NCAA Update: Michigan State and Michigan to Meet Once Again
Michigan State and Michigan advanced to the Maryland Heights Regional Final with dramatic wins Saturday while Wisconsin saw its season come to a close at the Providence Regional.
MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. — No. 1 seed Michigan State rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period to stun No. 4 seed Western Michigan, 5-4, in overtime Friday at the Centene Community Ice Center.
Karsen Dorwart buried an extra attacker goal with 0:55 left in regulation and Jeremy Davidson scored the game-winner 11:13 into overtime to complete the comeback. Five different players scored as the Spartans (25-9-3) set the stage for another encounter with arch-rival Michigan in Sunday's Regional Final.
No. 3 seed Michigan trailed twice against No. 2 seed North Dakota before scoring three times in the third period to pull out a 4-3 win Friday evening.
Dylan Duke scored a pair goals, including the game-winner and goaltender Jake Barczewski made nine saves in the third period to seal the win for the Wolverines (22-14-3), who will take on Michigan State for the sixth time this season on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Despite being outshot 32-20, No. 2 seed Wisconsin went to overtime before falling 3-2 to No. 3 seed Quinnipiac at Amica Mutual Pavilion.
Trailing 1-0 after 20 minutes, Wisconsin (26-12-2) struck twice in a span of 1:15 in the second period behind goals from Quinn Finley and Joe Palodichuk.
Quinnipiac (27-9-2) answered with two goals from Victor Czerneckianair to end a memorable season for the Badgers.
