OMAHA, Neb. — The 2024 Big Ten Tournament Presented by IFS.ai commenced Tuesday as two games were completed despite delays caused by storms.
When the clouds cleared, No. 3 seed Indiana began tournament action with an 8-6 victory over No. 6 seed Purdue.
The Hoosiers (31-22-1) led 8-1 after six innings before Purdue closed the gap with five runs over the last two frames. Freshman Jasen Oliver finished a triple shy of a cycle as all but one Hoosier in the lineup produced hits.
Keenan Taylor and Jo Stevens both went 3-for-5 for the Boilermakers (33-23), who meet Nebraska tomorrow at 7 p.m. in an elimination game.
Ohio State handed Nebraska a 15-2 run-rule loss in the nightcap.
The Buckeyes (29-24) batted around in the fourth, scoring eight runs to blow the game open. Leadoff man Trey Lipsey recorded three hits while teammate Matthew Graveline scored three times.
OSU's run total was the most in the tournament since Michigan put 15 on the board against Maryland in 2022. Ohio State has the day off tomorrow before taking on Indiana on Thursday at 2 p.m. CT.
