Michigan State and Penn State Receive Three Stars Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Three Stars of the Week for the opening weekend of hockey competition (Oct. 4-6).

First Star
Isaac Howard, Michigan State
Jr. – F – Hudson, Wis. — Minnesota-Duluth (NCAA)

  • Produced a five-point (three goals, two assists) series in Michigan State’s road sweep of Lake Superior State
  • Scored a goal and assisted on the game-winning goal in a 2-1 overtime win Friday and followed up with two goals and an assist in a 5-1 victory on Saturday
  • Compiled 13 shots on goal and a plus-five plus/minus rating on the weekend
  • The 2024 All-Big Ten Honorable Mention selection earns his first Star award
  • Last Michigan State First Star: Trey Augustine (Dec. 12, 2023)

Second Star
Daniel Russell, Michigan State
Jr. – F – Traverse City, Mich. – Sioux Falls (USHL)

  • Scored back-to-back game-winning goals for No. 4/4 Michigan State in a nonconference sweep at Lake Superior State
  • Generated consecutive multiple-point games to finish with two goals and two assists
  • Totaled nine shots on goal and a plus-four plus/minus rating
  • The Academic All-Big Ten honoree takes home his first Big Ten weekly award
  • Last Michigan State honoree: Trey Augustine (Second Star, March 5, 2024)

Third Star
Simon Mack, Penn State
Sr. – D – Brockville, Ont. – Des Moines (USHL)

  • Registered four points (goal, three assists) for Penn State in a road series sweep of Alaska
  • Netted the overtime game-winning goal on Saturday in a 4-3 contest
  • Helped Penn State to a 5-0 shutout win on Sunday, providing two assists and blocking two shots
  • The Big Ten Distinguished Scholar earns his first-ever Star honor
  • Last Penn State selection: Reese Laubach (Third Star, Feb. 20, 2024)
