NCAA Update: Minnesota Advances to Regional Final

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — No. 2 seed Minnesota posted a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over No. 3 seed Omaha on the opening day of the 2024 NCAA Hockey Tournament Thursday at the Sioux Falls Regional.

For the fourth-straight year, the Gophers (23-10-5) have advanced to the regional finals and will play No. 1 seed Boston University on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

It was a tale of two games as No. 11/12-ranked Omaha (23-13-4) held an 19-5 shot advantage in the second period after scoring on a five-minute power play. Midway throught the second period Minnesota turned the tables, evening the score on Jimmy Clark's goal. The teams exchanged third period goals before Gopher captain Jaxon Nelson netted the game-winner with 4:17 left in regulation, doing so in the same rink he played junior hockey.

Michigan State, Michigan and Wisconsin begin NCAA regional play on Friday.
