Hughes (Michigan), Cole Knuble (Notre Dame), Danny Nelson (Notre Dame) and Eric Pohlkamp (Denver) join the group selected to compete in the prestigious tournament in late December.Cerrato, who is a sophomore forward out of Fallston, Md., currently leads Division I men’s hockey with 11 points on three goals and eight assists in just four games. The Big Ten All-Freshman Team selection totaled 15 goals and 27 assists for 42 points in 2024-25, which led all conference rookies. His point total was the second-most all-time by a Penn State freshman. Netting two power-play goals and two game-winners, the Carolina Hurricanes draft choice helped the Nittany Lions to their first-ever Frozen Four appearance.A senior forward from Hamilton, Ontario, Hughes is the active NCAA points leader, accumulating 127 points on 48 goals and 79 assists in 120 career games. Named All-Big Ten Second Team in 2024-25, he had 15 goals and 23 assists for 38 points, with nine power-play tallies and one game-winner. As a sophomore, he posted a career-high 48 points on 19 goals and 29 assists, garnering Honorable Mention All-Big Ten. Through four games this season, he has a goal and four assists for five points, helping the fourth-ranked Wolverines to a 4-0-0 start.Knuble, a junior forward who hails from Grand Rapids, Mich., garnered All-Big Ten Second Team honors in 2024-25, after collecting 12 goals and 27 assists for 39 points in 34 games. The Philadelphia Flyers draft choice has 60 points on 21 goals and 39 assists in 72 career collegiate games, which includes four man-advantage tallies and six game-winners. Earn Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2024-25, he notched 10 multi-point games for the Fighting Irish, including a four-point outburst in a 4-1 victory over LIU on October 25.A junior and fellow Fighting Irish forward from Maple Grove, Minn., Nelson produced 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points in 36 games last season. Ranking fourth nationally in face-off percentage (57.2%), the New York Islanders draft pick was third on Notre Dame in power-play goals (3) and had one game-winning tally. The U.S. National Team Development Program product helped the United States win the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championships in Ottawa, scoring four goals and dishing out two assists for six points in seven games.Pohlkamp, a junior defenseman out of Baxter, Minn., earned All-NCHC Third Team honors last season, notching 11 goals and 24 assists for 35 points in 44 contests, as the Pioneers reached the Frozen Four for second straight season and the 20th time overall. A San Jose Sharks draft choice, he was an All-CCHA First Team selection as a freshman at Bemidji State, netting 11 goals with 13 assists for 24 points in 32 games, helping the Beavers win the MacNaughton Cup as regular season champions. Off to hot start in 2025-26, he leads all NCAA Division I blueliners with three goals in just two games, and his four points are good for third nationally. Netting a shorthanded goal and a game-winner, he has the fifth-ranked Pioneers off to a 1-0-1 record.Last week, the “First Five” members of the team were announced, which included Aiden Fink (Penn State), Mac Gadowsky (Penn State), Jake Livanavage (North Dakota), Joey Muldowney (Connecticut), and Alex Tracy (Minnesota State), bringing the named total to 10 student-athletes from four NCAA conferences.All returning First and Second Team AHCA/CCM All-Americans received an automatic invitation to the team. The remainder of the roster, which will include representation from all six conferences, will be constructed by the USCS coaching staff and organizing committee, with guidance from select NHL scouts.The United States Collegiate Selects will face Team Canada to open play Spengler Cup play on December 26. Each team will play a minimum of three contests and maximum of five during the six-day event.The tournament is being broadcast to over 20 countries, either through a partner or via livestream. Official word on how the games can be seen in the United States will be announced at a later date.The U.S. Collegiate Select team will be made up of 25 student-athletes from across NCAA men’s ice hockey. The competition runs from December 26-31, with the six participating teams. Along with the Selects, host HC Davos, Team Canada, HC Fribourg-Gotteron, Sparta Praha and IFK Helsinki will be taking part in the 2025 edition.</div>

Four More Big Ten Players Named to U.S. Collegiate Select Team

