A little more than a year later, on August 4, 2023, the COP/C voted unanimously once more to admit the University of Oregon and the University of Washington, with all four schools joining the Conference on August 2, 2024.Oregon, UCLA, USC and Washington are all members of the Association of American Universities, an organization of American research institutions devoted to maintaining a strong system of academic research and education. Today, they also become members of the Big Ten Academic Alliance, where Big Ten institutions lead the nation with more than 75,000 instructional staff, 810,000 students, $17.4 billion in annual research expenditures, and 145 million library volumes, representing 25 percent of all print titles in North America. Ten from Big Ten Selected for Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-America Teams

ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Big Ten Conference is celebrating its 110th class of recipients who earned the Big Ten Medal of Honor from their respective institutions during the 2023-24 academic year. Established in 1915, the Big Ten Medal of Honor is the conference’s most prestigious award. It was the first award in intercollegiate athletics to demonstrate support for the educational emphasis placed on athletics. The Big Ten Medal of Honor is awarded to one male and one female student-athlete from the graduating class of each member institution who has demonstrated excellence on and off the field throughout their collegiate career. This year’s class comprised student-athletes from 17 sports. Big Ten schools currently feature more than 9,800 student-athletes, but only 28 earn the award on an annual basis. Since the Big Ten Medal of Honor was first presented more than a century ago, just over 1,650 student-athletes have earned this unique distinction. Those names are on display at the Big Ten Office in Rosemont. Iowa, Illinois and Ohio State Take Home Outdoor Track & Field Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced the 2024 Big Ten Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field postseason individual award recipients on Thursday, as selected by the conference’s head coaches.Penn State’s Cheickna Traore was named Men’s Track Athlete of the Year, while Nebraska’s Till Steinforth was voted for Field Athlete of the Year and Ohio State’s Braxton Brann was named Freshman of the Year.Penn State’s Hayley Kitching was selected as the Women’s Track Athlete of the Year, while Rutgers’ Chloe Timberg was selected as the Field Athlete of the Year and Minnesota’s Anthonett Nabwe was named Freshman of the Year.Traore claimed first-team All-America in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash at the 2024 NCAA Division l Indoor Track and Field Championships and was named the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Championships earlier this month. Steinforth placed seventh in the long jump (7.874 meters) and third in the heptathlon (6140) at the NCAA meet and earned two first-team All-America citation. Brann earned the Freshman of the Year title after strong performances in the Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships, where he placed second in the 200 meter (20.69) and 60 meter hurdles (7.71).Kitching claimed first-team All-America honors with a fourth place finish in the 800 meter run (2:02.16) at the NCAA Indoor Championships along with winning the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Championships weeks prior. Timberg earned a third place finish at the NCAA championships in the pole vault (4.45 meters) to earn a first-team All-America title as well as winning the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Championships award. The Big Ten Conference announced the 2024 Big Ten Men’s &amp; Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships award winners on Thursday, as selected by the conference’s head coaches. The championship meet was held last weekend at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.Penn State’s Cheickna Traore earned Men’s Track Athlete of the Championships accolades, while Illinois’ Aiden Ouimet was selected as Field Athlete of the Championships and Badgers’ head coach Mick Byrne was named Big Ten Coach of the Year.Penn State’s Hayley Kitching won Women’s Track Athlete of the Championships, while Rutgers’ Chloe Timberg was selected as Field Athlete of the Championships and Illinois’ head coach Petros Kyprianou was tabbed as Big Ten Coach of the Year.Traore received his first championship award after successfully winning the 60 and 200 meter races with new Big Ten Indoor Championship record times of 6.54 and 20.44, respectively, and helped the 4x400 relay team to a gold medal finish (3:06.36). Ouimet claimed the heptathlon title with a new conference indoor record of 6,120 points. He is the only Illini in Big Ten history to take home the award. Byrne earned his third coach of the year accolade after guiding the Badgers to their 2024 title.Kitching claimed the first championship honor of her career after taking home first-place finishes in the 600 meter (1:26.97) and 800 meter (2:04.08). Timberg took home the top field laurels after placing first and beating her own Big Ten Indoor Championship record in the pole vault (4.55m). Kyprianou garnered his first coach of the year honor after leading the Illini to their first title since 2013.The Big Ten Conference office recognizes one student-athlete from each team as Sportsmanship Award Honorees. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the student-athletes must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. Big Ten Announces 2024 Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships Honors

The Wisconsin Men’s Indoor Track &amp; Field team won the 2024 Big Ten Men’s Indoor Track &amp; Field Championships on Saturday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. This is head coach Mick Byrne’s second indoor championship with the Badgers.Nebraska was this year’s runner-up with 118 points, while Penn State finished third with 88 points. Ohio State (80.33 points) and Indiana (61.33 points) rounded out the top five.The Badgers took home five individual Big Ten titles, as Jackson Sharp won the 3,000-meter with a new Big Ten Indoor Championship record time of 7:46.42 and won the 5,000-meter (3:56.28). The Badgers DMR relay team (Nibbelink, Harris, Hassan, Spencer) won with a time of 9:43.95 while Adam Spencer won the mile with a time of 4:05.90 and Giovanni Wearing won the 60-meter hurdles (7.69).The Big Ten Track Athlete of the Championships, Field Athlete of the Championships, Coach of the Year and Sportsmanship Award honorees will be announced on Tuesday (Feb. 27).
