Terps Triumph in First Round
Coit, massive first half advance Maryland to second round
No. 17 seed Maryland defeated No. 16 seed Oregon to advance to the second round of the TIAA Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament. Maryland opened the game with a dominant 9-0 run and never looked back. The Terps' defense stifled Oregon, holding them to just 12 first-half points—a season-low—while out-rebounding them nearly 2:1. David Coit led the charge with 17 points, including a deep three during a 14-2 run that helped Maryland take a commanding 33-12 halftime lead.
In the second half, Oregon fought back with multiple runs, including a 12-0 surge that cut the deficit to 12 points late in the game. However, Maryland's balanced scoring, with five players in double figures, and timely plays like Elijah Saunders' three-pointer, kept the Ducks at bay. Despite Oregon's efforts, Maryland held on for a 70-60 victory to advance.
