Michigan, Michigan State and Minnesota Receive Three Stars Awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Three Stars of the Week for hockey games played Jan. 12-13.

First Star
Gavin Brindley, Michigan
So. – F – Estero, Fla. — Tri-City Storm (USHL)

  • Amassed seven points (five goals, two assists) in No. 15/15 Michigan’s sweep of Stonehill, Jan. 12-13, in Ann Arbor
  • Produced four goals and a plus-5 rating in a 12-4 series-opening win Friday
  • Scored on five of eight shots taken to maintain his hold of the Michigan goal-scoring lead (15)
  • The World Junior gold medalist earns his second career Star award and first of the year
  • Last Michigan honoree: Jake Barczewski (Second Star, Nov. 28, 2023)

Second Star
Artyom Levshunov, Michigan State
Fr. – D – Zhlobin, Belarus — Green Bay Gamblers (USHL)

  • Generated five points (goal, four assists) as No. 8/8 Michigan State swept a conference series at No. 20/19 Penn State
  • Recorded a career-best four points (goal, three assists) on Saturday, propelling the Spartans into first place in the Big Ten
  • Leads Big Ten players with 14 assists in conference play
  • The nation’s plus/minus co-leader (+22) collects his first-ever Star Award
  • Last Michigan State award winner: Trey Augustine (First Star, Dec. 12, 2023)

Third Star
Sam Rinzel, Minnesota
Fr. – D – Chanhassen, Minn. — Waterloo Black Hawks (USHL)

  • Factored in half of Minnesota’s scoring in a nonconference series sweep of Robert Morris in Minneapolis
  • Distributed four assists, including three in the series opener, to improve on his team-leading assists total (17)
  • Finished the weekend with five shots on goal and a plus-three rating; helped the Gopher defensive corps limit Robert Morris to three goals
  • The Chicago Blackhawks first round draft pick receives his first Big Ten weekly honor
  • Last Minnesota recipient: Jimmy Snuggerud (First Star, Jan. 10, 2024)
