Autonomy Conference Commissioners Statement on College Sports Roundtable Hosted by President Trump
WASHINGTON – Autonomy Conference Commissioners Tony Petitti (Big Ten), Jim Phillips, Ph.D. (ACC), Brett Yormark (Big 12), and Greg Sankey (SEC), released the following statement after joining President Donald Trump at the White House for a College Sports Roundtable to discuss federal solutions to the challenges facing collegiate athletics:
“We thank President Trump and his administration for convening today’s roundtable, as it is an important step towards preserving the athletic and academic opportunities for the next generation of student-athletes. Policies that ensure continued elevated benefits for student-athletes, establish fair and national competition, protect women’s and Olympic programs, preserve college sports’ educational mission, and enact clear, enforceable rules must be prioritized. The bipartisan SCORE Act is a great first step towards meeting each of these policy goals that are critical to stabilize collegiate athletics. We are grateful to have shared our perspectives on these issues directly during today’s discussion. Federal action on college sports is long overdue, and we stand with a broad coalition of conferences, student-athletes, coaches, and advocates in supporting the SCORE Act. We look forward to working with both President Trump and Congress to enact meaningful reform for student-athletes across the country.”
