Nine Big Ten Schools Headed to Bowl Games
ROSEMONT, Ill. - Nine Big Ten schools were selected for bowl competition on Sunday, highlighted by invitations to College Football Playoff bowls for Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State.
The Wolverines were ranked No. 1 by the College Football Playoff selection committee and will face No. 4 Alabama on Jan. 1 at 5 p.m. ET at Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, Calif. Michigan will make its league-leading 21st appearance in the "Granddaddy of Them All" on New Year's Day. U-M has appeared in more Rose Bowls than any other Big Ten school, and trails only Southern California (34) in overall appearances by both conferences. Michigan has compiled an 8-12 overall record in Rose Bowl games.
No. 7 Ohio State will face No. 9 Missouri in the 88th Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic on Friday, Dec. 29, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. ET on ESPN. The Buckeyes will be making their 55th overall bowl appearance and will be participating in the Cotton Bowl for the third time in program history.
No. 10 Penn State will face No. 11 Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl on at noon ET on Saturday, Dec. 30, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Nittany Lions will appear in the Peach Bowl for the first time in program history and becomes the eighth Big Ten team to play in the game.

A Big Ten school will play in the Rose Bowl for the 74th time.
Michigan is making its 51st overall bowl appearance and will be participating in the College Football Playoff semifinals for the third time in program history.
The Wolverines last competed in the Rose Bowl following the 2006 season against USC.
Goodyear Cotton Bowl (New Year’s Six Bowl)
No. 7 Ohio State vs. No. 9 Missouri
Dec. 29, 2023 – 8 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Arlington, Texas (AT&T Stadium)
The Buckeyes will play in the Cotton Bowl for the third time in program history and for the first time since 2017.
Big Ten schools have now made six appearances in the Cotton Bowl.
Ohio State is making its 55th overall bowl appearance and will be participating in the Cotton Bowl for the third time in program history.
Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl (New Year’s Six Bowl)
No. 10 Penn State vs. No. 11 Ole Miss

Penn State will appear in the Peach Bowl for the first time in program history and becomes the eighth Big Ten team to play in the game.
This is the 11th time a Big Ten school has appeared in the Peach Bowl.
Cheez-It Citrus Bowl
No. 17 Iowa vs. No. 21 Tennessee

A Big Ten school will play in the Citrus Bowl for the 32nd time.
Iowa is making its 36th bowl appearance and its third trip to the Citrus Bowl (formerly Capital One Bowl).
ReliaQuest Bowl
No. 13 LSU vs. Wisconsin
Jan. 1, 2023 – 12 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
Tampa, Fla. (Raymond James Stadium)
A Big Ten school will play in the ReliaQuest Bowl for the 35th time.
Wisconsin is making its 35th bowl appearance, including its seventh trip to the ReliaQuest Bowl.
The Badgers last played in the ReliaQuest (formerly Outback/Hall of Fame) Bowl in 2014.
TransPerfect Music City Bowl
Maryland vs. Auburn
Dec. 30, 2023 – 2 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Nashville, Tenn. (Nissan Stadium)
A Big Ten school will play in the Music City Bowl for the 10th time.
Maryland is making its 30th bowl appearance and its first trip to the Music City Bowl.
Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl
Rutgers vs. Miami

A Big Ten school will play in the Pinstripe Bowl for the ninth time.
Rutgers is making its 12th bowl appearance and third in the Pinstripe Bowl.
Quick Lane Bowl
Bowling Green vs. Minnesota
Dec. 26, 2023 – 2 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Detroit, Mich. (Ford Field)
A Big Ten school will play in the Quick Lane Bowl for the fifth time.
Minnesota is making its 24th bowl appearance and its third trip to the Quick Lane Bowl.
The Gophers have won six straight bowl games dating back to the 2015 Quick Lane Bowl.
SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl
Northwestern vs. Utah
Dec. 23, 2023 – 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Las Vegas, Nev. (Allegiant Stadium)
A Big Ten school will play in the Las Vegas Bowl for the second time and the first since Wisconsin in 2021.
Northwestern is making its 17th bowl appearance and first since defeating Auburn, 35-19, in the 2021 Citrus Bowl.
