Oregon Stuns Maryland in Back-and-Forth Thriller

Etute, Cain lead Ducks to first-ever Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal in upset

No. 11 seed Oregon upset No. 6 Maryland, 73-68, in a thrilling game marked by 11 lead changes and 10 ties at the 2026 Allstate Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament . Maryland led 57-54 early in the fourth, but Oregon surged ahead with an 8-1 run. Etute scored 10 straight Q4 points for the Ducks and finished with 20 points, while Avary Cain delivered the dagger – a clutch three-pointer with 4.4 seconds left.

Maryland’s Oluchi Okananwa was outstanding with 27 points, including six straight late in the fourth, but the Terps couldn’t overcome Oregon’s 18 points from beyond the arc. Katie Fiso and Etute combined for 32 second-half points, leading the Ducks to their first-ever Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal appearance. Maryland dominated the paint early to build a 32-31 halftime lead, but Oregon’s defense and timely shooting turned the tide. The Ducks advance after a hard-fought, back-and-forth battle.

Fourth quarter: Ducks with a dagger

  • Oregon successfully appeals an out-of-bounds call to maintain possession. The Ducks trail 57-54.
  • Both teams have two players in double figures. Katie Fiso and Avary Cain for Oregon, and Oluchi Okananwa and Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu for Maryland.
  • Oregon goes on an 8-1 run to take a 60-58 lead! 5:43 remaining.
  • Notable: So far, we've seen 11 lead changes and 10 ties in the game.
  • Ehis Etute has Oregon's last 10 points, leading the Ducks to a 66-62 lead with 3:25 remaining.
  • Okananwa scores the last six points for the Terps and has 25 in the game. 66-64 Oregon with 2:36 left.
  • Big block from Etute turns into a triple from Sofia Bell on the other end, but Saylor Poffenbarger counters. 69-66 Ducks.
  • Notable: Oregon has 15 points from distance compared to Maryland's three.
  • CAIN WITH THE DAGGER! She nails a three with 4.4 seconds remaining to put the Ducks up 73-68.

Third quarter: Punches and counterpunches

  • Fiso (ORE) gets her first two, four, six, eight points of the game! Oregon leads 41-36 (7:22).
  • Maryland goes on a 7-0 run to take a two-point lead, but Fiso counters to tie it at 47! (3:56).
  • It's a back-and-forth battle. Maryland scores four, then Etute gets four back for Oregon. Kyndal Walker hits a two, and it's 53-51 Maryland with just over a minute remaining in Q3.
  • Notable: After a quiet first half, Fiso and Etute accounted for 19 of Oregon's 21 third-quarter points. Okananwa accounts for 9 of Maryland's 25.
  • Poffenbarger scores a layup for the Terps to end the half up 57-52.

Second quarter: One-point game at the half

  • The Ducks open with six-straight points, including a four-point play from Cain. Tie game!
  • Another and-one from Cain gives Oregon the 24-23 edge!
  • Maryland goes on a 6-0 run to take a 29-26 lead!
  • Notable: Maryland has held Oregon stars Etute and Fiso to just two points combined so far.
  • Notable: Maryland has a 24-10 advantage in the paint so far with a +7 rebounding margin.
  • It's 32-31 Terps at the half.

First quarter: Maryland gets early edge

  • Oregon and Maryland both get early buckets. It's 6-5 Maryland at 6:43.
  • Mia Jacobs (ORE) and Okananwa (MD) lead their teams with six points apiece. Maryland leads 14-8 at the media timeout (4:20).
  • Ozzy-Momodu goes on a six-point spurt for the Terps, and scores from Brean Williams and Mir McClean make it 21-13 Maryland.