 </a> • Big Ten Hockey schools will continue to test their mettle against nonconference opponents this week with all seven teams taking to the ice, starting Thursday evening. No. 3/4 Michigan State will take on No. 1/1 Boston University in a battle of top 4 teams. Three other series feature top 25 showdowns: No. 13/14 Minnesota travels to No. 8/8 North Dakota, No. 16/15 Ohio State visits No. 12/12 Connecticut and No. 17/17 Wisconsin plays host to No. 20/19 Minnesota State. No. 4/3 Michigan returns home to face Robert Morris and No. 6/6 Penn State welcomes LIU to Hockey Valley. Notre Dame makes its home debut with a pair of games against St. Lawrence. The Big Ten owns the best inter-conference record in the country, posting a .675 win percentage (13-6-1) against the other five leagues and independent teams. • Following a first-round exit in the Big Ten Tournament last year, Michigan is off to a strong start in October, having outscored opponents, 26-3. The Wolverines lead the country in scoring, producing goals at a 6.50 per-game clip. Coach Brandon Naurato’s group has played lock-down defense as well, allowing less than a goal per game (0.75) behind freshman goaltender Jack Ivankovic. The three goals allowed is the fewest to the start of a season since the 1925-26 campaign. Michigan isn’t the only school lighting up the scoreboard. Wisconsin stands fourth nationally with a 5.00 goals-per game average and Penn State ranks fifth with a 4.75 norm. PSU’s JJ Wiebusch owns an NCAA-best six goals on the year while teammate Charlie Cerrato paces the country in assists (8) and points (11). • The 2025-26 Big Ten Hockey television schedule features a record-31 games to be aired on the Big Ten Network, FS1 and the FOX Sports App. The schedule includes eight doubleheaders, highlighted by the Michigan State-Penn State outdoor game at Beaver Stadium on Jan. 31. The next BTN telecast will be Oct. 23 when Michigan hosts Western Michigan. All games that do not appear on BTN, with the exception of Notre Dame’s home games on Peacock, will be available on B1G+ , BTN’s subscription service for 2,700 more events, archives of classic games and original content. • A pair of Nittany Lions were among the first five players named to the United States Collegiate Select team, which will compete at the Spengler Cup, Dec.26-31. Penn State junior Aiden Fink will be joined by teammate Mac Gadowsky on the first-ever collegiate select team to appear in the 102-year-old tournament. PSU Head Coach Guy Gadowsky will direct the 25-member team that will be unveiled in the coming weeks. <div class="payload-richtext">The United States Collegiate Select hockey team has announced the “First Five” members of its inaugural squad and Aiden Fink (Penn State), Mac Gadowsky (Penn State), Jake Livanavage (North Dakota), Joey Muldowney (Connecticut), and Alex Tracy (Minnesota State) have been selected. The five are all returning AHCA/CCM All-Americans and represent four of the six NCAA men’s ice hockey conferences.A junior forward from Calgary, Alberta, Fink was a Second Team AHCA/CCM All-America selection and Hobey Baker Top-10 Finalist a season ago. Penn State’s first-ever unanimous First Team All-Big Ten selection, he recorded a school-record 53 points last season, which was good for fourth nationally, while his 1.33 points per game were second in the Big Ten and third in the nation. His 30 assists were the most in the Big Ten and tied for seventh nationally while his 23 goals were third in the conference and ninth in the nation.Gadowsky, a junior defenseman out of State College, Pa., garnered First Team AHCA/CCM All-America recognition at Army in 2024-25, after posting 16 goals and 26 assists for 42 points – third-most in the country among blueliners. His goal total was fourth in the AHA while his points total was second in the league. He logged 33 points in 26 conference games, for a mark of 1.27 points per contest. His honors throughout the season included a pair of AHA Defenseman of the Month honors, while receiving Defenseman of the Week recognition five times.A junior defenseman who hails from Phoenix, Ariz., Livanavage was a Second Team AHCA/CCM All-America honoree last season, collecting four goals and 24 assists for 28 points for North Dakota. During NCHC play, Livanavage led the Fighting Hawks with 21 points, including 18 helpers, while finishing with a +4 rating and becoming only the fifth defenseman at North Dakota to earn an All-NCHC First Team selection and the first UND underclassman defenseman to earn first team recognition since 2000-01. Totaling seven games with multiple points, including a trio of games with three points, he was also dominant on the defensive side of the puck, pacing the team with 68 blocked shots and ranking 10th in the nation with over 25 minutes of ice time per game. Muldowney, a junior forward from Lake View, N.Y., led UConn to a historic season in 2024-25, earning a Second Team AHCA/CCM All-America selection after scoring 29 goals, which ranked second amongst Division I skaters. Finishing the season with 47 points, he led the Huskies and set a program single-season record. He became the program record-holder for most hat tricks (3) and goals scored in a single season in the Hockey East era, earning Hockey East Second Team All-Star honors, as well as New England Hockey Writers Association Most Improved Player.A senior goaltender out of Chicago, Ill., Tracy earned Second Team AHCA/CCM All-America recognition