ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced Thursday that Diane Dietz will return to the conference to develop and implement strategic initiatives that impact the conference and intercollegiate athletics in addition to providing support for business and operational communications. Dietz will resume the title of deputy commissioner and report to Commissioner Petitti.

“Diane is a talented executive who served the Big Ten Conference for over a decade during a remarkable time in collegiate athletics,” stated Commissioner Petitti. “I look forward to having her veteran insights and guidance on the team.”

Dietz served in vital roles for the conference during her tenure including senior strategic advisor to the commissioner (2021-22), deputy commissioner (2014-21) and chief communications officer (2010-13). As a former Big Ten women’s basketball player, she was inducted into the University of Michigan’s Hall of Honor and set the Wolverines' career scoring record during her time in Ann Arbor and remains No. 4 on the program’s all-time scoring list.

“I am thrilled to be back at the Big Ten Conference and look forward to the opportunity to work with Commissioner Petitti,” stated Dietz. “I have tremendous pride in the conference, its member institutions and its dedicated administrators and coaches from whom I have learned so much. I continue to marvel at the commitment, perseverance and resilience of the 10,000 plus student-athletes who attend Big Ten member institutions. It is a privilege to watch them compete and grow.”

Prior to joining the conference office in 2010, Dietz served as chief marketing and community relations officer at Cranbrook Educational Community in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and as senior vice president for the Comcast Foundation and senior director of public affairs at Comcast Corporation in Philadelphia, Pa. Prior to that she practiced law for eight years in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
