nebraska clinched the outright Big Ten title with a pair of wins against Iowa and No. 17 Indiana last week. Nebraska has won six Big Ten titles, and it is the first time since 2004-08 that the Huskers have won three straight conference titles. Nebraska’s six league championships are the most by any team since joining the conference in 2011 and head coach Dani Busboom Kelly is the first head coach in Big Ten history to win the conference title in their first season. The Huskers’ 28-0 start to a season is the third-best in program history. Nebraska will be the Big Ten’s automatic qualifier in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
The Hoosiers will have a chance at program history this week on the road. With just one victory, they will match a single-season school record for wins (23) during the NCAA era. With two wins, Indiana would break the single-season program record for victories (24)
Penn State head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley notched her 100th career win at Penn State on Friday.
Purdue will play a pair of ranked opponents in its final week of the regular season. The Boilermakers visit No. 18 Minnesota on Wednesday and conclude Big Ten play vs. No. 15 Indiana inside Mackey Arena on Saturday.
Wisconsin extended its win streak to seven with sweeps over No. 11 Purdue and Iowa last week. Wisconsin has now won 16-straight sets against its opponents. Against Iowa, Wisconsin hit a season-best .510, accumulating 61 kills in just three sets - tying a program record for most kills in a three-set match.

ROSEMONT, Ill. - No. 1-ranked Nebraska has clinched at least a share of the Big Ten Volleyball Championship with a 3-0 win over Iowa on Thursday at John Cook Arena at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Neb. It's the sixth Big Ten title for the Huskers and third consecutive. It’s also the first time Nebraska has won three consecutive conference titles since 2004-08 in the Big 12.

Nebraska improved to 27-0 overall and 17-0 in Big Ten play, earning its 22^nd 3-0 victory of the season. Nebraska can claim the outright title with a win at No. 17 Indiana on Saturday. First serve between the Hoosiers and Huskers is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET on B1G+.

Indiana went 2-0 last week and matched the program record with 12 Big Ten wins in a single season. The Hoosiers also matched the program record for single season wins with 21.
Michigan has won four matches in a row and seven of its last eight matches. The Wolverines are receiving votes for the third straight week and are #35 in the latest RPI rankings.
Oregon notched its first top 10 road win since 2023 with a 3-2 victory at then-No. 9 Purdue on Saturday. It’s the Ducks’ third ranked win of the season.
Wednesday’s match between Wisconsin and Purdue marks the 12th consecutive match in which the two programs are both ranked.
Playing host to No. 1 Nebraska, UCLA and USC each set program attendance records at their respective venues. UCLA set the Pauley Pavilion volleyball record with 10,498 fans and USC welcomed 9,072 fans to the Galen Center, a school record for women’s volleyball for the Trojans.
Nebraska has been included in attendance records at 12 of the 18 Big Ten facilities over the last three seasons.
UCLA snapped Nebraska’s 48-set win streak in a 3-1 loss for the Bruins at Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins are the first and only Big Ten team this season to win a set against Nebraska.
The Huskers and Badgers are No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, nationally in terms of hitting percentage. Nebraska’s .348 efficiency leads the nation, followed by the Badgers, who are hitting at a .308 clip. Purdue (.13th - .289), Indiana (14th - .289), Michigan (14th - .284) and Minnesota (20th - .278) are also among the top 25.

Both will be hosted in Indianapolis next month and recognized on the field during the 2025 Discover Big Ten Football Championship Game at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday, December 6 (8pm ET; FOX).

