Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and Purdue Take Home Baseball Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its baseball weekly awards for games played March 4-10.

Player of the Week

Rhett Stokes, Nebraska

Jr. – IF — Roswell, N.M. — New Mexico Military Institute

  • Batted .750 (9-for-12) as Nebraska took two of three games from South Alabama in Lincoln, Neb.

  • Compiled a 1.833 OPS with a 1.083 slugging percentage and .750 on-base percentage

  • Fielding at third base and at second, produced three hits in three straight games

  • The junior college transfer receives his first Big Ten Player award

  • Last Nebraska Player of the Week: Max Anderson (April 10, 2023)

Pitcher of the Week

Cade Obermueller, Iowa

So. – S-LHP — Iowa City, Iowa — City High

  • Took a no-hitter into the sixth inning against Jacksonville State on March 9

  • Earned the win, striking out nine batters over a career-high 5.2 innings

  • Allowed just two hits, holding the Jaguars to a .118 batting average

  • The second-year Hawkeye earns his first Big Ten weekly honor

  • Last Iowa Pitcher of the Week: Brody Brecht (May 22, 2023)

Co-Freshman of the Week

Kyle Remington, Minnesota

Fr. – R-RHP — Grand Rapids, Mich. — Grand Rapids Christian

  • Made two relief appearances in Minnesota’s road games at Pacific and Gonzaga

  • Fanned half the batters he faced, striking out six in 3.1 innings of shutout ball

  • Gave up two hits, holding opponents to a .167 batting average

  • Collects his first Big Ten Freshman weekly honor

  • Last Minnesota Freshman of the Week: Weber Neels (May 22, 2023)

Co-Freshman of the Week

Luke Gaffney, Purdue

Fr. – 1B — Danville, Ky. — Boyle County

  • Amassed a slash line of .471/.550/.765 as Purdue went 4-1 on the week and completed its first four-game sweep at Alexander Field

  • Reach base in 11 of his 16 plate appearances against visiting Albany

  • Finished the week with 10 RBI, three multiple-hit games and 31 putouts at first base

  • Has earned three Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards a month into the season
