The Big Ten Conference went 3-0 on the opening day of the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Maryland improved to 5-0 on the postseason with a 7-2 victory over Northeastern at the Winston-Salem Regional being held at Couch Ballpark.

The 19th-ranked Terrapins (42-19) were led by Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player Nick Lorusso, who tied a school record with his 24th home run of the season while also becoming the first Big Ten player to surpass 100 RBI in a season. Starter Wyatt Scotti earned the win, holding the Huskies to three hits over five innings.

Maryland will face top-ranked Wake Forest in the winners' bracket on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET.


TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Making its first NCAA appearance since 2017, Iowa held off North Carolina, 5-4, at Bob Warn Field at the Terre Haute Regional. The Tar Heels scored three times in the ninth before Iowa reliever Luke Llewellyn closed the door with back-to-back strikeouts to earn the save.

Iowa (43-14) scored twice in the opening frame and received multiple-hit efforts from Kyle Huckstorf and Brayden Frazier.

The Hawkeyes will meet 14th-ranked Indiana State at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday.


LEXINGTON, K.y. -- Indiana bats came alive in a 12-6 win over West Virginia at the Lexington Regional at Kentucky Proud Park.

The Hoosiers (42-18) broke open a one-run game by pushing five runs across in the top ninth. Bobby Whalen and Carter Mathison scored three times for Indiana, who received 12 strikeouts from its three pitchers on the evening.

Indiana encounters 12th-ranked Kentucky Saturday at 6 p.m. ET.