Jackie Robinson was a standout student-athlete at UCLA, where he was the school’s first four-sport letter winner, excelling in football, basketball, track and field, and baseball. Beyond his athletic prowess, he continues to be recognized and honored for his contributions off the field: integrating Major League Baseball and his lifelong commitment to social justice. Six of the 14 2025 AVCA Division I Player of the Year semifinalists hail from the Big Ten. The list includes Nebraska’s Andi Jackson, Harper Murray and Bergen Reilly, Penn State’s Kennedy Martin, Purdue’s Kenna Wollard and Wisconsin’s Mimi Colyer. The finalists will be revealed on Dec. 15 and the announcement of the Player of the Year will be in Kansas City at the AVCA Awards Banquet on Friday, Dec. 19.
BTN will broadcast a pair of Big Ten matchups on Friday, starting with No. 24 Penn State at No. 20 Minnesota at 8 p.m., followed by No. 1 Nebraska at RV UCLA. All additional conference matches will be available on B1G+.
Should Indiana win against Oregon and Maryland this weekend, the Hoosiers would tie a program single-season record for regular season wins (21) and Big Ten wins (12). Indiana is just one win away from its seventh 20-win season in program history and second under head coach Steve Aird.
Michigan State improved to 18-6 overall and 8-6 in Big Ten play, having now totaled the most wins in a season since 2017 (24-9), with six matches remaining. The Spartans won back-to-back Big Ten matches for the first time this season with a win at Washington and Oregon last week.
Nebraska picked up its 15th sweep in a row vs. Minnesota on Saturday. It was Nebraska’s first-ever sweep at Minnesota since the best-of-five format began in 1982. The Huskers improved to 14-0 in Big Ten play and 24-0 overall and have not dropped a single set since a 3-2 win at Creighton on Sept. 16. The Huskers are 9-0 against ranked opponents this season.
The Huskers lead the nation in hitting percentage (.348) and opponent hitting percentage (.122). Led by Bergen Reilly, who is averaging 10.26 assists per set, Nebraska has hit over .300 in 15 straight matches. Nebraska’s .488 hitting percentage against Illinois last week was its best since 2018. Andi Jackson is second in the country in terms of hitting percentage (.449), followed by Rebekah Allick, who is 11th nationally, hitting at a .427 clip.
Purdue is off to its best start in Big Ten play ever under head coach Dave Shondell. The Boilermakers picked up two more wins this past weekend against then-No. 25 Penn State and Iowa, improving to 12-2 in conference action and 21-3 overall. Purdue’s win against Penn State marked its seventh ranked victory of the 2025 campaign, the fifth time in program history that Purdue has posted at least seven wins against ranked opponents in a single season.
USC’s eight-match win streak is the team’s longest of the season and is the longest conference win streak under head coach Brad Keller.
Wisconsin earned a pair of ranked victories last week, with a 3-0 win vs. No. 18 Indiana and a 3-1 win vs. then-No. 22 Minnesota.

Indiana improved to 9-3 in Big Ten play with its first-ever road win at Penn State on Sunday. Indiana moved up six spots in this week’s AVCA poll to No. 18, its highest ranking in program history. Indiana has won three-straight matches, all of them in three sets. It’s the first time since 1990 that the Hoosiers have swept three straight Big Ten opponents.
The Huskers improved to 22-0 and 12-0 in Big Ten play with a pair of sweeps over No. 11 Wisconsin and Oregon. Nebraska has won 40 sets in a row, has swept 13 matches in a row and is the only undefeated program in the nation, receiving all 61 first-place votes in this week’s AVCA poll.
Offensively, the Huskers have hit better than .300 in 13 straight matches, a school record in the rally-scoring era. Nebraska leads the nation in terms of hitting percentage, hitting at a .339 efficiency throughout its 22 matches.
Purdue’s three reverse sweeps this season are the most in program history for the Boilermakers. Purdue moved up one spot in this week’s AVCA poll to No. 9, its highest ranking in 2025.
USC enters the week on a season-long, six-match win streak heading into the final four weeks of the regular season.

