The second night of the Big Ten Hockey Tournament saw Minnesota and Michigan advance to the semifinals while Wisconsin forced a third and deciding game against Ohio State.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Aaron Huglen scored the game-winning goal with 1:08 left in regulation as No. 3 seed Minnesota eliminated No. 6 seed Penn State by a 3-2 count.

The Gophers (22-9-5) opened a 2-0 lead behind a pair of first-period goals from Jaxon Nelson, who earned Big Ten First Star of the Week honors on Tuesday. Penn State (15-18-3) fought back to even the contest in the second period and outshot Minnesota 35-7 over the last two periods. Goaltender Justen Close was up to the task, making 46 saves for the Gophers.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — For the second-straight night, No. 4 seed Michigan rallied from behind to pin a 4-3 loss on No. 5 seed Notre Dame, removing the Irish from the tournament.

Michigan's Gavin Brindley broke a 2-2 tie with his 23rd goal of the season early in the third period. T.J. Hughes scored twice for the Wolverines (20-13-3) while Patrick Moynihan turned in a three-point (1g-2a) night for Notre Dame (15-19-2).

MADISON, Wis. — No. 2 seed Wisconsin staved off elimination with a 4-2 win over No. 7 seed Ohio State before a quarterfinals record crowd of 10,837 at the Kohl Center.

The Badgers (26-10-2) scored twice on the power play and on empty net to stay alive in the tournament. Ohio State (13-19-4) finished with a 39-37 shot advantage.

Ohio State and Wisconsin faceoff at 6 p.m. Sunday night with a semifinal berth on the line.
