Penn State Sweeps, Two Other Series Extended to Game Three on Sunday

No. 5 Penn State completed the first upset of the Big Ten Hockey Tournament, downing No. 4 seed Michigan on Saturday to sweep the best-of-three quarterfinals series. No. 2 Minnesota and No. 3 Ohio State also posted wins to force decisive game threes on Sunday.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Penn State continued its torrid play of late, receiving goals from five different players in a 5-2 win at Yost Ice Arena.

Michigan scored just 1:23 into the contest, but Penn State answered 14 seconds later and scored late in the opening period to claim a lead it did not relinquish. Four players recorded multiple-point games for the Nittany Lions, who will learn later tonight their opponent for the Big Ten Semifinals.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State rallied from a two-goal deficit to post a 3-2 overtime victory over No. 6 Wisconsin at Nationwide Arena.

Gunnarwolfe Fontaine scored with the goalie pulled with 1:29 left in regulation and Riley Thompson notched the game winner 7:30 into overtime.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Minnesota evened its series against No. 7 Notre Dame with a 4-2 win at 3M Arena at Mariucci.

The Gophers finished with a 35-23 advantage in shots and with a win on Sunday, can clinch home ice for next week's semifinals.
