Michigan, Illinois Score Men’s Gymnastics Weekly Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Men’s Gymnasts of the Week for the week ending Jan. 21, 2024.

Gymnast of the Week

Paul Juda, Michigan

Grad. – Deerfield, Ill. – Buffalo Grove – Major: Master’s in Real Estate Development

• Won the vault and placed second on the Pommel horse and still rings as No. 4 Michigan topped then-No. 12 Army

• Score of 15.00 on the vault is the highest in the country this season, while his 14.45 on the still rings ranks third

• Garners his sixth career Gymnast of the Week award

• Last Michigan Gymnast of the Week: Fred Richard (February 27, 2023)

Freshman of the Week

Brandon Dang, Illinois

San Jose, Calif. – Evergreen Valley – Major: Electrical Engineering

• Won the pommel horse for his first career event win in No. 5 Illinois' win over then-No. 11 Greenville on Saturday

• Score of 14.450 ranks ninth in the country this season

• Earns his first Freshman of the Week award

• Last Illinois Freshman of the Week: Garrett Schooley (Jan. 15, 2024)

Event Specialist of the Week

Fred Richard, Michigan

So. – Stoughton, Mass. – MEGA – Major: College of Literature, Science, and the Arts

• Made his 2024 season debut with a victory in the pommel horse in the Wolverines' win over Army

• Posted a score of 15.00, best in the country this season

• Also scored a 14.40 in the high bar, tied for the highest score in the event this season

• Earns his first Event Specialist of the Week award
