Michigan, Minnesota and Penn State Earn Weekly Hockey Awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Three Stars of the Week for hockey games played Jan. 26-27.

First Star
Frank Nazar III, Michigan
So. – F – Mount Clemens, Mich. — U.S. National Team Development Program
  • Amassed five points (three goals, two assists) in Michigan’s split against No. 3/3 Wisconsin, Jan. 26-27, in Ann Arbor, Mich.
  • Scored the game-winning goal, placed five shots on goal and won 15 faceoffs in a 5-1 Wolverine win against the nation’s top defensive team on Friday
  • Is one of six Michigan players averaging over a point per game (1.33)
  • The Chicago Blackhawks first round selection collects his first Star honor
  • Last Michigan honoree: Rutger McGroarty (First Star, Jan. 23, 2024)

Oliver Moore, Minnesota
Fr. – F – Mounds View, Minn. — U.S. National Team Development Program
  • Compiled a four-point weekend as No. 9/9 Minnesota split on the road at No. 8/7 Michigan State
  • Notched goals both nights, scoring twice in Minnesota’s 5-1 win on Saturday
  • Extended his points streak to seven games, matching the team’s longest streak of the season 
  • The Chicago Blackhawks first rounder earns his first Big Ten award
  • Last Minnesota award winner: Rhett Pitlick (Second Star, Jan. 23, 2024)

Third Star
Aiden Fink, Penn State
Fr. – F – Calgary, Alberta — Brooks Bandits (AJHL)
  • Registered a pair of multi-point games to help Penn State to its first-ever sweep of Ohio State
  • Struck three times on the power play, setting a school record with eight on the season
  • Finished the weekend with three goals and one assist and owns the third-highest freshman scoring total (32 points) in program history
  • The Nashville Predators draft pick receives his third weekly award of the season (1-Second, 2-Thirds)
  • Last Penn State recipient: Ryan Kirwan (Second Star, Jan. 10, 2024)
