Maryland Wins 2022 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Maryland won the 2022 NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championship after defeating Cornell, 9-7, Monday afternoon at Pratt and Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut.
The Terrapins became the first team in NCAA lacrosse history to finish 18-0, and the first team to go undefeated since Virginia in 2006.
The NCAA title is the fourth for Maryland and second under head coach John Tillman after previously winning the championship in 2017. Tillman has led the Terrapins to six of the last 11 NCAA finals.
Cornell scored first, with CJ Kirst’s goal at 7:28 in the first quarter. Maryland’s Eric Malever evened the score at 1-1 less than two minutes later, and the Terrapins never looked back. Anthony DeMaio led Maryland with four goals and added an assist, and Logan McNaney recorded 17 saves.
The Big Ten has had at least one team in five of the last seven NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship finals, the most of any conference.
