Notre Dame and Wisconsin Claim Three Stars Awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Three Stars of the Week for hockey games played Dec. 28-31.

First Star

Simon Tassy, Wisconsin

So. – F – Montreal, Quebec — Minnesota State (CCHA)

  • Helped No. 6/6 Wisconsin to the Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off championship, scoring game-winning goals on consecutive nights

  • Responsible for four of the six goals Wisconsin scored as the Badgers defeated Air Force, 3-0, on Dec. 28 and Northeastern 3-0 on Dec. 29

  • Netted Wisconsin’s first natural hat trick since 2000 in the championship game and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Forward

  • Receives first Big Ten weekly award

Second Star

Cole Knuble, Notre Dame

Fr. – F – Grand Rapids, Mich. — Fargo Force (USHL)

  • Scored half of Notre Dame’s eight goals in a nonconference sweep of Augustana at the Compton Family Ice Arena on Dec. 30-31

  • The Philadephia Flyers draft pick produced four goals on seven shots and won 26-of-36 faceoffs for a 72.7 success rate to earn his first weekly Star award

  • Recorded a hat trick in the series opener and netted his second game-winning goal in as many nights 22 seconds into overtime on Sunday

  • Last Notre Dame Star selection: Ryan Bischel (Third Star, Dec. 5, 2023)

Third Star

Kyle McClellan, Wisconsin

Sr. – G – Manchester, Mo. — Mercyhurst (Atlantic Hockey)

  • Did not allow a goal in posting consecutive shutouts for Wisconsin at the Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off, extending his shutout streak to 124:48

  • Stopped all 55 shots to earn the tournament’s Most Outstanding Goaltender award

  • Improved on his NCAA-leading numbers for wins (14), goals-against average (1.62), save percentage (.939) and shutouts (5)

  • Earns fourth Star award of his career and his third this season

  • Last Wisconsin award recipients: Carson Bantle (Second Star, Dec. 12, 2023) and Charlie Stramel (Third Star, Dec. 12, 2023)
