Michigan, Michigan State and Minnesota Receive Three Star Plaudits

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Three Stars of the Week for hockey games played Jan. 19-20.

First Star
Rutger McGroarty, Michigan
So. – F – Lincoln, Neb. — U.S. National Team Development Program

  • Compiled an NCAA-best eight points over the weekend (Jan. 19-20) as Michigan split against No. 7/5 Michigan State
  • Registered a goal and three assists in the Wolverine’s 7-1 victory in East Lansing
  • Produced a second-straight, four-point game with two goals and two assists on Saturday  
  • The Winnipeg Jets first round selection earns his second weekly award of the season and for his career
  • Last Michigan honoree: Gavin Brindley (First Star, Jan. 16, 2024)

Second Star
Rhett Pitlick, Minnesota
Jr. – F – Plymouth, Minn. — Tri-City Storm (USHL)

  • Led No. 10/10 Minnesota to a Big Ten sweep of Ohio State, Jan. 19-20, in Minneapolis
  • Generated four goals and an assist in the series, highlighted by a hat trick in the opener
  • Ranks in the Top 10 nationally in goals, having netted 14 goals in his last 14 games
  • The Montreal Canadiens draft pick collects his third Big Ten weekly award of the season and the fourth of his career
  • Last Minnesota award winner: Sam Rinzel (Third Star, Jan. 16, 2024)

Nicolas Müller, Michigan State
5th – F – Arisdorf, Switzerland — Modo (Sweden J20 SuperElit)

  • Produced five points (three goals, two assists) in Michigan State’s split against No. 15/14 Michigan over the weekend
  • Accumulated two goals and two assists as No. 7/5 Michigan State overcame a three-goal deficit to post a 7-5 road win Saturday in Yost Ice Arena
  • Scored the Spartans’ lone goal in the series opener
  • The Big Ten Distinguished Scholar receives his second Big Ten award this season and the third of his career
