2024 Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics Individual Titles Awarded

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Six individual event titles were handed out Saturday night to cap off the 2024 Big Ten Conference Men’s Gymnastics Championships at State Farm Center in Champaign, Ill. In addition, University of Michigan freshman Fred Richard was named the Gymnast of the Championships, while Wolverine head coach Yuan Xiao was chosen as the Big Ten Coach of the Year by a vote of the conference coaches. 

Earlier this week, Richard was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Year, while Illinois’ Brandon Dang was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year. It’s the second straight individual award for Richard after being named the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Year in 2023. Xiao was chosen as Big Ten Coach of the Year for the third consecutive season. It is also the ninth time a Wolverine coach has earned the honor, including each of the past five seasons, with Xiao’s predecessor at Michigan, Kurt Goder, as the recipient in 2020 and 2021.  

Dang took home the pommel horse title with a 14.800, winning the event for the seventh time this season following six regular season pommel horse titles.  

Illinois’ Connor McCool and Michigan’s Landen Blixt were named co-champions on floor with matching 14.500s. It was the second consecutive Big Ten floor title for McCool.  

Illinois rounded out its conference-leading four individual titles on Saturday with a first-place finish on rings and vault. Ashton Anaya placed first on rings with a 14.200, his third consecutive win on the event at the Big Ten Championships. Amari Sewell won the vault title with a 14.825.  

Michigan’s Crew Bold claimed the title on parallel bars with a 14.550 and Penn State’s Michael Jaroh won on the high bar with a 14.325.  

21 gymnasts earned All-Big Ten honors following their performances at this weekend’s conference meet, including seven from Michigan, six from Illinois, three from Ohio State and Penn State and two from Nebraska.
