NCAA Update: Gophers Lose in Regional Final
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — In a rematch of last year's Frozen Four semifinal, seventh-ranked Minnesota dropped a 6-3 contest to second-ranked Boston University in the Sioux Falls Regional final held at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center Saturday evening.
Minnesota (23-11-5), which ended BU's season last year, opened a 2-0 lead in the opening period on goals from Jaxon Nelson (who was named to the all-regional team) and Bryce Brodzinski. The Terriers (28-9-2) scored late in the period and added three more in the second frame to go into the third period with a 4-3 lead.
Minnesota applied pressure in the third but gave up two empty net goals to BU, who will face Denver in the Frozen Four semifinals in two weeks.
