Michigan and Purdue Share Men’s Golfer of the Week Honor

Wolverines’ Thomson and Boilermakers’ Surtani split weekly accolade after capturing medalist honors at respective tournaments

Hunter Thomson, Michigan

Jr. – Calgary, Alberta – West Island College

  • With an eight birdie, 10 par clean sheet final round, and new career-low, 64 (-8), Hunter Thomson jumped four spots on the final day to win the individual title at the Palmas del Mar Collegiate by two shots with a career-best 201 (-15) 54-hole total

  • After four career runner-up finishes, Thomson earns his first title and becomes the fourth Wolverine to post a win this season

  • After opening with rounds of 68 (-4) and 69 (-3), he used his final round 64 (-8) to tie U-M's second lowest single round total in program history

  • The Academic All-Big Ten honoree collects his fourth career Golfer of the Week honor

Nels Surtani, Purdue

Jr. – Indianapolis, Ind. – Park Tudor

  • Became the first Boilermaker in the 31-year history of the prestigious Puerto Rico Classic to win medalist honors with a three-round total of 201(-15)

  • Surtani's 201 total marked the fifth-best 54-hole score in tournament history and tied for the third-best 54-hole tally in Purdue history

  • He becomes just the fifth golfer in Purdue history to have three rounds in the 60s in the same event

  • Earns his first career Golfer of the Week honor
