Oklahoma defeats Nebraska in rivalry matchup
Visiting Oklahoma defeated Nebraska on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 49-14.
Dillon Gabriel led the way for Oklahoma, showcasing his dual-threat ability. He threw for two touchdowns while rushing for another to wreak havoc on Nebraska's defense. The Sooners' defense put on a clinic, racking up four sacks on the afternoon. Part of their success may be their ability to avoid costly mistakes, as Saturday brings their streak of games with two or fewer turnovers to three straight. Nebraska's run defense was a key issue against the Sooners. They gave up 5.8 yards per carry to Oklahoma rushers. Furthermore, the Huskers' defense just couldn't get off the field on third down, allowing Oklahoma to convert on 62 percent of attempts. Trey Palmer was a noticeable bright spot, though. He had 10 receptions for 92 yards and one touchdown. Oklahoma improves their record to 3-0 with the win. They will get their next test when they welcome Kansas St. to Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on Sept. 25. On the other side, Nebraska now sits at 1-3 on the year. Thankfully they'll have extra time to make corrections before their Oct. 1 contest against Indiana.
