Michigan State and Wisconsin Secure Three Stars Awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Three Stars of the Week for hockey games played Dec. 8-9.

First Star

Trey Augustine, Michigan State

Fr. – G – South Lyon, Mich. — U.S. National Team Development Program

  • Recorded a .957 save percentage (stopping 66 of 69 shots) in No. 7/7 Michigan State’s sweep of No. 20/20 Notre Dame Dec. 8-9 in East Lansing, Mich.

  • Made 35 saves in the series opener and missed a shutout by 15 seconds on Saturday, turning away 31 shots, including a breakaway in the third period of a 2-1 win

  • Has yet to lose a conference game in regulation, posting an 11-3-1 record on the season

  • Honored as a First Star for the second time this season

  • Last Michigan State honoree: Trey Augustine (First Star, Nov. 21, 2023)

Second Star

Carson Bantle, Wisconsin

Sr. – F – Onalaska, Wis. — Michigan Tech (CCHA)

  • Produced three goals in helping No. 6/6 Wisconsin to a home sweep of No. 17/17 Penn State at the Kohl Center Dec. 8-9

  • Recorded the Badgers’ first hat trick of the season on four shots in a 6-3 win on Friday

  • Notched his fifth, sixth and seventh goals of the season to move into a second-place tie in team goal-scoring.

  • The Arizona Coyotes fifth-rounder receives the first Big Ten Star award of his career

  • Last Wisconsin Star selection: Kyle McClellan (First Star, Dec. 4, 2023)

Third Star

Charlie Stramel, Wisconsin

So. – F – Rosemount, Minn. — U.S. National Team Development Program

  • Compiled four points (goal, three assists) as Wisconsin extended its winning streak to five games over the weekend

  • Generated three assists — including a helper on the game winning goal — along with a plus-three rating in a 6-3 win over Penn State on Friday

  • Gave the Badgers a two-goal cushion with a third-period goal in the series finale

  • The Minnesota Wild first-round draft pick collects his first conference weekly award

  • Last Wisconsin award recipient: Kyle McClellan (First Star, Dec. 4, 2023)
