Minnesota, Ohio State and Penn State Garner Three Star Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Three Stars of the Week for hockey games played Jan. 5-8.

First Star
Jimmy Snuggerud, Minnesota
So. – F – Chaska, Minn. — U.S. National Team Development Program

  • Less than 24 hours after winning a gold medal for Team USA at the World Junior Championship, returned to the Gophers and recorded six points against Colorado College
  • Registered his second career hat trick in Minnesota’s 6-2 win over the Tigers on Jan. 8
  • Finished with five goals on 14 shots and a plus-3 rating in the series versus CC
  • The NHL first round draft pick earns the fourth career weekly award (3-First Stars, 1-Second Star) of his career and the second this season
  • Last Minnesota honoree: Rhett Pitlick (Second Star, Dec. 5, 2023)

Ryan Kirwan, Penn State
Jr. – F – DeWitt, N.Y. — Green Bay Gamblers (USHL)

  • Played a role in the biggest comeback in program history as Penn State rallied from a 6-2 deficit to defeat Army, 7-6, on Jan. 6 in University Park
  • Sparked Penn State’s rally with three-straight goals (a natural hat trick) in a span of 4 minutes, 33 seconds between the second and third periods
  • Added an assist for a career-best, four-point night against the Black Knights
  • Receives his fourth career Big Ten weekly award and second of the season
  • Last Penn State award winner: Aiden Fink (Third Star, Nov. 28, 2023)

Third Star
Scooter Brickey, Ohio State
5th – D – Burtchville, Mich. — Western Michigan (NCHC)

  • Helped Ohio State complete a home-and-home sweep of Bowling Green over the weekend (Jan. 5-6)
  • Broke a 1-1 tie with two goals during a stretch of 4 minutes, 18 seconds as Ohio State rolled to a 6-2 home win on Friday
  • Finished the series with a team-best three goals along with a plus-4 rating and four blocked shots
  • Earns his second career Big Ten weekly honor and first of the season
  • Last Ohio State recipient: Logan Terness (First Star, Oct. 31, 2023)
