Maryland, Ohio State, Iowa Receive Weekly Baseball Awards
Jones II (MD), Domke (OSU) and Alivo (IOWA) claim last honors of the season
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its baseball weekly awards for games played May 11-17, 2026.
Player of the Week
Paul Jones II, Maryland
So. – 1B/DH – Burnsville, Minn. – Cretin-Derham Hall
- Rewrote the Maryland record book in the Terrapin’s 21-6 run-rule win over Georgetown on May 12
- Hit two grand slams and a three-run homer for 11 RBI, setting a school single-game RBI record that was one shy of the Big Ten mark; his three home runs tied a program record
- Finished the week with a .571 batting average, 1.429 slugging percentage and 2.076 OPS
- The second-year starter has 12 hits over his last six games
- Second Terrapin this year to be named Player of Week, joining Devin Russell (April 13)
Pitcher of the Week
Chris Domke, Ohio State
Jr. – S-RHP – North Royalton, Ohio – Youngstown State (NCAA)
- Became the first Ohio State pitcher to throw a nine-inning complete game in five years
- Facing arch-rival Michigan on the road, Domke allowed one run and three hits, holding the Wolverines to a .103 batting average.
- Fanned six batters and walked one to earn the win in an 8-1 decision on Saturday
- His performance completed Ohio State’s first road sweep of Michigan since 1994
- Last Buckeye chosen Big Ten Pitcher of the Week: Blaine Wynk (March 31, 2025)
Freshman of the Week
Kyle Alivo, Iowa
R-Fr. – R-RHP – Franklin, Wis. – St. Thomas More
- Kick started Iowa’s weekend sweep of Purdue by recording a save in a 10-7 win on Thursday
- After Purdue rallied from a 5-0 deficit to take a 7-6 lead, Alivo entered in the fifth inning and held the Boilermakers to one run the rest of the way
- Struck out nine batters with no walks allowed over five innings and posted a 0.80 WHIP
- Becomes first Hawkeye to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week recognition this season