The Big Ten Conference and Big Ten Network (BTN) announced a newly created In-Season Volleyball Challenge. Partnering with Discover®, the official credit card of the Big Ten Conference, the inaugural Discover In-Season Volleyball Challenge will debut during the 2025 regular season conference schedule, starting Oct. 1, encompassing all 18 Big Ten Volleyball programs. Select conference matches played during the month of October will count toward the Discover In-Season Volleyball Challenge. Each team will play five designated challenge matches throughout the month, with the winner determined by the highest win total across the five games. Designated matches for the Challenge will be noted on the adjacent schedule.
The Big Ten | Discover In-Season Volleyball Challenge concludes this Friday, October 31. Nebraska and Purdue remain atop the Challenge standings at 4-0. To conclude Challenge play, Nebraska visits Wisconsin on Friday for a nationally ranked televised matchup at the UW Field House and Purdue heads to Michigan State for a 7 p.m. ET first serve on B1G+. Tiebreaking procedures will be used if two or more teams have identical records at the conclusion of the Challenge.
The Big Ten Network will carry a tripleheader on Friday, starting with Penn State at Michigan at 6:30 p.m. ET, followed by Nebraska at Wisconsin at 9 p.m. ET. The Big Ten Conference and Big Ten Network (BTN) announced a newly created In-Season Volleyball Challenge. Partnering with Discover®, the official credit card of the Big Ten Conference, the inaugural Discover In-Season Volleyball Challenge will debut during the 2025 regular season conference schedule, starting Oct. 1, encompassing all 18 Big Ten Volleyball programs. Select conference matches played during the month of October will count toward the Discover In-Season Volleyball Challenge. Each team will play five designated challenge matches throughout the month, with the winner determined by the highest win total across the five games. Designated matches for the challenge will be noted on the adjacent schedule.
The Big Ten | Discover In-Season Volleyball Challenge concludes next Friday, October 31. As of Wednesday, Nebraska (3-0) and Purdue (3-0) sit atop the standings. Nebraska hosts Northwestern on Friday and visits Wisconsin on Halloween for its final pair of Challenge matches. Purdue heads to Illinois on Friday and Michigan State next Friday to conclude its October slate. Tiebreaking procedures will be used in the event that two or more teams have matching records at the conclusion of the Challenge.
Eight Big Ten volleyball programs were among this week’s AVCA/TARAFLEX Top 25, announced on Monday: #1 Nebraska, #11 Purdue, #12 Wisconsin, #18 Penn State, #20 Minnesota, #22 USC, #23 Indiana, #25 UCLA. Illinois is receiving votes in this week’s poll. Eight Big Ten teams are among the latest top 25 in terms of RPI: #2 Nebraska, #10 Purdue, #13 Indiana, #14 Minnesota, #16 Wisconsin, #19 Penn State, #21 USC and #22 Illinois.
The NCAA DI women’s volleyball selection committee announced its in-season top 16 rankings on Sunday. Six Big Ten programs are among the 16, including: #1 Nebraska, #8 Purdue, #12 Wisconsin, #14 Indiana, #15 Penn State and #16 Minnesota.
Nebraska’s Andi Jackson and USC’s Taylor Deckert were each named to Michella Chester’s Starting Rotation for Week 8. Jackson was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Monday and Deckert was selected as this week’s Freshman of the Week.
Purdue head coach Dave Shondell and associate head coach-recruiting coordinator Kathy Jewell reached their 500th win with the program as Purdue swept Rutgers on Sunday. The win puts Shondell 12 wins away from tying Gene Keady as Purdue Athletics’ all-time leader in wins (512).
The Michigan vs. Nebraska match on Sunday set a program attendance record for the Wolverines, with 12,707 fans. It also set an attendance record for the most-attended match in the state of Michigan. Michigan State also set a program record, welcoming the Huskers in front of 11,578 fans at the Breslin Center.
For the first time since Oct. 3, 1997, a top-25 volleyball match will be played in Bloomington as No. 23 Indiana hosts No. 20 Minnesota on Friday on Big Ten Network.
As of Wednesday, Nebraska (.332) and Wisconsin (.310) lead the nation at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in terms of hitting percentage. Indiana is eighth (.292), followed by Purdue at #12 (.287), Minnesota at #20 (.275) and Michigan at #23 (.272).