at Minnesota State last season, while also being named a Mike Richter Award Finalist and Hobey Baker Award Top-10 Finalist. The CCHA Player of the Year and Goaltender of the Year, he led the nation in goals against average (.946) and save percentage (1.42), going 26-9-3 in 38 games, including five shutouts, which was good for third in the nation. His 961 total saves ranked second in the CCHA and sixth nationally, surrendering only 39 even-strength goals. The three-time CCHA Goaltender of the Month and five-time Goaltender of the Week, he was also the CCHA Student-Athlete of the Year and a College Sports Communicators First Team Academic All-America selection.All returning First and Second Team AHCA/CCM All-Americans received an automatic invitation to the roster.  </a> • Coming off an opening week which saw Big Ten teams win seven of eight games, nonconference action continues with games starting Thursday. The Big Ten will face three teams from Hockey East: No. 2/2-ranked Michigan State opens at home against New Hampshire, No. 9/7 Michigan travels to No. 7/6 Providence in a battle of top-10 teams and No. 12/12 Minnesota continues its homestand by hosting No. 11/10 Boston College. In addition to MSU, other Big Ten teams making their home debuts include No. 4/4 Penn State, which will meet rv/rv Clarkson at Pegula Ice Arena and No. 16/16 Ohio State, taking on Northern Michigan at Value City Arena in the Schottenstein Center. Rv/rv Notre Dame travels to Tempe, Arizona for the Ice Breaker Tournament. Brock Sheahan makes his debut behind the bench as the Fighting Irish encounter No. 15/15 Arizona State on Friday and either No. 8/9 Quinnipiac or Alaska on Saturday. No. 18/18 Wisconsin will play an exhibition against the U.S. National Team Development Program in Madison. The Big Ten Network will air a hockey doubleheader on Thursday starting with Clarkson-Penn State at 6:30 p.m. ET followed by Boston College-Minnesota at 9 p.m. ET. • The Ice Breaker Tournament, now in its 28th year, marks the traditional start to the college hockey season, bringing together four of the nation’s top teams from different conferences. The tournament is organized by the Hockey Commissioners Association and College Hockey Inc. Big Ten schools have won eight Ice Breakers behind the efforts of Michigan (2021), Michigan State (1997), Minnesota (2007, 2013, 2014), Notre Dame (2012, 2018) and Ohio State (2019). Notre Dame will be making its fifth appearance at the event. Notre Dame also recently received an invitation to take part in the Friendship Four, a college hockey tournament held in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The Irish will appear in the 2028 edition and Wisconsin will be part of the field in 2027. • The 2025-26 National Hockey League season commenced Tuesday with 69 former Big Ten players gracing opening-night rosters (see page five). Michigan has a conference-high 22 players on rosters, just ahead of Minnesota with 18. In 2024-25, the Big Ten featured 93 former players who saw action during the regular season. Gadowsky will coach the U.S. Collegiate Selects at the 2025 Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland (Dec. 26-31). The U.S. Collegiate Selects will be comprised of active NCAA Division I players (of any nationality) chosen from all six conferences and independent programs. It will be the first select college team to play in the tournament’s 102-year history. Motzko will oversee the U.S. National Junior Team at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship. He won’t have to travel far as the WJC will be held in the Twin Cities, Dec. 26-Jan. 5. Motzko is making his third stint with the U.S. Junior National Team, having guided the Americans to gold in 2017 and bronze in 2018. </div>

No. 5/5 Penn State, coming off a Frozen Four appearance, travels to No. 14/14 Arizona State for a series that will be carried by the NHL Network and streamed on NHL YouTube. No. 8/7 Minnesota opens at home, taking on rv/- Michigan Tech while No. 12/12 Michigan plays host to Mercyhurst. No. 20/19 Wisconsin hits the road for two games at Lindenwood. In exhibition action, No. 3/3 Michigan State entertains Windsor and rv/rv Notre Dame meets the U.S. National Team Development Program. No. 16/17 Ohio State starts its season next week. • The early season schedule will consist of nonconference dates before conference games begin Oct. 30-31. Michigan State is favored to win its third-straight regular season championship based on the coaches’ preseason poll released on Sept. 25. Penn State earned the second-most votes and 2025 Big Ten co-champion Minnesota placed third in voting. Michigan (fourth), Wisconsin (fifth), Ohio State (sixth) and Notre Dame (seventh) rounded out the poll. Penn State signed Gavin McKenna, a top prospect for the 2026 NHL Draft, to join Jackson Smith, selected 14th overall by Columbus in 2025. Michigan State landed Cayden Lindstrom, who went fourth overall to Columbus in 2024 and Porter Martone, the sixth pick overall (Philadelphia) in 2025. In addition, Michigan signed 2025 second-round picks Malcolm Spence (43rd) and Jack Ivankovic (58th) plus 2024 third-rounder Henry Mews (74th). • The Big Ten Tournament will have a different look in 2026, being shortened from three weeks to two weeks. The quarterfinals, previously played as best-of-three series over a weekend, will now be single-elimination games played on Wednesday (March 11) to open the tournament. Single-elimination semifinals and the ensuring championship game will be played on consecutive Saturdays on March 14 and March 21 at campus sites. As in past years, the tournament champion receives the conference’s automatic berth into the NCAA postseason.  • Change is coming to the NCAA Tournament as well, specifically with the selection criteria used in determining the field. The NCAA Percentage Index (NPI) will replace the Pairwise, a rankings system that had been in use for years. Among the items NPI takes into consideration are winning percentage, strength of schedule, quality wins, and overtime contests.</div>

<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, lll. — Two-time defending regular season champion Michigan State is favored to win the 2025-26 Big Ten Championship according to the Big Ten Hockey Coaches Preseason Poll released on Thursday. Preseason All-Big Ten teams (featuring 12 student-athletes total) were also selected in voting conducted by conference head coaches. The Spartans top the poll after having captured the last two Big Ten regular season and tournament titles. Penn State, which advanced to last year’s Frozen Four, was picked second and 2024-25 Big Ten co-champion Minnesota tabbed third. Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Notre Dame round out the poll. The Preseason All-Big Teams are comprised of six players on each team: three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender. Penn State leads the way with three selections. The preseason first team features five returning All-Big Ten performers: Penn State forward Aiden Fink (first team), Michigan State defenseman Matt Basgall (first) and Michigan State goaltender Trey Augustine (first) along with Notre Dame forward Cole Knuble (second), and Wisconsin forward Quinn Finley (second). The postseason tournament, which determines the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, will shift to a two-week, single-elimination format with all games played on campus. The 2025-26 regular season concludes with games on Thursday and Friday, March 5-6. All seven teams will qualify for the Big Ten Tournament with quarterfinals being held on Wednesday, March 11. Teams seeded No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 will host the No. 5, No. 6 and No. 7 seeds respectively. The No. 1 seed gains a bye into the semifinals. Semifinals will take place on Saturday, March 14, hosted by the No. 1 seed and the highest advancing seed from the quarterfinals. The championship game will be held the weekend of March 20-21 and hosted by the highest remaining seed. The victory marked the first time since 1933 Team USA had won a "stand alone" world championship and ranks among the U.S.'s most significant international triumphs alongside Olympic golds in 1980 and 1960 (which also counted as world titles) and the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. Big Ten Hockey Plays a Role in USA's Gold Medal at IIHF Men's World Championship

 </a> • The 12th season of Big Ten Hockey concluded April 10 at the NCAA Frozen Four as Penn State fell to Boston University, 3-1, in a semifinal game held at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Mo. The Nittany Lions were the fifth different Big Ten team to reach the Frozen Four since 2018. • The Big Ten sent four teams to the 2025 NCAA Tournament. Michigan State earned the conference’s automatic berth while Minnesota, Ohio State and Penn State received at-large berths into the 16-team field. For the fourth-straight year, a Big Ten school advanced to the Frozen Four. During the regular season, the Big Ten compiled the best nonconference record in the country with a 53-20-5 mark (.712), a distinction the conference achieved for the fourth-consecutive season. • Michigan State junior forward Isaac Howard captured the 45th Hobey Baker Memorial Award as the top player in college hockey. Howard compiled 26 goals and 26 assists for 52 points in 37 games. He became the third Spartan and the 12th player from a Big Ten institution to win the Hobey. Three of the last five Hobey recipients have come from the Big Ten. • The Hobey Baker Award presentation highlighted the “Friday Night at the Frozen Four” awards ceremony held April 11 at the Stifel Theatre in St. Louis. Michigan graduate defenseman Jacob Truscott received the Derek Hines Unsung Hero Award, becoming the fourth Big Ten player to receive that honor. MSU also accomplished a first by securing the Big Ten Double in back-to-back seasons. Michigan State and