Penn State, Illinois Earn Men’s Gymnastics Weekly Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Men’s Gymnasts of the Week for the week ending March 24, 2024.

Gymnast of the Week

Josh Karnes, Penn State

Jr. – Erie, Pa. – Erie – Major: Media Studies

• Claimed his fourth parallel bars victory with a 14.650 in Saturday’s loss to No. 4 Illinois

• Finished second on the vault (14.650) and third in the floor exercise (13.900) and high bar (13.700)

• Garners his sixth career Gymnast of the Week award and fourth of the season

• Last Penn State Gymnast of the Week: Josh Karnes (March 4, 2024)

Freshman of the Week

Luke Esparo, Penn State

Wallingford, Conn. – Mark T. Sheehan – Major: Health & Human Development

• Scored his fourth still rings victory of the season with a 14.150, as No. 6 Penn State fell to Illinois

• Earns his third Freshman of the Week award

• Last Penn State Freshman of the Week: Luke Esparo (March 18, 2024)

Event Specialist of the Week

Brandon Dang, Illinois

San Jose, Calif. – Evergreen Valley – Major: Electrical Engineering

• Scored a 14.750 on the pommel horse to win his sixth title of the season, helping the Illini clinch a share of the 2024 Big ten title

• Earns his third Event Specialist of the Week honor