Penn State’s Kennedy Martin was named the AVCA National Player of the Week on Tuesday after earning Big Ten Player of the Week honors on Monday for the third time in 2025. The Nittany Lions went 2-0 last week, highlighted by a sweep of No. 7 Wisconsin at Rec Hall and a four-set win against Northwestern. Martin hit .438 while averaging 7.36 points, 6.71 kills, 2.14 digs and 0.71 blocks per set over the two wins. It’s the second-straight week that a Big Ten player has received the national honor and the fourth time this season.
Nebraska’s Harper Murray, Penn State’s Martin and UCLA’s Marianna Singletary each earned a spot on Michella Chester’s Starting Rotation for Week 7. The trio also earned Big Ten weekly recognition on Monday.
UCLA finds itself back in the AVCA Top 25 (#23) after a pair of ranked sweeps last week over No. 14 Minnesota and No. 22 USC.
Indiana hosts Purdue at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Thursday for a 7 p.m. ET first serve on Big Ten Network. It’s the first volleyball match in the history of Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Indiana and Purdue are each among the top 12 in the latest RPI and will meet as nationally ranked opponents for the first time in matchup history.
As of Wednesday, Kennedy Martin is fourth in the country, averaging 5.24 kills per set, followed by Wisconsin’s Mimi Colyer at fifth with 5.11 kills per set. Martin is also second nationally with 5.97 points per set and eighth nationally with 304 total kills.
Nebraska leads the country in hitting percentage (.327), with Wisconsin (3rd, .324) and Indiana (6th, .299) also among the top six nationally. The Huskers are second across Division I with a .109 opponent hitting percentage.

Seven Big Ten volleyball programs were among this week’s AVCA/TARAFLEX Top 25, announced on Monday: #1 Nebraska, #7 Wisconsin, #12 Purdue, #14 Minnesota, #19 Penn State, #20 Indiana and #22 USC. UCLA and Illinois are receiving votes in this week’s poll.
Indiana, Nebraska and Wisconsin remain undefeated in Big Ten play through two weeks. Nebraska (14-0) is one of just two teams nationally (Texas, 12-0) that boast an unblemished overall record.
After picking up a pair of ranked wins in Los Angeles, the Hoosiers made their first appearance in the AVCA/Taraflex Top 25 since 2010. The No. 20 national ranking is also the highest in program history. Indiana is enjoying its best start to Big Ten play in 40 years. The Hoosiers are 4-0 in the conference for the first time since 1985 and will head to Michigan and Michigan State this weekend as conference play continues.
Nebraska is first nationally in opponent hitting percentage at .102. The Huskers led the nation in opponent hitting percentage in 2022 and 2023 and were sixth in 2024.
Four Big Ten teams are in the top eight nationally in hitting percentage: Wisconsin (2nd, .333), Nebraska (3rd, .327), Indiana (4th, .311) and Minnesota (8th, .295).
Purdue’s Kenna Wollard was named AVCA National Player of the Week on Tuesday. Wollard led the Big Ten in kills (49) last week, including a 33-kill outing on an efficient .369 hitting percentage at No. 24 UCLA. Wollard led the Boilermakers to a sweep at USC, totaling 16 kills and three blocks.
The Nebraska-Penn State match on Friday averaged 1.05 million viewers on FOX and became the second most-watched match in network history.
The Nebraska-Rutgers match on Saturday set an attendance record with 8,000 fans at Jersey Mike’s Arena, making it the most-watched volleyball match in the state of New Jersey.
NBC will carry its first of two Big Ten matches this season on Saturday as UCLA hosts USC at 3 p.m. ET. NBC is also set to broadcast Nebraska at Minnesota on Nov. 8 at 3:30 p.m. ET.

CHICAGO, Ill. – Allstate, the Big Ten Conference and Big Ten Network (BTN) today announced the creation of the Allstate Big Ten Women’s Championship Series, a new competition designed to spotlight and celebrate excellence in women’s athletics across the conference. The championship series is part of a first-of-its kind, multi-year partnership that establishes Allstate as the Official Insurance Partner of the Big Ten Conference and reflects Allstate’s 20-year legacy of supporting college athletics.

With the partnership:

The Allstate Big Ten Women’s Championship Series will be created. This year-long competition among Big Ten schools is designed to highlight excellence across women’s athletics, with schools earning points based on their teams’ performance in regular and postseason play. At the end of the academic year, the school with the highest point total will be recognized as the overall champion.
Allstate becomes the title sponsor of the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament, taking place March 4-8 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Allstate will present all 12 Big Ten Women’s Olympic Sports championships and tournaments, including soccer, gymnastics and softball.
Allstate will sponsor On The Pitch , BTN’s new series spotlighting women’s soccer stories across the conference.