Minnesota were crowned co-champions during the regular season, marking the first time that had occurred since Big Ten Hockey began in 2013-14. Minnesota led the conference with 18 Academic All-Big Ten selections. • The Big Ten had five teams finish in the Top 20 in the final USCHO.com and USA Today/The Rink Live polls. Earning spots were No. 5/5 Penn State, No. 6/6 Michigan State, No. 9/8 Minnesota, No. 11/12 Ohio State and No. 17/17 Michigan. • A total of 93 former Big Ten players have appeared in the National Hockey League in 2024-25, including five recent signees who played in the Big Ten this season: Karsen Dorwart (MSU/Philadelphia), Oliver Moore (MINN/Chicago), Sam Rinzel (MINN/Chicago), Jimmy Snuggerud (MINN/St. Louis), and Matthew Wood (MINN/Nashville). The Big Ten was home to 54 NHL Draft picks and on the international stage, six Big Ten players and an assistant coach helped the U.S. National Junior Team defend its gold medal at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship. • In NCAA rankings, Michigan State posted the second-best winning percentage (.757) while Minnesota ranked third in scoring offense (3.85), Penn State third in short-handed goals (8) and Wisconsin third in faceoff win percentage (.545). Individually, Isaac Howard led the country in points per game (1.41), Michigan’s Garrett Schifsky ranked second in short-handed goals (3) and Penn State’s Aiden Fink stood third in points per game (1.33). • Big Ten teams played before large crowds with five schools ranked among the Top 10 in NCAA attendance. The Big Ten produced the four-highest attended games in the NCAA, with three games at the Frozen Confines: Big Ten Hockey Series drawing more than 24,000 fans. Michigan and Michigan State also attracted 19,515 spectators for the “Duel in the D” at Little Caesars Arena, along with a viewing audience of 159,000 on the Big Ten Network. Penn State’s Frozen Four game against Boston University on ESPN2 averaged 253,000 viewers.</div>

 </a> ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Junior forward Isaac Howard of Michigan State has been named the 45th recipient of the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, given to the top player in college hockey. Howard was recognized at the Hobey Baker Award ceremony, held Friday at the Stifel Theatre. Howard leads the NCAA in scoring, averaging 1.41 points per game. The Tamp Bay Lightning draft pick scored 26 goals — tied for third-most in the country — and totaled 26 assists for 52 points in 37 games. He recorded four game-winning goals, including the double overtime game-winner in the Big Ten Tournament Championship Game. The Hudson, Wis., native was named 2025 Big Ten Player of the Year, chosen to the All-Big Ten First Team and tabbed an AHCA/CCM West First Team All-American. Howard becomes the third Spartan to win the Hobey, joining Ryan Miller (2021) and Kip Miller (1990). He is the third Big Ten player in five seasons to receive the Hobey and the 12th player from a Big Ten institution bestowed the honor.</div>

LOUIS, Mo. — Seven Big Ten Players achieved national recognition at the "Friday Night at the Frozen Four" awards ceremony, held in conjunction with the Hobey Baker Memorial Award presentation held at the Stifel Theatre. Graduate defenseman Jacob Truscott of Michigan received the Derek Hines Unsung Hero Award, presented by the Hockey Commissioners Association. A two-year captain, Truscott has been involved with Team Impact, made visits to Mott Children’s Hospital, volunteered with Ele’s Place 5K Run and spent time with local nonprofits that have visited Yost Ice Arena. This season he contributed three goals and 13 assists in 36 games. The Academic All-Big Ten selection graduated with a degree in Applied Exercise Science and is pursuing a graduate certificate in Real Estate Development. Truscott becomes the fourth Big Ten player to win the Hines, joining Ohio State’s Brendon Kearney (2019), Wisconsin’s Aidan Cavalini (2017) and Penn State’s P.J. Musico (2015). The announcement of the AHCA/CCM All-American teams found six Big Ten players honored. Sophomore goaltender Trey Augustine and junior forward Isaac Howard of Michigan State, along with Minnesota sophomore defenseman Sam Rinzel, were named to the West First Team while Michigan State junior defenseman Matt Basgall, Minnesota junior forward Jimmy Snuggerud and Penn State sophomore forward Aiden Fink were chosen to the West Second Team.</div>

LOUIS, Mo. — Penn State’s historic hockey season came to an end Thursday evening with a 3-1 loss to Boston University at the NCAA Frozen Four Semifinals held at the Enterprise Center. No. 12/5-ranked Penn State (22-14-4) trailed 2-0 after two periods before Nicholas DeGraves scored 2:15 into the third period to make it a one-goal game. No. 8/3-ranked Boston U. (24-13-2) scored on an empty net in the closing minute to seal the win. Penn State’s appearance marked the fourth-straight year a Big Ten team had advanced to the Frozen Four.</div>
