The sweep of Stanford was the first sweep over a top two team at home in program history and the first three-set win over Stanford since 2008.</li><li>Minnesota is first in the Big Ten and 11th nationally, averaging 17.29 digs/set. The Gophers have held opponents under .200 hitting for the last seven straight matches.&nbsp;</li><li>On Friday, Sept. 20 against Troy, Sarah Franklin surpassed the 500 career digs milestone and has now surpassed 1,500 kills and 500 digs in her career. Franklin joins just two other Badgers who have achieved this feat: Amy Lee (1994-97) and Brittany Dolgner (2006-09).</li><li>Washington finished its non-conference slate a perfect 10-0, just one of seven teams across Division I with an unblemished record. The last time the Huskies went 10-0 in non-conference play, they went on to win the Pac-12 Conference Championship and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies have received votes for four straight weeks in the AVCA top 25 poll and are the second team out of the top 25. Washington closes its non-conference slate at Long Beach State and vs. Pepperdine this week.</li><li>Wisconsin outside hitter Sarah Franklin set a new program record for most kills in a single match with 33 kills in a 3-1 win vs. Marquette on Tuesday at the Kohl Center.&nbsp; The record was previously held by Dana Rettke from 2018. Franklin hit .517 (33-2-60) on the night and surpassed 1,500 kills with her fifth kill of the evening. Franklin’s 33 kills were the most in any Big Ten match this season.&nbsp;</li><li>As of Monday, Sept. 16, Penn State is just one of four teams in the country with at least three wins over ranked opponents this season. UCLA and Washington received votes in this week’s poll.&nbsp;</li><li>No 3. Penn State sees its highest ranking in Katie Schumacher-Cawley’s three seasons as head coach. The Nittany Lions went 3-0 in week two with wins over No. 3 Louisville (3-0), then-No. 9 Kentucky (3-2) and Ball State (3-0).&nbsp;</li><li>After starting the 2024 season with four matches on the road, No. 23 USC hosts No. 1 Pittsburgh on Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET on Big Ten Network. It will be the first time USC has faced the nation’s top-ranked team since a December meeting with No. 1 Baylor in 2019.&nbsp;</li><li>No. 6 Wisconsin hosts RV Marquette on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at the 17,000 seat Kohl Center&nbsp; in Madison, Wis. The match will air live on BTN at 8 p.m. ET.&nbsp;</li><li>Additional ranked or TV matchups this week include No. 5 Nebraska vs. No. 14 Arizona State on Big Ten Network on Friday, No. 12 Oregon at No. 17 BYU on Friday and No. 3 Penn State vs. Duke on FS1 on Friday. Purdue will play either RV SMU or No. 10 Kentucky on Saturday as part of the SMU Doubletree Invitational in Dallas, Texas. &nbsp;</li><li>The Big Ten has four setters in the top 10 in the nation who are all averaging over 11 assists/set. Purdue’s Taylor Anderson is third in the NCAA averaging 11.85 assists/set, Oregon’s Christin Cline is fifth with 11.53 assists/set, USC’s Mia Tuaniga is sixth with 11.47 assists/set and Nebraska’s Bergen Reilly is ninth averaging 11.16 assists per set. &nbsp;</li><li>Purdue is currently leading the Big Ten and is second in the nation, averaging 3.65 blocks/set. Raven Colvin leads the Conference with 44 blocks on the season and is second nationally averaging 2.20 blocks/set.&nbsp;</li><li>Minnesota’s Melani Shaffmaster became the first Gopher since Sarah Wilhite in 2014 to register a triple-double, tallying 10 kills (career-high), 47 assists and 21 digs in a five set loss to TCU on Saturday.&nbsp;</li><li>Ohio State’s Emily Londot is the fourth player in Ohio State volleyball history to reach 2,000 career points. Londot is third in Buckeye’s program history with 1,804 total kills, a number good enough to lead active career leaders in all of NCAA Division I.&nbsp;</li><li>Penn State’s Izzy Starck was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week after guiding the Nittany Lions to a pair of ranked wins last week. Starck is the first Penn State freshman to earn the honor in back-to-back weeks to open their college career since Ali Frantti did in 2014.&nbsp;</li><li>Washington posted 20 blocks in a reverse sweep at Colorado on Sunday. It was the most blocks for the Huskies in a single match since 2014. Washington remains perfect on the season (5-0) and will host Washington State on Friday for its home opener and first appearance on the Big Ten Network (10 p.m. ET).&nbsp;</li></ul>

Illinois, Michigan State, Purdue and Penn State Claim Big Ten Weekly Volleyball Awards

Penn State at Tennessee drew 6,193 fans to Knoxville, Tenn.&nbsp;</li><li>ESPN’s coverage of last week’s AVCA Showcase match between #2 Nebraska and #9 Kentucky drew 344,000 viewers, making it the second most-watched live regular-season volleyball match to air on any ESPN platform.&nbsp;</li><li>#18 Minnesota topped two-time defending National Champion and No. 1 ranked Texas in five sets at the State Farm Volleyball Showcase at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wis., on Monday. It was the Gophers’ first win over the Longhorns since 2017 and their first over a No. 1 ranked opponent since Sept. 14, 2019 against then-No. 1 Stanford. Melani Shaffmaster surpassed 4,000 career assists, just the 8th Gopher in program history to reach the milestone.&nbsp;</li><li>Purdue’s Eva Hudson was named the AVCA National Player of the Week on Tuesday. She’s the sixth Boilermaker to receive the honor and first since Grace Cleveland did in 2021. Hudson produced a Big Ten-leading 46 kills and 50.5 points behind a .352 hitting percentage, helping Purdue to a 3-0 start in the opening week. Hudson was also named Big Ten Player of the Week and the Stacey Clark Classic Most Valuable Player.&nbsp;</li><li>Oregon’s Colby Neal posted a career-high 13 kills vs. Long Beach State on Sunday, helping the Ducks to a 3-0 sweep and their first win of 2024. Neal’s .929 hitting percentage (13-0-14) established a new program single-match record for Oregon.</li><li>After receiving votes in the preseason top-25 polls, UCLA made a statement in its season-opener, taking down No. 14 Georgia Tech in five sets on Friday night. The Bruins went on to sweep Coastal Carolina capping a perfect opening weekend at the GT Invitational. UCLA will face another ranked opponent on Thursday at No. 17 Tennessee on the SEC Network.</li><li>A top 10 matchup inside Rec Hall resulted in a 3-0 sweep for No. 7 Penn State over No. 4 Louisville on Tuesday night. The Nittany Lions held the Cardinals to a .091 hitting percentage, while Penn State put down 45 kills with a .358%.
