Michigan State, Penn State and Wisconsin Earn Hockey Three Stars Awards

DiMarsico (PSU), Hauser (WIS) and Basgall (MSU) honored

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Three Stars of the Week for hockey games played October 16-18. 

 
First Star
Matt DiMarsico, Penn State
Jr. – F – Wexford, Pa. — Green Bay (USHL)

  • Led all Big Ten players with a six-point weekend in Penn State’s sweep of Long Island
  • Played a role in six of the eight goals PSU scored, logging three goals and three assists
  • Notched his second hat trick of the young season in a 5-4 overtime victory on Friday and assisted on all three goals in a 3-0 win Saturday
  • The Big Ten Distinguished Scholar earns his second career weekly award, having been named a Third Star on Nov. 21, 2024 
  • Last Penn State First Star: JJ Wiebusch (Oct. 14, 2025)


Second Star
Daniel Hauser, Wisconsin
Fr. – G – Chestermere, Alberta – Calgary (WHL)

  • Held No. 20/19 Minnesota State to three goals in a nonconference series that produced two overtime ties.
  • Stopped 44 of 47 shots and was not scored upon in 11 shootout attempts
  • Ranks fourth nationally in goals-against average (1.20) and fifth in save percentage (.949)
  • Becomes first Badger freshman to earn a Star Award since January 2023
  • Last Wisconsin Star honoree: Christian Fitzgerald (Third Star, Oct. 7, 2025)


Third Star
Matt Basgall, Michigan State
Sr. – D – Lake Forest, Ill. – Tri-City (USHL)

  • Helped No. 3/4 Michigan State to a pair of wins against No. 1/1 Boston University, marking the second time in three years MSU has swept the consensus No. 1-ranked team
  • Scored the overtime game-winning goal and went 4 for 4 on the penalty kill in the Spartans’ 4-3 win on Saturday
  • Assisted on two goals and blocked two shots in a 4-2 win on Friday
  • The 2025 AHCA/CCM All-American receives his first Star honor
  • Last Michigan State Star recipient: Tiernan Shoudy (Second Star, March 4, 2025)
