Big Ten Conference Announces Hockey Preseason Honors

ROSEMONT, lll. – Defending regular season champion Michigan State is favored to win the 2024-25 Big Ten Championship according to the Big Ten Hockey Coaches Preseason Poll released on Friday. Preseason All-Big Ten teams (featuring 12 student-athletes total) were also selected in voting conducted by conference head coaches.

The Spartans, who captured the 2024 Big Ten Tournament Championship, are poll front-runners for the first time. The top four spots in the preseason survey are occupied by teams that appeared in last year's NCAA Tournament. Besides Michigan State, Minnesota was picked to finished second, Frozen Four participant Michigan slated third and Wisconsin tabbed fourth. Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State were picked fifth through seventh respectively.

The 2024-25 campaign will mark the 12th season of Big Ten Hockey, with past preseason honorees including current NHL/AHL players Matty Beniers (Michigan), Mason Appleton (Michigan State), Brock Faber (Minnesota), Jake Evans (Notre Dame), Dakota Joshua (Ohio State), Alex Limoges (Penn State) and K’Andre Miller (Wisconsin).

The Preseason All-Big Teams are comprised of six players on each team: three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender. Michigan State placed three players on the first team while Minnesota led the way with four total selections.

Minnesota forward Jimmy Snuggerud and Michigan State goaltender Trey Augustine were unanimous selections to the preseason All-Big Ten First Team. Snuggerud is coming off a 21-goal season while Augustine led the nation in saves (1,113). Other first team members include MSU forwards Karsen Dorwart and Issac Howard along with Minnesota defenseman Sam Rinzel and Wisconsin blueliner Ben Dexheimer.
