Ohio State Sweeps Men’s Basketball Weekly Accolades
Buckeyes’ Thornton and Mobley score Big Ten weekly honors
ROSEMONT, Ill.– The Big Ten Conference has announced its Men’s Basketball Players of the Week for the week of December 16-22, 2024.
Player of the Week
Bruce Thornton, Ohio State
G – Jr. – 6-2 – Fairburn, Ga. – Milton
- Averaged 22.0 points, 4.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and shot nearly 60 percent in a pair of wins last week
- Scored a career-high 30 points on 8-for-13 shooting from the floor and a season-best 13-for-14 from the free throw line in leading Ohio State to an 85-65 win over then-No. 4 Kentucky, its largest margin of victory over a Top 5 team in 13 years
- Recorded 14 points and dished out a game-high six assists in a 95-73 win over Valparaiso earlier in the week
- Claims first Player of the Week honor

Freshman of the Week
John Mobley Jr., Ohio State
G – 6-1 – Reynoldsburg, Ohio – Wasatch Academy
- Averaged 12.0 points and 4.0 assists while making the first two starts of his collegiate career in a pair of Buckeye wins
- Paired 15 points, three rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals in an 85-65 win over then-No. 4 Kentucky
- Tallied 11 points and five assists in the Buckeyes’ 95-73 win over Valparaiso
- Earns his first Freshman of the Week award
