Tony Buyniski

Senior Director, Officiating Technology & Services

Tony Buyniski is in his 10th year at the Big Ten Conference and second in his current role as senior director, officiating technology and services. From 2013-18, he served as the conference's director of video services, and from 2019-20 he served as assistant commissioner, officiating services.

Buyniski oversees all components of officiating technology and video operations for the Big Ten, including football, men’s basketball, and ice hockey. Buyniski is responsible for oversight of the conference’s standardized instant replay systems in nine different sports, in-game officiating technology, post-game video analysis and officiating statistical breakdowns. He continues to work on enhancing technology and video support provided to all the conference’s sports and officiating coordinators.

Buyniski also has served as secretary of the collegiate officiating consortium since 2019, in which the Big Ten partners with other collegiate athletic conferences for identification, training, development, and the assignment of officials for the sports of football, men’s and women's basketball.

Buyniski joined the Big Ten after working as video assistant with the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals during the 2012 season. Buyniski was also the head video coordinator for the University of Illinois football team from 2011-12 and spent a total of five years assisting the Fighting Illini.

Prior to Illinois, he was a student assistant football coach & head video coordinator at Carthage College from 2002-06. The native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Buyniski earned his bachelor's degree from Carthage College in 2004, and completed work on his master's degree from Carthage in 2006.

Buyniski is married to the former Katie Daniels. The couple has two children, Caroline and JT, and they reside in Munster, Indiana.
