WISSAHICKON COURSE

In 1920, the Club commissioned one of its members, the renowned A.W. Tillinghast, to create a golf course in Flourtown. Now known as Wissahickon, this Tillinghast course shows the work of a design genius at the height of his abilities. The course opened in 1922 and underwent a complete restoration in 2013-14 as it was transformed back to its original design. In 2016, Wissahickon hosted the PGA Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship. Beautiful photos of the Wissahickon course were taken by Evan Schiller Photography.

ABOUT THE PHILADELPHIA CRICKET CLUB

Founded in 1854, The Philadelphia Cricket Club is one of the oldest clubs in the country devoted to the playing of games. As the name indicates, the Club was formed by a group of young men of English descent who had played the game while students at the University of Pennsylvania. With the wish to continue to play together after their graduation. Over the years, the Club has established itself as a home for many sports including golf, tennis, platform tennis, squash, and swimming among others.

The Philadelphia Cricket Club opened its first golf course in Chestnut Hill as a nine-hole course in 1895 and it was transformed into a new eighteen-hole course in 1897. The St. Martins course was the host site of the US Open Championships in 1907 and 1910. In 1920, land was purchased to construct a new championship course in Flourtown, just ten minutes away from the main clubhouse. This became known as the Wissahickon golf course which hosted the PGA Tour's 2016 Constellation Senior Players Championship and will host the 2020 U.S. Amateur Four Ball Championship. The 18-hole Militia Hill golf course, designed by Dr. Michl Hurdzan and Dana Fry, opened in Flourtown in 2002. The Philadelphia Cricket Club became the only club to open an 18-hole golf course in three consecutive centuries.
