Indiana, Iowa and Penn State Receive Weekly Baseball Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its baseball weekly awards for games played May 13-19.

Player of the Week
Devin Taylor, Indiana
So. – OF — Cincinnati, Ohio — LaSalle

• Compiled a slash of .636/.714/1.545 and a 2.260 OPS over three games last week
• Went 7-for-11 with three home runs and seven RBI on the weekend in helping Indiana take two of three games against Michigan
• Enters the Big Ten Tournament having homered in five of his last six games
• The 2023 Big Ten Freshman of the Year earns his second weekly Player award of the season and his career

Pitcher of the Week
Cade Obermueller, Iowa
So. – S-LHP — Iowa City, Iowa. — City High

• Tossed five innings of shutout ball to earn the win in Iowa’s 15-2 run-rule decision over Florida International May 17 in Iowa City
• Struckout seven batters and allowed just one hit while recording a WHIP of 0.40
• Threw 68 pitches in his 12th start of the year, lowering his opponent batting average to .189 on the season
• The second-year Hawkeye earns his second Big Ten weekly honor of the season and of his career

Freshman of the Week
Mason Horwat, Penn State
Fr. – R-RHP — Pittsburgh, Pa. — Avonworth

• Picked up a win and a save in two relief appearances to help Penn State sweep Maryland and clinch a spot in the Big Ten Tournament
• Worked seven shutout innings, allowing three hits, to improve to 4-1 on the year
• Pitched four shutout frames in the series opener, retiring the side in the eighth and ninth; came back the next day to pitch three scoreless innings to close out a 6-5 victory in 10 innings.
• Earns his first Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor
