Maryland, Michigan State, Northwestern Presented Weekly Baseball Awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Big Ten Conference has announced its baseball weekly awards for games played May 6-11.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ryan Kucherak, Northwestern (pronounced: koo-cher-ack)
So. — SS — Chandler, Ariz. — LSU (NCAA)

• Recorded a slash line of .600/.733/1.300 in three conference games as Northwestern claimed its first series win against Ohio State since 2019
• Hit a walk-off, two-run single Friday in Northwestern’s 12-2 run-rule win at Wrigley Field
• Mashed two home runs Saturday in a 17-2 victory, moving into a second-place tie on NU’s single-season home runs list (15)
• Generated a 2.033 OPS while extending an on-base streak to 14 games
• Last Wildcat named Big Ten Player of the Week: Kevin Ferrer (May 22, 2023)
  
  

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Joseph Dzierwa, Michigan State (pronounced: Ger-wa)
Jr. — S-LHP — Haskins, Ohio — Otsego HS

• Tossed a seven-inning, two-hitter in Michigan State’s 5-0 road win over No. 25 USC on Friday
• Struck out eight batters and allowed no walks, producing a 0.29 WHIP
• Held USC’s hitters to a .087 average — the Trojans entered the contest batting .293 and averaging 10.3 hits per game
• Dropped his ERA to 2.01 (lowest in the Big Ten) while improving to 8-2 on the year
• Named Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time this season and for the second consecutive week
  

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Paul Jones II, Maryland
Fr. — INF/DH — Burnsville, Minn. — Cretin-Derham Hall HS

• Helped Maryland to a 4-0 week and a conference road sweep of Minnesota
• Returning to his hometown, slugged .769 and reached base at a .556 clip while driving in six runs
• Launched a three-run homer in the series opener to blow the game open in an 8-2 win
• Pushed the winning run across the plate with an RBI double in the 11^th-inning of Sunday’s 11-10 slugfest in Minneapolis
