Illinois and Maryland Share Men’s Golfer of the Week Award

Illini’s Herendeen and Terps’ Riegger share honor after individual titles

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Illinois' Max Herendeen and Maryland’s Emil Riegger have been named Co-Big Ten Golfers of the Week for tournaments from March 19-26. 

Co-Golfers of the Week
Max Herendeen, Illinois 
Jr. – Bellevue, Wash.

  • Claimed the Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore. by five strokes 
  • Marks the fourth victory of his collegiate career 
  • Carded an 11-under 202, the third-lowest tournament score of his career 
  • Only competitor in the 88-player field to shoot under par in all three rounds 
  • Last Illinois Big Ten Men’s Golfer of the Week: Ethan Wilson (Mar. 19, 2026) 


Emil Riegger, Maryland 
Jr. – Fort Lauderdale, Fla.  

  • Won the individual title at the Bell Bank “Pay it Forward” Collegiate event Tuesday at the Wigwam Resort & Golf Club in Litchfield Park, Ariz. 
  • The junior’s second individual title this year after he won the Wyoming Desert Collegiate last month 
  • Went –10 overall with a score of 206 (66-69-71) 
  • Made 13 birdies with an eagle in the 54-hole event and tied his career-best 54-hole score with a 206. 
  • Last Terp to win two individual titles in a season was Tom Harris in 2016 
  • Riegger’s second Big Ten Men’s Golfer of the Week this season. Last: Feb. 26, 2026
